  1. Nice pictures. I used to go to the Waterloo Cup myself. I could never understand why some idiots cheered when a hare was killed. If you did that at an Irish meet you'd be lynched, and we don't have 100 anti's standing watching and listening. I did a job two years ago on a sewage works in North Co. Louth that had a resident population of sixteen hares. One of the plant workers had recently filmed a doe giving birth to four youngsters. How lucky was he?
  2. I've used pit bulls for hunting on top and they can be handy. I'm not talking about at the end but bushing, ratting and haybales and general non serious fun. They can have nose, brains and drive. They also suffer from the cold and as we all know bad with other dogs. Although I have had pit bulls that were only bad with other pit bulls. But IMO the APBT is way to highly strung as a cross for a working terrier. I couldn't see what it could add that a well thought out cross with another terrier or at least a good staff wouldn't add. JMHO. I no longer keep bull breeds.
  3. Not many people know this but on the infamous documentry by GCH when you see the fox chained and pegged and then all dogs loosed ,it was that useless piece of #### GCH that actually did that. It made better veiwing. LOL the scum bag eventually got sacked by Channel 4 when they discovered he had a conviction for armed robbery. Sadly though that programme was the start of a few badger baiting programs and terrier work suffered greatly. But that was the anti's doing all the work then. Now it's the so called terrier men who give all the anti's the ammunition they need. JMHO.
  4. Being a member of a coursing club we spend a lot of time checking on and counting hares. I also help another club with their netting and have restocked places. They really are fantastic animals and I hate to see them abused. I've seen them go to ground in front of greyhounds and even seen them jump in a river whilst being coursed and then stay under water for a few seconds 'till the greyhounds passed. But my favourite bit of behaviour witnessed is on a farm near me. I exercise my terriers in this place and I have seen the hares spot the terriers (but not me) and run up to them as if looking
  5. Dug a brace at a foot deep in an earth near Dunshaughlin, Co.Meath many years ago. The amazing thing about this was that the earth was in a gate way that tractors used every day. How the occupants were never squashed I'll never know. Where we dug was in the wheel rut too.
  6. Spiff I'm not even going to answer that question. I've heard that saying a thousand time. But never by a decent terrierman.
  7. Graham Carter Hall made a couple of digging videos in the early 90s that had a big impact on the terrier world.
  8. hit the nail on the head but a terrier is only 100% till its next dig exactly mate a terrier is only as good as its last dig ,, Cheers Sniper "a terrier is only as good as it's last dig". If ever there was a saying used by fools, that's it.
  9. "Will make excellent worker". Could you ask the person who said that about an eight month old pup what horse will win next years Grand National ? They clearly can see the future.
  10. Lot of lads riseing to the bait. But Lab Lad I hope your signature is in jest.
  11. Lambs kidneys, any liver fried in seasoned flour and hearts, lovely. I always said it, if offal looked like steak it would be 10 times the price. Delicious.
  12. I probably read Brendan Chase several times and know my 11 year old daughter has just finished and is reading Manka the sky gypsy. Anyone ever read that? Also by BB. A must for anyone with an interest in wild fowling.
  13. Thanks for the replys lads. The wheat has been holding them in the few days I've been feeding and it looks like some of our neighbours birds have been in to visit too.
  14. No doubt about it. He's an opportunist. Lambs too. Ground nesting birds and lets face it, many of our ground nesters are getting rare. They haven't got a mouth full of canines for ripping through earthworms.
  15. Got it too. There used to be a great one on Pat Patricks web site if anyone can put that one up.
  16. I don't buy or sell pups, never have. But I believe the price for Boxers, Poodles etc. can be 500+. Does that not mean our pups should be 5000+ LOL. The fact is most people who breed haven't room for the entire litter so some have to be sold. This is different to churning out pups for money or puppy farming if you like. It's a no win situation. If you sell pups cheap the punter feels they're cheap because they're rubbish. Too dear and your ripping him off. Also the man who wont pay for any pup often wont appreciate them anyway. If the prices go beyond the working mans pocket then only the g
  17. "There are plenty of good working lines out there." Is there ?
  18. Jealous ????? Countries that can still hunt badgers can because they kept their act clean. Because of the cowboys we can't.
  19. Aye and not a feather out of place. Nice to see a Staff with a soft mouth.
  20. If the intention is to run on the litter yourself, try them and see how they go you are perfectly entitled to breed your terriers any way you please. If the intention is to keep a pup and advertise the rest of the litter as "both parents working" then no, don't breed them.
  21. I hate to say it but I'm not a lover of rabbit anymore. Growing up we had rabbit 3 or 4 times a week. Stew, pie, curry (real curry not the stuff out of a jar) and grazers fried on the pan. We never wasted it. In fact the ferrets only ever get the heads and offal. Feeding rabbits to dogs is something I've only done in recent years. But looking at all that lovely lean meat in Rolfes picture I think some rabbit ill be on this weeks menu. MMMMMM.
  22. Well done JD. The one species I wish we had over here.
  23. Well done. Looks like very sandy soil. Makes me nervous,LOL.
  24. I'm just of the phone to a digging man who knew nothing of the 2 recent terrier thefts. Yesterday knackers drove in to his yard and asked had he lurchers or terriers for sale. He told them to get the #### out of his yard before he got his gun. They drove across the road to another dog man who gave them even less of a welcome. They were seen driving by an hour later. 05 D, white Nissan Almera. Westmeath area.
