I agree with rob ive used mine all season and would describe it as brilliant especially when working an area that has alot of brambles or other cover. It is very accurate but a bit noisy i have also found it dosent pick up anything other than the collars
One of the places I do we use longnets to cut off their escape along the roadways and then shoot the ones that try to get across the field. It is a bank along side a main road so you have to be careful where the rabbits run but it contains more holes than i would ever be able to net its only about 6ft wide but about 300 yds long and it is one continuous bury. Weve only done it once this season and had about 50 rabbits out of it. I prefer ferreting to nets but it is a good bit of sport with some very challenging shots
I did not pay for my hob i just gave it a better life than what it would have had had I left it with him. Bandit I return you compliments and thankyou for a good mannered argument oh yeah and thanks for pointing out my spelling mistake
I have done as you suggested Bandit and gone back and read some of ginge's old posts and from them i have realised that the guy is probably young and definitely inexperienced. I have also read some of your replies not just to him but also to other ferreters and realise that you have a fair amount of knowlege so wouldnt it be better to advise (just like you did when you suggested reading a book) as opposed to running a guy down and then after that if he didnt take notice of the advice then you could have a go. I personally believe that we should encourage younger people to participate in field
Hes only had the ferret a couple of weeks bandit it might have been like it before and is trying to sort it out don't chastise a guy before you know the facts. I hate animal neglect but i wouldnt accuse anyone before i found out the full story.
i like decoying there is something very satisfying knowing that your pattern is pulling them in. I enjoy it even more when there is a wind so they start coming through like missiles
feed mine chudleys ferret biscuits they are £2 for a 15kg sack they have all the minerals and protein that a ferret requires something cat biscuits and dog food dont! I let them have the rabbit skins to play with when i have skinned the rabbits but i dont feed them raw meat they are all very healthy with great coats eyes and teeth. One thing i do give them as a treat is a carton of kitten milk once a week
drop them into a warm bath and leave them in there for half an hour youll only need about an inch of water after that put them somewhere warm to dry out..... problem comes when your mrs finds a ferret in her nice clean bath
How old is your hob ginge? If its only a yearling you have to remember its coming into season and its testosterone levels are off the scale if its older then all of the above suggestions
ABOUT 8 MONTHS
That could be your problem then mate
its a purse net mate but with a lot more bag in the purse than normal it does purse but more often than not they tangle themselves as opposed to pursing but ive had 2 rabbits in the net at one time and they pursed that up but it did take a lot of untangling

I always have half a dozen 5ft nets in my bag and ive also got an 8ft net for those holes that just cant be covered, it only probably comes out once or twice a season but it pays for itself after one use
