I presume she hasn't had pups before. So the pups sucking will bring her milk down and then she'll look like Dolly Parton.

Thuggy ... cant you read fatty get the name right ITS TUGGY PRICK.. Sorry Tuggy Prick, And I prefare the term "big boned" to "fatty". LMAO.

The way it should be. oh give it a rest , me mates working over there and fancied seeing terriers over , there , no fooking show has or will do any harm to any working terriers , so get off your high horse neil , and to the irish lads who are going to the midland see you round the terrier ring , ill have the terriers with pink colour leads and matching boots if its wet, I agree 100% Blackntan, Shows are a day out. But the fact that 99.9% of the boys over here work their dogs I'd like to think that there wouldn't be too many terriers fit to win a rosette September to Feburary. Simple as

Just wondering what you want them for Alirat?

size of a working terrier
neil cooney replied to night_hunter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
A small terrier used correctly in the right place is worth it's weight in gold. -
Dev how long are the adopted pups on the foster bitch? If she's just finished a litter her milk might be drying up. I would get the milk supplement and give it to the pups but I'd leave them on the foster bitch as they might bring her milk back down. I hand reared a litter years ago and although I did my part 100% they were not as good as a naturally reared litter.

Thuggy my comments regarding keeping our house in order are always aimed at anyone who brings hunting into direpute. My remarks to Top Terriermans answer meant that IMO he could have worded it better and not mentioned fighting. Also I have no problem whatsoever in a novice asking questions. I do however think that the inter-net is not the place to learn terrier work. I made a compliment on another topic to Smashers pictures of a dig and his JRT Smasher. I find nothing wrong with a picture of a hole with someone digging or of a terrier being held. That is, after all ,what we do. However whe

It's a completey different scenario over there Irish Pup. A lot of their game is raised to be shot (I suppose a bit like our beef) and if they weren't raised like this would be exctinct in many areas. It costs 1000s to shoot trophys and the money goes back into poacher patrols, education and the buying of game of game farms. I too don't agree with shooting an animal so I can have it's head on my wall but even some of the anti's are starting to agree that without the big ego's there'd be no animals to hunt. I used to butcher venison for a wealthy man over here who used to go big game hunting

If there's a risk of infection use penicillan, especially with animal bites. What's more important than the brand is that you get sub cutaneous and not intra muscular. Two and a half CL is what I give a terrier and if after a day or two he needs another I give one and a half. This mightn't be correct but it's what I've always done.

would someone kindly enlighten the yank?

There was a lovely programme a few years back, I think it was called "The old man of Coniston". It was about an old countryman from the lakes who worked all his life in the quarries. He demonstrated the Otter board and caught some Char for the camera. Very good. Anyone remember it? -
I've had the honour of digging to Smasher. As old as he is I'm sure he was only warming up as the boys reached him.

A bit of slug on slug action!
neil cooney replied to Malt's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
Since learning about lung worm I have a dislike for slugs. But am I right in saying that the slug with the green camo colour is wholly canabalistic? Mind you, I say I hate slugs but two of my favourite animals , the badger and the hedgehog, seem to be thriving because of our wet Summers and plenty of slugs. -
The flesh alone of a rabbit is virtualy fat free and supposedly 100% protein. As a result eating only rabbit means your getting no fat, carbs or trace elements. This is what I'm told, not sure if it's true. Plummer said once that trappers in the Rockies were known to starve to death eating only rabbit. But that was Plummer.

Oldnog your heading says it all. "The Art" of backfilling. Backfilling is as important as any other aspect of terrier work. Thats why some of the places we try are still there 20+ years after we first tried them.

Making up lies is one thing but close ups of bottom jaws, lurchers arses sticking up out of a dig and video footage of terriers/lurchers/strongdogs on top is all hard evidence. But as I've said before the pretenders have nothing to loose. Just look at some of the above posts agreeing that we should say what we want ,when we want. These same lads never contribute good posts. Last week there were fools putting up pictures of foxes (cubs) blasted apart with high powered rifles on the shooting forums. I got the immpression these same fools were new to the game. The fact is lads that those tha

hows things well a bayer is a terrier that holds the game in the pocket by barking at it dosent get bit much. a mixer holds the game in the pocket by barking and fighting with the game gets a fair few bites.a hard dog to me is a dog that meets the game and locks on and is mute.a drawing dog pulls the game from the pocket at the end of a dig hope this helps The anti's will be rubbing their hands with that reply. why Why ???? First of all terrier work is hunting, not a fighting sport. A lot of you will find it hard to believe but the only type of terrier that can legally be worke

I'm no chef but as for cooking in the field the only way of the top of my head is to wrap a young seasoned rabbit with some herbs and onion in tin foil and to put in a fire thats died down or beside a good fire. I suppose a stew is possible in the field as well. But I'm sure there's folk on here that have better advice than me. At home a curry is nice. Lovely in fact. But what's great to see is a novice like yourself with a good interest in useing what he shoots/kills. Enjoy.

WHAT PERMITS DAY TICKETS ARE REQUIRED TO FISH THE INNY. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HAVE A GO FISHING FOR CHUB THERE IF IT IS POSSIBLE I'm not sure Adam. We've always just worked away on the coarse fishing. Nobody says anything. But have a look at the angling websites just to make sure. I have fished for chub yet but used to fish it for good bream and hybrids. But nowadays I fish closer to home for bigger river bream and hybrids. Unfortunately no chub though.
-
The river Inny's in Westmeath. English anglers put chub in that they brought over as pike bait. As far as I know the fisheries board is electro fishing the chub.
-
Oh but Adam, we now have chub in the Inny. Personally I think the Grayling and Zander would have too much of an impact on our native fauna. But Barbel ? I can't see where they would get in trouble.

Exremely Conditioned Pitbull
neil cooney replied to Little Butch's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
IMO there are three different type of people that own A.P.B.T.s. Scumbags who need a status symbol. Dogfighters. Pet owners who have a genuine interest in the breed, the history, the charactor and the well being of the breed. To me the dog in the picture might be a pet. Believe it or not an athelete like the Pit Bull could look like that with good grub and good exercise. I know pet owners who's bulldogs look like that all the time. -
A cracker. I remember there was a man around Ballymun in Dublin who had Diddy Coys about that size. Now, to work a Wheaten that size (in the proper manner) is a real test.
