As with most wild nuts it depends on the weather at pollination time. A good warm spring will bring out plenty of nuts. As a bye, pigeon go bonkers about beech mast, find a wood with mast in and you can have some brilliant sport on pigeon. TC

My reply was to Trenchfoot showing the beech mast in your photo. TC

MMMM lets think Bird that nests in a wall, lays 6 eggs, uses grasses and hair as nesting material. Wagtails Flycatchers Looking at the covert feathers it could be a pied bird, but which one flycatcher or wagtail? I'll go with the Wagtail. TC

Some people do not have the spare cash to donate but do want to help, myself being one. Would one kind soul help out in running an auction for gifts to the fund? On the same basis as the Craigyboy auctions? TC

I have sown carrots in boxes this year hidden amongst the mint, trying to beat the carrot fly. But I have also sown some in the garden and not one has come up, yet the ones in the boxes have done well. Beats me, the only thing I can think of is the soil crusting is stopping them pushing through? Might try some in the garden and put some of last years compost on top of the sown seeds instead of earth see if that makes a difference? TC

The wife gets 45p per mile with the company she works for. I get 49p allowance off the taxman. Business use is usually no extra, with any of the insurance companies we have had in the last 5 years. Edited to add: The 49p allowance has to cover everything tax, insurance, breakdowns, Tyres and MOT's and it is only for the first 10,000 miles it reduces a lot after that. TC

Mik, That approach is a very sensible solution to an on going problem. We have the same problem here in Wales. even around 20 years ago there were big flocks of Mergansers on the upper reaches of the Towy and some of it's main tributaries. One in particular the Cothie has in the upper reaches wide fields and meadows that it runs through, lower down the river it runs very fast through deep gorges and steep wooded valley's the upper reaches I used to fish in the night for sea trout and as it was getting dark you would see flocks of mergansers coming down the river going to their roost on a l

Is It Still Me...................?
Tiercel replied to Blackbriar's topic in Catapult & Slingshot Hunting
I got blamed for something I did not do. So if I am getting the blame for something I might as well do it. And make no mistake, if I do report something I will state that I have reported it. If I had reported the thread I would of admitted it. To be honest they have been caught out breaking the forum rules and are using me as a scapegoat. Blame everyone else except themselves who made the posts in the first place. TC -

If the topics are all above board and legal then you have nothing to worry about, do you? So get posting. TC -

The seahog hunter and CRJ are about the worst type of hulls of any dory the two outrigger hulls are too blunt at the front so instead of cutting the water they push it aside, causing the bang bang when hitting even very small waves. TC

The first boat I ever bought was a Picton domino basically a cabin cruiser with a planing hull. stripped it out to make it a netting boat. Great in following seas and hitting seas head on. But as soon as you had to travel across swells it was a totally different story, the hull would follow the swell and if the swells were short and steep it made for a very hairy ride. The newer mono hulls have chimes moulded into them that help get purchase in the water when travelling at speed and gives you greater stability when travelling across swells and when drifting in rougher seas. Two good exampl

Buying a boat it really pays to take your time and think about things. I fished on a Dell-quay that I had built up myself and found it stable but about the worst for slapping I have ever been on. On filling the space below the deck.. One of the boys bought a load of boxes of ping-pong balls at an auction. He used those under the deck of his boat. TC

Thats a nice stretch of river your fishing there. I would like to get your opinion on something I have thought about for the last few years. Do you think it would be a good practice if every female fish had to be returned to the water condition permitting? The reason I ask is that you have just returned that male fish, yet a male parr can inseminate a female's eggs. But the eggs have to be spawned by an adult female. So if you wanted a fish for the table would it be a good practice to take only males where they can be positively identified? TC

Wilson flyers are a bit narrow on the beam for the length. That said I worked on one for 7 or 8 years and it was a good sea boat. Most dories have Inherent flaws one of the most annoying is that they slap constantly when on the plane in any type of seas, bar flat calm. That in turn causes more petrol usage. A lot of the more modern mono planing hulls have almost the the same stability as a dory through the reverse chimes built into the hull, but they do have a little bit more beam than the Wilson Flyer. The mono hulls tend to cut a wave rather than slap into it, that in turn gives you a sm

I lost a good dog to it. There are areas of the country that are hot spots for it. I now know that I live in one. The areas are spreading, some areas have none at all and others are quite prolific. The problem is the symptoms could be anything and are not really serious until it is too late. Deep chested large dogs are more susceptible to the Angiostrongylus vasorum worm. Mibre max, Panacure and as socks said advocate will all treat heart/lung worm, though with milbre max you do need other wormers. TC

A couple of the boys had with's 15ft and by Christ can they go even with small engines. two boys used to fish 600 yards of net off one, not my cup of tea but they were happy enough with them. If I was to get another boat to work single handed I think it would be a Rana 500. Stable plenty of beam and room. TC
