  1. A little thought struck me when posting in another topic. Most people would agree that 4" in nylon, because of the stretch, is acceptable? For spun poly and cotton based twine then 4.25 or 4.5" is desired because of the lack of stretch? The last few years I have been rabbiting in Pembrokeshire and been using a mixture of nets 4" 4z, 4.25" double stranded spun poly. Even though the nets catch well, there have been rabbits going through the nets also the size of the rabbits caught even in January are very small, full grown rabbits weighing just over two and a half pounds in weight. Even the
  2. It's sad really when the Lions only tour their country every 12 years you'd think the aussies would want to play them as much as possible. Thats without the money that the Lions generate for the host nations, it really is a bad show that they are robbing their own people of good competative games. TC
  3. It's all part of the ARU's plan. Give them easy games that do not test them, then hit them hard in the first test. Gats is even talking about full intensity training because the S15 sides are putting out inferior sides against them. TC
  4. Get the dog checked for lung worm. I thought one of mine had kennel cough but it was lung worm. Give it mibremax or advantage spot on, it won't do any harm and it may do a lot of good. TC
  5. Have to agree with that by breaking the line he allowed the try in the first gif to happen.
  6. The problem is Advanced has no competition so they can charge what they like. Most of the other sellers of nets bridport etc buy off Advanced. Advanced have the resourses to buy in bulk from Tiawan, the smaller firms do not. Minimum order from Tiawan is 200 sheets and even though the nets are relitivly cheap you have to factor in a lot of other costs. Shipping from Tiawan, import duty, Vat, agents fees, storage and transport costs from the docks to yourself. It all mounts up, so you have to buy a shed load to make it viable. Advanced buy the nylon nets as just part of a container/s of nets

  8. When I was a kid I was told to do this to stop a dog chasing sheep. So I tried it with a boxer that was a sheep worrier. I tied a dead lamb around it's neck and it ate it, and still chased sheep. TC
  9. The shape of the end pins has no bearing on how the pins work. As far as shape goes it is personal preferance. However, the length of the spike matters a great deal. It really is difficult to find a happy medium if you work different soil types. On sandy soil a 10 inch spike would not be out of place. But, a 10" spike would be worse than useless on heavy stoney clay soil as you would be lucky to get it a couple of inches into the ground. Long netting is more involved that it seems. In olden days they did not have this problem as people worked locally and made their tools to suit. TC

Nope not yet, touch wood I never will. I bet they made a mess of the net though? TC
  11. I did have one hang around the feeders in the winter but a rare sight these days here. Must be one of the prettiest fiches in this country. TC
  12. There are a few ways of looking at that. Farrel should not have been offside holding his jersey. He should not have punched Farrel, and Farrel should not have retaliated, he was lucky not to get a card also. It does show Farrels temprement though, suspect to say the least? TC
  13. That is a job well done It's a barsteward when the lines slip out of the selvedges but you done the right thing, bite the bullet and get on with it. There is absolutly nothing wrong with the way that net is set that will catch rabbits all day long. Great job. TC
  14. ? Have you had more than me to drink? TC
  15. To be honest I don't think you will beat that price. Whats the quality like? As there is nylon and then there is good nylon. TC
  16. You ask for opinions then tell people they are wrong. Next time take your scales then you will know. Not just a guess because it gave a good scrap. I took one look and guessed 19lb I maybe a mile out and it is actually 19.6. Just be happy that you caught it, it does not matter what it weighs. TC
  17. See there is more than one way to skin a cat. Seriously though, it does show that you can rig, make or set nets in your own way and the outcome will be the same in the end. TC
  18. Got a little bit disjointed when the subs came on, but even though they have not had a lot of time together they did get the combos working, all-be-it against a very tired BaaBaa's TC
  19. If I was limited to one book on trout fishing it would be this one. Brilliant book and his methods really work. TC
  20. As with most things netting, you do it the way it suits youself. I rigged a couple more after those photos were taken, and I seen a way that may have been easier, so I gave it a go and it did work. Evolving and learning all the time. Get the pictures up, it is always good to see another way of doing anything. TC
  21. Tree sparrow has a brown head reed bunting has a black head. TC

  24. I had to make up a couple of trammel stop nets, so I made the square meshed outers yesterday. They are 12" square mesh by 4 meshes deep. After setting up the lines, on the line that is furthest away from me I tack in the outers down the middle so that two meshes hang each side of the line. Next I take the side of the outer that is nearest me and tack it to the line nearest me. while the outer is being tacked it is important that the meshes match on both line or the net will be out of sync when finished. Don't look at the tacks they go anywhere it the knots that ma
