Nice pics Source, no messing around. Looks like they can mark too.

Unfortunately at the moment there's a very, very anti terrierwork move on by the PSNI. It looks like they have been briefed and believe the lies that certain members of the USPCA have told them. One terrierman who asked them to stop harassing him even though they know he only hunts fox was told that they'd leave him alone when he gave up terrierwork altogether as they know that terriermen kill terriers and foxes by hitting them over the head with shovels. No mention of badgers. Are the I.W.T.F. on the case ? It's clear harassment of those who carry out a lawful pursuit .

Robot terriers ???????

I'm pretty sure that kid is real and belongs to my neighbour.

Snipe in my opinion is tastier than pheasant and as nice as duck so I'd have taken the snipe. I clean mine out the same as any bird, wrap them in tin foil with some seasoning and butter and do them in the oven for 15 minutes or whatever it takes to cook them. The old recipes will tell you to leave the innards in them while cooking but as an ol' timer said to me one time those recipes were written when there was no pollution in our streams and ditches. Nor do I leave the heads on them. I like my food to look like food and not an animal that died in a fire.

Here in Ireland the farmers have been known to take the law into their own hands and that involves a slurry tanker, mind you, it's probably a quicker death than the legal method which is professional snaring. This means maybe leaving a badger in a snare for 2 or 3 days. This will be denied but it's the truth. As for an open season on the badger ? There was once and the cowboys ruined that for everyone. JMHO but countries with a badger problem should look to France for the methods and solutions. But that's never going to happen either.

LOL, very good.

It's an Ortovox collar and it was my own fault. I didn't check the battery and it failed us. I put a new battery in the collar for this mornings hunt and no problem.

LOL, I can get away with nothing. Yes, the bar was in the vehicle in case of back up and just as well too. But I stand by what I've said before about bars. They're handy but they are the most over used piece of kit. I hope this means i still have a bit of street cred, LOL.
-
No back peddling Jigsaw. Just so happens that there was a bar in the vehicle from the good ol' days, OH, and didn't I mention it was windy, that's why we needed the bar ,LOL, we couldn't hear him. Seriously though, Liam the reason we trenched on was because the terrier killed the fox and moved on by the time we reached him. He'd gone 8 or 9 foot further on and killed again. Hence all the trenching. It was a big place and well able to take it. I hope I don't need to use the wretched thing for another 4 or 5 seasons (I mean the bar not the terrier ).
-
Well done Danny, a happy new year to you.

Was very glad we had a bar in the jeep on Wednesday. Collar failed as soon as the terrier entered resulting in a walk back for a bar , ears to the ground, a 6 foot deep by 15 foot long trench and 3 hours later a successful conclusion that I'm sure would have resulted in a lost terrier otherwise. Can't understand why anyone would bad mouth the bar, LOL.

Done, but IMO is a shame to be fighting for repeal by saying that legitimate fieldsports folk are breaking the law. It's like admitting to breaking the law when there's actually no-one doing that. There's many more ways to argue for repeal. Also in that dialogue there's inaccuracies. So IMO if the anti's win that poll, no big deal.

Bolting Foxes/hard Terriers
neil cooney replied to Dan Davies's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
There's a few breeds of reliable working terriers left to do the job. You don't train a terrier to work, they do it because they love it and are bred for it (for centuries) . The terrier man just has to enter them nice and sensibly. -
Strong Stuff for the collars but a chain lead every time with a pin at the end. Once a terrier learns to bite through a lead he'll do it again and again.

Just goes to show you the stupidity of the Hunting Act when the Mink got some sort of protection. This alone, proves that Blair wanted to target those who followed hounds.

Don't rip up the floor as that will have your level for drainage and just replace the sides and roof with the flags that will probably be beside the ruined earth. Then cover it well. Don't over use it and tell no-one it's there.

Are Stolen Dogs Ever Recovered ?
neil cooney replied to Kemperz21's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
That's a good point you've made Gin about your friends dog being a one man dog. Unfortunately some dogs get passed around from messer to messer so often that the poor animal doesn't know who his owner is. When the lowlifes then jump your wall the dog will go with them with no resistance. If, however, the dog has only ever been handled by one person it would be harder to take. I know in my case that my dogs would take the hand off a stranger who grabbed them. In a lot of cases of dog theft the thief has already been on your yard so think about the company you keep. Also, as long as there's -
Covered a lot of good land today including floods, bog and wet ditches and not a single snipe or woodcock. Pheasant and pigeon saved the day.
-
Fucks sake Fatman, I'm just after reading that and don't feel like having my breakfast now.
-
I've noticed it bad for snipe so bad this year. They're one bird, hit or miss, that it's always good to see a few. Might get a chance at one this morning though.
-
Apart from the lack of a terrier , which Fatman pointed out, could I suggest a fair maiden to rub my tired back and shoulders like they did in the middle ages.
-
Good man Fatman, I could picture Jigsaw loading the vehicle with all the kit and then arriving at the farm to hunt and saying "where's the dog", LOL.
-
I have 4 of them and like you there's always one in the van. And yes, I used them, plenty. That's how I know when to use one and when not to use one. True, before the locator they were an essential tool, like I said before, when a lad had a good bar he wouldn't let it out of his sight and there was many a row when one lad bent another lads bar, LOL. One more word about the locators, the "new" avalanche rescue systems we're using now have been around for well over 20 years. Think of all the terriers that could have been saved in those years.
-
I agree Jigsaw, bars and tongs (especially in leopard skin, LOL) are useful but in the wrong hands both are dangerous. I've said it before and I'll say it again about bars. They are the most over used piece of kit. IMO it's no coincidence that the best men I've ever seen to work terriers didn't carry bars.
