  1. Well done Lee, you've done the easy part and got your foot in several doors, but, now the hard work starts to keep your permissions and farmers happy. Wait 'till you're getting the phone calls at eleven at night asking can you come in the morning, LOL.
  2. To be fair Wideboy I couldn't blame that buzzard for that free meal. Years ago I left half a dozen rabbits on a stump while lamping as I knew I'd be coming back that way. They were gone when I came back. Some fox thought it was Christmas.
  3. Yesterday morning I found some unusual fur beside my chicken pens and after looking at it for a few minutes it dawned on me it was the light fluff of a fox cub. The nearest litter is three fields away so this cub was doing some wandering. The corn is starting to get tall so cubs mightn't be underground at all now so they're getting independent. They'll still be relying on their parents at the moment but by August cubs could be hunting for themselves.
  4. Doesn't really matter what blend of coffee you use because the whiskey will kill a lot of the taste.
  5. It was around the early 90's over for the Waterloo Cup that a Newcastle man introduced me to Newky. At the end of the night he was stubbing his cigarette out on the bar beside the ashtray. He was that drunk he was seeing 2 ashtrays and missing the real one. Personally, I think I was more sober leaving the pub than when I went in. You could give Newky Brown Ale to a toddler.
  6. I've seen a pair over a housing estate recently Peter and I'd say they were less than 100 foot and didn't look to be riding the thermals.
  7. I still have a card that my daughter made for me when she was young, "Happy Farters day."
  8. Game is not reared here in Ireland on the scale it is in Britain, no where near even. Yet our Buzzards are thriving too. It's not unusual to see 3 or 4 on a mornings rough shooting. I've seen 12 together. It's illegal now to leave carcasses in a field and no farmer would risk the prosecution so carrion is non existent in the countryside. Rabbits are patchy and it's common to see buzzards where there are no rabbits. Our ground nesting birds and hares are no way near as common as they used to be and in the last few years I've noticed that hares are much more inclined to lie in covert much mor
  9. Nice pups Danny, best of luck with them.
  10. LOL, only on here could a discussion about slugs turn into a "my dogs better than yours" challenge. I can see your dogs are well kept and I do agree that the threat of lungworm is not as big as the pharmaceutical companies would have us believe but in 30 years I've only lost 2 dogs (touch wood) to sickness and one of them was to lungworm. My vet has also heard of 3 other cases. You keep putting down your lines of salt (seems a waste of salt if your not threatened by slugs) and I'll keep using a wormer that treats for lungworm. And if any novice needs any more advice I'll leave it up to you
  11. Number one I do not have shares in the salt mines I wish I had, The lad asked for advice I gave it Free of charge, It works first class, using road salt is extremely strong kills the snails no problems, do it 2 or3 times a year you wont see a slug, So your telling me that you put a line of salt on the ground around your kennels and this is effective against slugs for months at a time ? What advice would you give to someone who had a wall at the back of their kennels ? Do you put a line of salt up the wall ,over it and down the other side ? What if someone accidentally walked on the line o
  12. Good post Thrush. The only thing I'll say is that you must be lucky enough to only have good honest mates about you because the way some lads are churning out pups with false pedigrees over here there obviously a market out there.
  13. Personally I would have thought giving your dogs a tablet a few times a year would be easier than getting the salt out. In showery weather do you get the big bag of salt out between showers and go around the kennels laying a line of salt ? If it rains an hour later do you repeat the process ? Slugs love the wet warm weather so if it's raining at night do you get up between showers ? Does salt stick to walls ? What if you have a big kennels ? Does the person who came up with the idea for salt have shares in salt on the stock exchange ?
  14. If they're off good stock how come he and his friends were not keeping them among themselves, or does he charge his friends 500 for a pup? Maybe the bitch had 20 pups and some were surplus?
  15. It was beautiful and I wouldn't have seen it only I was driving at about 15 mph and spotted a flock of Chaffies. Couldn't believe it but I stopped and there he was. A friend said that one was sold for 200 last year.
  16. It pisses you off when you go out in the morning and you see the silver trail where the little slimebag has been the night before. You can try and keep them out of your kennels but when you let your dogs off for a run 9 times out of 10 they'll eat grass or some crap. My advice is to keep on top of your worming and use a wormer that covers lungworm. Some of the leading brands don't so make sure you check.
  17. So how do you pick workers from posers in the show ring ? Or would I get a quicker answer if I asked "What's the meaning of life ?" LOL. It's annoying when you see a well known showdog beating a well known working in the show ring but it's not the end of the world and see when a show gets a good reputation for attracting quality workers sooner or later the show folk will target that show as it becomes THEE show to win thus increasing the price of pups or studs and the cycle continues.
  18. The way the Pine Marten is being released willy nilly around the Irish countryside is proof that the Park and Wildlife haven't a clue. The reason he crossed a fence into your dogs is because they're not afraid of much.
  19. Has anyone any photos of a cinnamon Chaffinch ? I seen one in the wild yesterday and when I mentioned it to a mate who keeps a lot of birds he said he knows of one seen last year. How rare or common are they ?
  20. That's a load of rubbish. Why do you think a terrier is most under pressure at the end of a dig ? Anyone with a bit of skill would know the reason. Neil you give this man a hard time all the time If I see a post that I think is a load of rubbish I'll say so, that's my privilege If he post's a lot of shite that's his But, that statement that Stop End made is something that I've heard many lads say and it always pisses me off, not just because Stop End said it. A lot of lads do not realise the pressure that's on a terrier coming near the end of a dig and when they break through they s

  22. That colour has been around for a long time and it hasn't ruined the type yet. If you mean it will be ruined by the money men ? They've also been around for a long time and they haven't ruined the type yet either. As long as there's fools with wads there'll be money men.
