how do i train my lurcher pup to my ferret ???
mally replied to fox assasin's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I start to break pups to ferrets at just 5 weeks old before they go to there new homes. There bomb proof with ferrets when they leave here. The younger you introduce them the better and easier it will be. I always use a shallow dish of goats milk and a trusted ferret hob i got off gnipper on this site. -
I always use Adi to sort out all my guns as he's Family and i always get a cup of tea . His work is spot on and his prices are always fair.

First bags with new over/under
mally replied to 19powell90's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I use 1/4 and 1/2 mate for rough shooting, you'll kill well with those chokes. The cartridges your using are spot on for the job used to use them all the time before i started using the 20g -
Looking good mate, are you putting a roof on the outside runs?

dog has deep cut on front pad after advice
mally replied to tom22's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Staples in a pad??. Don't do too much too soon with the dog after you thinks it's healed mate as they have a tendancy to open up again. -
I wouldn't feed a pet rat that shite let alone a working dog. Give your dog some proper grub raw meat, bones and a good complete food you will get much more out of you dog when it's running about on your lawn lol. Wag workers ok fed it to my lab for a while when i couldn't source chudleys from my supplier and she looked well on it.

I always phone the rossers now when i'm going lamping either shooting or running the dogs and get an incident number, that way if they get any reports they know it's me. Saves them coming out or pulling me on the way home

Totally agree. I've took a look at the first photo's exif data and it was taken on the 12/9/2007 at 07.28.03 sec thats september (if the time and date were right on the camera) You do have to be so so careful as everyone has access to this info and the authorities can get you ip address at the touch of a button which is as good as your address. Seeing posts like this reminds me why i opted to keep just whippets, i've got much more permission as farmers don't consider whippets to be rouge dogs that will attack there livestock..

running on fresh cut rape stubble
mally replied to crossy terrier lad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
You wouldn't catch much around here then mate!!. It's all arable land. I run the whippets on any ground apart from rape and maize stubble. -
Pick there feed up after 10 minutes mate, also question wether your feeding them the right food and too much. If my dogs don't eat up within 10 minutes it gets taken away. I can't stand dogs that are picky with there food, hence all my dogs eat there food within 10 minutes. That way you can get the dishes in, washed for the following day without worrying about attracting vermin to the dog runs. The dogs soon realise that if they don't eat they will go hungry until the following day. It's no good to me if the dogs don't eat up and decide to eat there food in the morning. If i was taking them o

Foxing with Shotguns, following the Combines.
mally replied to bullmastiff's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I never shoot foxes in the head with a shotgun, they take some shot if shot in the head. I always go for the engine room with 3 1/2" winchester xxx number 1's. Although it's getting difficult to get hold of them now i managed to get 3 boxes of ten for a quid a cartridge last week. The express 42gr 1's or 3's are also very good. As already mentioned the BB's just don't carry enough shot resulting in a very poor pattern in most guns. -
Not having a pop at you mate as it's not your dog but if that bitch is just 2 1/2 your mate wants his arse kicking. It's in a piss poor state. I had a 9 year old bitch that looked fitter than that.

A bit of advice mate don't buy one until the end of september as there moulting at the moment and if you move them they will more theres a chance they will die. Seen it many times before and there not cheap...

Great looking cage and very well built. I wouldn't want to move it with it being made out of treated decking. How did you move it???

Jigsaw I've just renewed all my cctv system to a modern 6 camera one. I've given 5 to mates but i have 1 left. It's not the best in the world but it comes with a scart lead that you can put straight into a video. If the video recorder is longplay and you have a 4 hour tape, you have 8 hours recording time. It's a colour camera in the day and black and white at night with built in infared led's. Pm me you address and i will send it to you. Had a dog nicked in the past mate and i know how sickening it feels. There will be no charge to you at all.

Happens around here all the time but not with quads with subaru legacy's or outbacks driving the fields and slipping there dogs after they've chased it around for 10 minutes to slow it down so there dogs can catch it. Then they come on here bragging how many they got. I wonder how many they would get if they walked the fields like the rest of us do. The only way the farmer or keeper knows you've been on there land is if they spot your footprints, unlike the others who leave a calling card for all to see making it redhot for anyone else who wants a run. Horses for courses as they say... not fo

Paul was a great friend and the number of people who turned out to pay there respects at his funeral was testament to him. We gave him a great send off, even though a few of us had one too many in the club afterwards, The coursing field will be a lonelier place this season coming without him and his banter, may he rest in peace and give those hares fair law up there. Rest in peace Paul you may be gone but you'll never be forgotton.

I've worked whippets for the past 8 years and they are as tough as old boots. I ferret, lamp and flush the large rabbits to the gun and they always give 100%. They are well suited to the land i work them on.
