  1. Having used this rifle for seven months now and killing a few foxes with it ( 53 ) i thought it was time to let folks know how i am getting on with it. The rifle itself is perfect for what i do and owning another two supervarmints makes it no stranger. What i have found is that it is nowhere near as flat as my homeloaded 204s. So much so that i am virtually having to think about every shot i take with it. If a fox is a bit rangy i am ( time permitting ) checking the app to see how far it actually is, something that i have rarely had to do with the 204. For me and where i shoot flatness is king
  2. Good autos those are, got one for my grandson in 28 bore.
  3. I have a fox job to try and sort this week. The bloke we get our ducks and partridge off has a fox on his farm and wants rid before it causes mayhem with his lambs and game birds. He reckons it is a recently cubbed vixen in a nearby banking. It won’t be easy because his mate a “professional “ keeper has educated it.
  4. You would be better sitting in the house and sticking pins in your eyes than going anywhere with that prick!
  5. I don't know what it's like round you but it is fairly windy here. I have a canada geese job to sort out and i am going to use the hmr but not in this wind.
  6. A lot of things pain me mate, but nothing more than some of the piss taking c***s that are shooters. Some years ago i met a chap in my local gunshop that was trying to get into firearms. He seemed a decent sort but he couldn't get anyone to mentor him and they wouldn't give him a fac without a mentoring condition. Now although that isn't strictly lawful it would cost a fair bit to go to court. The up shot was he asked me if i would do it. I had done mentoring for several lads i know before so i thought why not. I accompanied him to his ground several times and also took him to a few of mi
  7. No mate, it is a dell laptop. What happens is after you have written a post ( one of my rambling ones ) and i press submit, it comes up on the screen "error 404 ooops couldn't find the page" . It has done it several times so to be honest it isn't worth trying again.
  8. It has done it again Ben. Only let me post half of what i wrote. I am not going to bother again, it is a waste of time. I don't think it is as good as the 204. That is something i would never do having been bitten once. There is a lot of deer on some of the land i go on and i have no interest in stalking at all. However if the land owners think there are too many i will kill them and pass them to someone that will make use of them.
  9. retrieve the carcass. This involved climbing two barb wire fences at the bottom of the field and then a walk upwards to where it lay. I found it easily in the thermal and it turned out to be a dog of 16lb weight. The shot had gone straight through his neck killing him instantly and according to the app he had been 272 yards. He was an old boy and had an upper canine tooth missing.
  10. Several years ago the farm manager at one of my shoots rang and asked if I knew how to catch moles. Well I told him no I don't, but I know a man who does. The man in question is a professional mole catcher and very good at it. I put the two of them in contact and he cleared out the moles. Periodically they ask him to come back and he does so. Anyway last week I got a call off him to say he had been there again and as he would have traps down for a week or so, he put a trail cam up to see what else was about. He informed me that there was a fox visiting between eleven and half past most nights,
  11. I haven’t used it a great deal yet but I do like it. It’s far more accurate than the cz I had before. It cycles smoothly and is just an all round pleasure to shoot.
  12. I decided to have a bit of a drive around one of my shoots this afternoon because I had a request for a hare. A woman asked me for a head shot hare as she is partial to them. I said I would see what I could do. I don’t normally like to shoot hares, I would much prefer to catch them with a dog but seeing as the fat arse politicians banned that little pleasure some time ago I don’t have much choice. Having said that, of all the lurchers I have had none of them could head shoot a hare.? There where quite a few crows about due no doubt to muck spreading. I managed to nail one that lingered a littl
  13. The one i bought is the vantage 30 wa sf ir 4-16 x 50
  14. You could do worse than the Hawke vantage hmr reticuled scope. I bought one for mine and although i haven't used it a great deal due to weather, i think it is very good.
  15. Speaking of fallow, a mate that i shoot with does a fair bit of ratting for a couple of farmers. One of which has bought a fair parcel of ground away from his farm for his sheep. There are lots of fallow on it and he has asked my mate if we will go and knock the numbers down. I said tell him we will but only if we can go foxing.?
  16. I bought a 28 bore for my grandson a while ago, very well made auto, not had any bother with it.
  17. On more than one occasion i have opened one of mine up to find it is full of earwigs, just how they get in i have no idea. However if earwigs can get in, dampness will have no problem.
  18. They cannot stand our damp weather indefinitely. I have found a way to get a bit longer out them is to create a cover for them out of a plastic milk jug. It protects them from the worse downpours and of course constant drizzle we get but eventually they do succumb. I have brought odd ones back to life by leaving them on a radiator for a few days but it isn't always successful.
  19. Bearing in mind i have never voted labour in my life and never will. However the two gun bans we have had where both under conservative governments. 1987 after Hungerford they banned semi auto centre fire rifles. Then as a last gasp to try to gain votes they banned handguns in 1997 after the Dunblane incident in 1996. Don't think for one minute a politician of any party would stand up for firearms owners if votes where to be had for not doing so.
  20. The bombs that hit Nagasaki and Hiroshima where only a fraction of the power they are now.
