Any idea how he died ? or if infact he did die ?...................maybe my memory is playing tricks with me but im sure i remember someone telling me must of been 10 years ago now.
-
Welsh boy wasnt he ?......Yes he was a decent fighter better than me.....wasnt he from a big family of fighting brothers if i remember right...never swapped punches with him but met quite a few times at different gyms and shows............sad to hear of his death some time back i cant remember how he died but terrible waste could only of been in his late 30,s
-
Id be lying if i said i didnt enjoy the rough and tumble and testing yourself..................but back in them days it put food on the table and paid the rent simple as that.
-
Not sure about that mate i wasnt as good as the other lads remember, my memories were going home with busted nose and ribs every other week
-
Blimey i havent seen Horace for probably 20 years he was technically the best heavyweight in the gym he just never carried the weight.......Honeyghan was a very good fighter in every department he could do it all the excuses Don Curry made were terrible Lloyd mullered him and would of done on that day or any other everything just clicked for him..... his downfall was women think he had about 7 kids by as many different birds youd see him walking down the Walworth Rd with one on each arm and a couple trailing behind.........Kirkland Laings thing to wind everyone up was to spar with a big joint

That was my war face i didnt do smiling back then i was only 16 and too busy walking around growling at people to smile.....even for a camera......what a dick !!
-
Think yourself lucky.....a poxy tube strike looks like putting paid to my plans........looks like i,ll have to spend the day with the family

Don King wasnt Mclellens manager he promoted his fights his manager was the Davimos lot they was a massive company who managed a lot of top yank athletes i think all the Kronk fighters Hearns etc were all under their management, loads of baseball and basketball players as well.......infact for once Don King was a fairly innocent party in the Mclellen thing im sure i remember reading he helped out more than anyone else with his medical bills etc

Boxers get injured inside boxing rings....................the fact both these 2 men were comfortably ahead on points and within a few minutes of winning their fights indicates to me your talking bollocks...............or are you suggesting Mcllellend wasnt ready for Benn ................you dug a hole mate dont jump in headfirst !
-
Been a great thread this and very helpful to a newbie like me..............thanks and best of luck with the hobby
-
You have said some pretty stupid things on these threads........but this takes stupidity to a whole new level !!...............How about absolute will to win at all costs and the highest form of competetive desire.........................money and greed, what a ridiculous comment !
-
ah thats nice mate well done......you must have something going for you to of kept your woman for 30 years.........most of them are sick of me after 30 days
-
No its not who your thinking......to be honest i cant think why he was even in the picture he boxed for the Crown and Manor club....maybe that was before or after i forget which now.
-
The so called " superfights " of different eras with massive build ups often tend to be a bit of an anti climax.......thats why for me Hagler - Hearns has to go down as the best top level fight ive ever seen.......all the ones mentioned Pryor/Arguello.....Corrales/Castillo etc etc were great fights.........but for me Hagler/Hearns i couldnt believe what i was watching for an event that big..............................................................or maybe Ali/Frazier .....................
-
I wouldnt swear to it mate you might be right......Leonard just always seemed to find a way to win,Duran might of been just too physical for him......Mayweather is good at creating space and Duran would of been on him like a rash and stayed on him......Hearns was just so big at the weight..............I dont know its all ifs and buts isnt it Mayweather i think is on par with any welterweight in history......For me Ray Robinson was the best fighter who ever lived at any weight,he won over 100 fights and never lost at welterweight would he of beaten Mayweather who can really say its so hard comp
-
Of all time id say Dempsey - Firpo takes some beating.............in more recent times Hagler - Hearns just for the sheer magnitude of the event.......seen some great fights in small hall venues between little known fighters but i think you have to judge great fights on great events......ward - gatti were great fights but they wasnt title fights so not really big events.....id say Mexlads list is not far off.
-
Hoodwinking is not strong enough....its theft !......The rspca spend 5 million per year on prosecutions............when you donate to childrens charities you know your money is helping children...................when old Auntie Mabel puts her fiver in an rspca tin she thinks her money is helping animals not fighting crime !.......i,ll pay money to help any child but im not paying money to fight crime..............donate to the rspca and you dont get a choice.
-
30 years ago......in the Welterweight division......... Tommy Hearns.......Ray Leonard.......Roberto Duran........Wilfred Benitez.........Don Curry.......... I dont think he would of beat any of them......Curry maybe...........mouthwatering fights but im not convinced Mayweather would better them.
-
Oh it was real alright......Mark would probably get beheaded for it in todays times he referred to his skin colour which started it all off.........their fight was a few years before Bruno - Bugner though ive got an idea Kaylor might of been on the undercard.........................Kaylor - Christie was at Wembley Arena,.....no Kaylor never went to Repton he started at the army cadets believe it or not then went to Shell and onto Fitzroy Lodge if i remember right.
-
He,s not Socks no........think my daughter tried to steer clear of my sort ...........cracking lad though so doesnt matter.
-
Yes he did Paul .......Glen Murphy was his name....big boxing family his father Jimmy was a great man sadly passed on now well known from West Ham abc.
-
Hindsite is a far more powerful tool than the adrenalin and emotion of real time mate i couldnt bring myself to throw blame in any direction i love the sport too much to do that.......ive heard people blame the corners of both men,as well as the referees......................i try to look on the positive side and say they were 2 men of unquestionable fighting spirit who paid the price for how God made them..............as in any sport you have to learn from tragedies and take steps to prevent them in future and if protecting a man from himself is the only way to go then so be it. Would you bl

What i always liked about Frank was he set himself a goal and didnt stop until he reached it...............realistically there was no real reason why he should of reached that goal because he wasnt blessed with bundles of talent like some are........but his determination to succeed eventually got him the ultimate prize and he deserved it.
-
He fought Honeyghan for the European must of been 84 or 85.... in training for it they often turned up at the same gym Bobby Neil would often phone over to make sure the coast was clear ........Mittee was such a laid back sort of chap yet Honeyghan was the complete opposite he could start a fight in an empty room.

That was a couple of years before he did Scum then he turned into a right mincer ....................nah good boy Winnie still see him down the Hammers from time to time.
