  1. Iams has 30% proteen ....perfect for adult ferrets however you cant beat a proper diet. ie rabbit, pigeon crows ect Its not just the protein its all the other oils and vitamins etc etc. I feed my dry because it stays fresh for longer they also get a couple of eggs mixed in once a week and a bowl of kitten milk, again once a week and ive never had any health problems. As you said it was cat food not ferret food if it was for both animals they would call it Iams Cat and Ferret Food
  2. If it is the hob, then move him out for a month or so because he may still be feeling randy
  3. Why are you talking about feeding them cat and dog food? There are quite a few complete FERRET foods out there which have been nutritionally balanced especially for ferrets. Dog and cat food does not have the right amount of protein! If you are feeding your ferrets complete food meant for other animals i'm not surprised they are ill!!!
  4. My Hob is coming out of season now... I hope it is just hormonal beacause she is such a person friendly ferret
  5. She was in the court with the others prior to the two kits arriving with no problems what so ever. I put the 2 kits in the court and straight away they were attacked by this jill. I thought that it may have been pecking order at first so i seperated the kits, waited a couple of weeks and then introduced the kits to all the other ferrets one or two at a time on a neutral ground. When I thought that all was well I placed them back in the court and straight away this same jill attacked them, so I removed her and placed her in with my hob thinking that she was hormonal and that this would calm her
  6. Has anyone heard or had a ferret that bullies the others. I have an 18 month old jill who when she has been put in my main court singles out and attacks the same 2 kits every time. She is on her own at the moment but she is no good if she cant or wont get over this problem.
  7. It could be the adolescent hob ragging her. They don't normally become sexually active until their following season
  8. I cant find any around here might have to wait until next year now... Cheers for your help anyway hopefully we will be able to meet up a few times over the season with the dogs and ferts
  9. Starting a week on sunday...and i can't wait
  10. Sorry mate i beg to differ there....p.s. Any joy with a polecat hob kit mate??
  11. Easiest way I found to fillet a trout is.... 1/ lay it on a piece of newspaper and remove the head 2/ With a sharp carving knife start cutting just above the backbone where the head used to be remember to keep the knife flat and against the backbone. 3/ Lay you first fillet skin down and with a sharp filleting knife remove the rib bones by making a shallow cut from the top of the fish and slice just below the ribs all the way down to the gut cavity. Cut out the ribs along with the slimy gut cavity. 4/ The second fillet needs to be placed flesh down and the above instructions repeated 5/ r
  12. What an antiquated view you have!! You have to ask yourself why is the ferret vicious? By the sounds of it this guy you knew was of the "old School", the type that thought a ferret had to be vicious to be any good as a worker. (What complete and utter crap.) Ferrets are by nature friendly, and a vicious ferret has been made that way by the person who has brought it up. I have a dozen ferrets and not one of them is vicious. Is that because I have been lucky? I think not, it's because they have been brought up correctly, which means plenty of human contact and handling, good living conditions a
  13. I used to make my own gill nets and they would be about 500 yds long but they would take about a month to complete, That was 10-15 years ago. I know making your own nets is cheaper but i just don't have the time or the inclination to do it
  14. Posterior paralysis can be caused by a number of things such as calcium deficiency, bad diet, spinal trauma and spinal cancer. The symptoms of distemper is a thickening of the pads on the feet, the sh@ts, a great thirst and a rash , usually under the chin. Above all you should be getting it to the vets to make a professional diagnosis because certain ailments can be highly contagious and wipe out all your ferrets.......... On that note there seems to be too many people asking advice rather than just getting their animals to the vets thus shortening any suffering they may be going through!!!!
  15. sorry to hear that mate.
  16. Have to agree with you there mate ive had the same slip lead for the last 15 years. It has never let me down and apart from having to replace the handle part of it everything is 100%. IMHO running a dog with a collar is dangerous especially if running through woodland . But thats just my opinion!
  17. :11: :11: Wasn't there a john smiths advert like that?
  18. Good on you matey its good to see someone try with an animal rather than just give up On another note though I think your step brother shouldnt be allowed to have animals. Anyone who lets any animal live in that type of condition is the lowest of the low :realmad: . I hope when you get your ferret back into condition that you will not let him anywhere near them!!
  19. A lot of handling and a lot of plasters if she is really that aggressive :11: Seriously though try her after she has been fed and is a little more docile. I personally don't agree with flicking or hitting ferrets when they nip or bite, I make a sharp noise at mine which seems to do the trick. Unfortunately whatever she experienced outside of her hutch has had a detrimental affect on herand you will have to gain her trust all over again......Good luck
  20. All of the above and a dog to catch the rabbit which bolts from the one hole i've missed. P.S. Don't feed ferrets cows milk it is not good for them, try kitten milk instead
  21. If they are with a vasectomized hob they can have a phantom pregnancy then come straight back into season. Could this be what is happening?
  22. My beddy x is just a month or 2 older and she caught her first rabbit a month or so back and the guy I was with said i was smiling from ear to ear. 10 minutes after that she had another and all i wanted to do was get home and blab about what shed done to the mrs.....Its a great feeling though
  23. Got agree with you there.....although it is very tempting.
