Thanks CG he is more or less Saluki Grehound x Collie Greyhound he is a 26" dog which is to big for some people but he realy suits that kind of ground.
Dave.
Thanks Micky, rabbits are getting a bit thin on the ground even on the fell, so pleased with the bags of the last few weeks, no easy rabbits round hear.
Dave.
Was up on the moors with Pointer early yesterday, he picked my up at stupid Oclock with his Lurcher Tess and i had Paddy my Lurcher and my little Cocker x Hound Fudge.
Its a tough fast bit of ground and the scent wasnt that good but we were just looking for some good sport, and we found it.
Tess
Paddy
Tess hunting the Reeds
Fudge trying to get in on the action
End of day catch
(The pics arnt that good as it was just getting light).
10 in the bag, a good few hours sport.
The lurchers worked well and not much was missed.
And little fudge did ok
All the dogs mentioned on this thread would do a job for you, but it all depends what you want to flush the quarry to, ie Gun, Lurcher.
And how close you want the bushing dog to hunt to you, thats what will dictate the breed needed.
Dave.
Looks like a good day out .Interesting looking dogs a GWP cross I take it, and a powerful coloured brindle with lots of substance and chest.
You need a strong dog on that land, they took a few tumbles but it make the day all the better when they come home without a scratch.
Dave.
It was a good couple of hours mate, the scent was poor and the Lurchers had there work cut out but they hunted well and caught double figures.
I love hunting over mixed ground with a bit of thick cover, really enjoyed it mate.
Cheers
Dave.
thats a good breed to use with the terriers plus you can lamp them i would use it for a catch dog outside the bush very good but get a cockerorbeaglexterrier you will not go wrong when you start go with people who have bushing dogs for them to learn off good luck
I agree with Bigdan, you should keep the lurcher as the catch dog and use a smaller Terrier or Terrier x Hound / Cocker for the bushing dog, but each to there own.
Dave.
Scent, have you got any pics of the Springer x Beagles mate, which way do they through is it more hound.
i can see how this cross could be better bushing to lurchers and guns, could fancy a houndy looking 1 myself.
Dave.
Thanks Tyla, We Try to control them with the whistle and they are doing very well, It helps stop them from getting away from us and keeps them together.
There seems alot of interest in the Springer x Beagle, Anyone got any pics.
Dave.
We use 2 Border Lakelands, 1 Pure Border and a Cocker x Hound
They are all young but working well together and not much gets past them and the thicker the cover the better.
They will flush anything but there catch rate on rabbits is as many as the Lurchers.
