I"d say back to basics with the dummy for a start, give her a refresher course
-
I suspect that this young man does not realise the folly of his ways and maybe needs the law explaining to him to prevent him getting into trouble in the future. And well done young chap your dog did you proud lol

Out of this game- complete heartache

Slightly different BUT my old dog is 14 and not so clever bless him and I know the time is fast approaching when I will have to make THAT decision something I"ve had to do too many times, my point is that no matter what, when or how we lose our companions it is NEVER easy. I have two pups coming on BUT they will not replace my old lad and he"ll never be forgotten but life will go on and these youngsters will take me forward and to some extent soften the blow/guilt -
Of pedigree unknown to quote mr Drabble

http://www.mikeswhippets.com/ There are plenty of other good whippets out there though mate
-
Shouldn"t be a problem

Maybe a rabbit skin dummy would do the trick!!!

Without knowing what he put his head into all together can only guess that it could be nettles and what you saw was an allergic reaction, if this was the case I would have given him a piriton tablet. With regard to possible future injuries I"m afraid that this goes with the territory and a chance we take every time we take our dogs out whether we"re working them or just out for a walk. Also sounds as though you have issues with his retrieve i"d suggest you go back to basics and do some work with a dummy.

Mine where out doing a bit of ferreting at 18 weeks mate, gives them a good start and they soon start to pick it up,always like to start mine early especially with the ferreting
-
Do you ferret at all mate,if so you"ll be able to get him out doing a bit of that with him and get him learning his trade.

Let them think what they like BUT those of us who keep these little dogs will go on enjoying them and Know what they are capable of it"s just a shame that keepers of other breeds feel the need to comment when most have no experience of them but just go on hear say, rumour and myth and then some just like to sit at there keyboards and try and stir the shit making inane comments In the past I"ve run saluki types, collie hybrids and even a bull cross and know something of there strengths and weaknesses but nowadays I enjoy my whippets and get great pleasure from these fiery little dogs who general

The whippet breed standard Size Desirable height: dogs: 47-51 cms (181/2-20 ins); bitches: 44-47 cms (171/2-181/2 ins). Mine are between 17.5" and 19" but of course being on the small size are incapable of working

Can"t understand what so many of us see in these little shivering, thin coated, no stamina little dogs lol
-
Yep that sounds about right, hope you have a good 1st season with him/her

Nice one mate, its good to get the pups started early I believe they learn well that way, how old is it
-
lol I run 3 whippets all around the 18" mark Do you ever manage to catch them................................................ Nice one
-
Wont do him any harm to hold a few in the nets
-
Thanks for your replies lads in years past I"ve run saluki crosses and collie crosses, the saluki crosses where run mainly on long ears on the fens, cambridge etc but I did also lamp them and found them pretty decent all round whatever there reputation, my collie crosses were generally used all round and covered most of what I wanted to do and where even handy round a dig BUT the little whippets suit me now and have plenty of fire in their bellies also I find that you tend to be welcomed in places where you most certainly wouldn"t if you turned up with a lurcher. The knockers don"t worry me it

lol I run 3 whippets all around the 18" mark
