  1. You must not have many dogs to feed Chris or maybe your wealthy, but those prices are dear. But to be honest nowadays it's getting harder and harder to get flesh to feed to dogs. Try your local hunt kennels, you might find they're cheaper.
  2. Having spent many years working on building sites none of those clips surprise me, LOL.
  3. When I get in from hunting I get all the muck off them by scrubbing them in a bucket of water then let them dry naturally ie. not beside a fire or radiator and when they're dry just give them a good polishing . I reckon if you keep enough polish on leather it's as good as dubbin. But I do give them a coating of dubbin now and again. Fell boots are not water proof so when I used to dig 5 or 6 days a week I used to have 2 pairs, 1 pair was at home drying while I was out.
  4. That's very alarming. Is it widely know about the spraying ? We used to hunt rats on a land fill and the foxes would line up waiting for us to go so they could start feeding. Also it was the most Barn Owls I've ever seen in the one place at the one time. 3 or 4 owls was the norm. Our best night was 169 rats but we'd see maybe 10,000 rats each night. That dump was ruined for ratting when they started covering the waste every day with bulldozers. Then I remember 10 or 12 years ago every body was complaining about the amount of flies (especially the townies after moving out) and a fellow from th
  5. Most game farmers nowadays seem to be using them or at least a cross. They're great mothers so you can't blame them. We bought cocks and hens last year and I told the seller I didn't want MB cocks so he didn't give us any but all the hens were MBs or crosses. Which means any wild birds born on our land will be wandering little b*****ds, LOL.
  6. Yeh, your just stocking your neighbors shoot for them. And you can't win nowadays because most hens are Michigan Blueback crosses because they're a breeders dream.
  7. I'd well believe it and the others weren't shot. They just f****d off, LOL.
  8. longer tail feathers, those over 12 months old are truly wild Bloody Michigan Bluebacks, I hate them.
  9. Good post Gonetoearth, your right. Shows are good for the terrier game in that they promote good PR when done properly. I read somewhere recently "the only threat to the working terrier is the show ring". Great news that, the antis, the peddlers, the liars and the dog thief must all be gone so. Thirty years ago folk were moaning about the show men and here we are thirty years later with shows bigger than ever and IMO a standard of terrier better than ever (in the field, under the sod I mean). What's wrong with the show game is when someone doing well in the ring says their terriers are als
  10. Stories like this are what the anti's pray every night for. Also with the choice of words used by the owner of the unfortunate dog I'd say they were anti hunting before the accident. Also without a doubt you can be sure that an apology and some sort of compensation was offered.
  11. Any man would turn grey with you's boys about him, LOL.
  12. One hour can make the difference in scent , let alone a day. Good to see Oliver there keeping 'em going.
  13. "To give someone a proper kick in the bollox you have to be close to them."
  14. Where were you when you wrote the above sentence ?
  15. Can't help with the name of the prints but I know the top one is not Rouges Gallery. Similar print but not that one. The dogs in Rouges Gallery belonged to a well known coursing man, a slipper in fact.
  16. Noses down, sterns up, they're getting there. Best of luck with them.
  17. Oldnog, I'm surprised at you breaking one of the main rules of terrier work, always trust your terrier. If they say he's at home then he's at home. Still though, you might get another day out of that vixen, or her cubs maybe, LOL. I remember years ago telling two lads who were looking for foxes bolted for their lurchers to stay at the van while I ran over to a handy earth with a terrier. If they saw me waving they were to come. I ran over and bolted 3 foxes in a few seconds. When I got back to the van the lurcher boys wouldn't believe me.
  18. I put a thermometer in it's mouth, ask it to hold it under it's tongue for a few seconds. Then take it's temperature.
  19. Your right, the anti's have used that against us in the past. But, coarse fishing is all about catch and release and it's becoming more and more common for game anglers to practice catch and release. Hare coursing under rules is never about the kill but all about the chase. Hunting with hounds is most times about the hunt, pest control can be carried out if need be. In all these cases when the quarry is released the ending is that a fit, healthy animal be released or a old or sick animal be killed. Terrier work IMO apart from live trapping (and trapping is pest control, not hunting) is the
  20. It's illegal to hunt with sight hounds in France. That's all I know. Funny one that, as hunting with hounds (scent hounds) is very popular in France and when a hound is hunting and is close to it's quarry and can view it, it's known as coursing.
  21. They covered this on a episode of River Cottage and the Indian Game X Dorking got the vote as the tastiest chicken.
  22. What's very worrying up your neck of the woods Bolio is that a well know anti has advised the police that those that participate in lamping need cocaine to keep them going on a nights lamping. If the police are stupid enough to believe this bullshit they'll not only be stopping lads for trespass but searching them for drugs too. This well known anti knows how much time will be wasted by police but it will get plenty of lads stopped.
