  1. if a dog bred for digging is letting a fox get by it. then its a failed digging dog. a cull. but if its bred for use as a terrier for bolting foxes then it is not . it has done its job and the fox has been shot. it may go against the grain for a lot of folk but i prefare the bolter. if i breed it its a good terrier if you bred it its a cull. its more about who owns it than it is about the dog. different standards i suppose
  2. most of them are mine. i keep popping in in case you have posted a pic.
  3. i like a good little bolting terrier. pure gold to me. i think that the best ones tend to be owned by folk that have only one thing in mind, and that is to get the job done as quickly and painlessly for both man and dog. and its more about the man than the dog in my opinion. firstly he wont go to over hard terriers for stock. he will need small vocal terriers he will then rear it with discipline insisting on full control of the animal . at all times. when entering it will be entered carefully in a manner that teaches the terrier its reward is the success of a fox hitting the net or being bolte
  4. How old is she now mate? The years seem to march on eh? One day you may get a good 'un.....LOL she was/is a good dog for me. she does exactly what i wanted . her only fault is she is on the big side. but i can live with that . ive always liked my dogs to be versitile as i cant keep to many. she is around nine.
  5. foxdropper thats the second time you have given this offer. hats off to you ive had three plummers in recent years one was not up to the task one was given to my son and the last one i keep for working allround. ferretting and the odd fox. she is well past it now and on the big side for most folk but could be dug to she was a very handy terrier for me and made me look good on some more than once so i dont own a plummer that is up to the task at the moment. so i'm out. however if you repeat this offer one more time for next season i have a very good prospect that will be getting started nex
  6. to the guys that get fed up with the plummer threads. fair comment. i get fed up with the same old. old nuttal new nuttal . and the ken gould threads and the middleton pish that has been done to death. . the thread is plummer terrier it clearly states it. . So why come on and moan about them being in this section, i still consider myself a russell man that has a couple of plummers they get a bad rep due to the fact they are good ratters. i think the reason they dont get as much earthwork is due to the owners more than the dogs . lets face it they have a good rep for ratting this in its self
  7. its just a pup. just keep putting em in front of it. wait till its up a bit before getting another terrier of any breed. once its doing its job in style . then get a pup and it will bring the next one on for you.
  8. http://www.pitmanplummerterriers.com/brimar.html . google
  9. posts like yours give balance to these threads. of course your right there are some plummers that are only usefull for backfill. but i have owned a few now and also worked good bad and indifferent russells and worked some coloured terriers the same. at the moment i have two plummers a russell and a crossbred plummer/russell. they are all much a much to be honest. only one of the plummers works to ground to any standard and even she is a little on the big side. i like to think i have a balanced opinion on these things and see things as they are not as i would like them to be. if you have had pl

  11. The real thruth went to the grave with the man but Russell, nuttal patterdale, fox terrier,Bull terrier and beagle were all used and i think he used one of his russell's over a beagle bitch first and the rest is .............. there are two additions of bull. this being the last breed to enter the genepool through the front door.

  16. its my shaky hand that lets me down when it comes too small birds I can never get them just the way I want them i,m the same. maybe you could use a faster shutter speed . or use a monopod or tripod. to cut down the camera shake. some good pics there thanks for sharing
  17. Cheers i have been offered one at a very good price. it is about half the pixels of what ive been using but i dont print anything bigger than A4 so cant see it being a problem. there is a flash unit and a battery pack with it so i think i will go for it i dont think it can make my pictures any worse . i think i am a little away from semi pro just yet but will keep your advice in mind. thanks for the reply. i will upload a pic or two from the D90 once i get it . cs

  19. we had had a couple of rangers now. cant fault em they are put through the mill with us and do everything asked
  20. breed standards are set by the breed clubs. these standards are open to interpretation. by the breeder. most breeders have a vested interest in certain lines within the breed . its common practice in these circles to pick and choose what judge you show your tyke under as you will have a better chance under some judges than others due to what linage your dog has.. these opinions often go as far back as the creation of the breed. this is happening as we write with the plummer terrier. some favour the pure some favour the bull outcross. and will breed for these points its happened with the r
