  1. The .1 difference in szie in some pellets can make all the difference in the performance of the Lightning.
  2. Some 24 years ago i had a .22. Then one day i met a lad in my local quarry and he had a .177 HW77. A rabbit was sat on the rocks well out of my range and this lad just whacked it, open-sights, straight through the head. That was enough for me and i have never had a .22 since. I've shot everything there is to shoot with a .177 and i don't see a single negative factor for them. The only thing some lads have said to me is "Well they don't have the stopping power for rabbits, rats and squirrels". Well, you hit any of those three rodents in the head then if will be calling for their P45, cos the g
  3. I don't hate them, they're just doing what they were put on this earth to do. But, i don't like the way they are killing my treecreepers, so i'm just repaying the compliment...from one predator to another, so to speak.
  4. For once everything fell into place. The woods were still a bit windy but the sunshine had brought every squirrel and his dad out for a rummage through the woodland leaf litter. We saw plenty and i managed 8 in and hour, some of them quite young squirrels, so maybe they're breeding late this year due to the Indian summer we have been enjoying. Again, FN 12 hawk and some Bisley LRG and, of course, a whole dollop of luck. By the way, the gun is a .177 for those that say such a calibre isn't much use on such quarry......the photo does not show the full bag, just five....happy hunting...JD
  5. Yes, i think the tally was more down to luck than good judgement to be perfectly honest! I;'m quite happy with the 7D camera, took some quite nice stag pics with it last week and they look ok too. TBH a posed shot of a couple of squigs and a gun isn't very hard....Lamping pics - now THEY are hard. Happy Shooting....JD
  6. Hi, I'm using canon gear, a 7D and today was a 70-200 lens as i wanted some good retrieving photos for my library. Cheers
  7. The woods are still fully leafed and its hard work trying to hunt under the foliage. Christ, it should be dying off by now! Still, no point in moaning, best to charge the gun and hit the woods.I planned on a quick jaunt, under an hour kind of thing and for 55 minutes i wandered willy nilly without getting a shot off. A handful of squirrels were seen but they soon outwitted and eluded me, either dashing into the very tops of the trees or racing away across the tree tops. Our little walk had taken us a circular route and now we were within 1/4 mile of the car when the dog started marking a tree.
  8. Sometimes i wonder.......if its power someone wants, then why not just get a rimmy and have done with it. Airgun hunting is all about trying to get close and putting the pellet it accurately. Sure, you're limited, restricted even, but the legal limit, but that's what makes it so bloody great. But it's each to their own....
  9. Had several 80's. I've shot hundreds upon hundreds of quarry with Superdomes. Maybe the gun is too powerful to get get good groups. I also used field target trophy to good results. I think too many lads have this obsession with power, well, once upon a time i had a 77 and that 77 was about as lethal a gun as you could get. I whacked everything including its fair share of hares, ducks and had rabbits out to over 70 yards through the head. It was as sweet as a nut straight out of the box and those 'domes flew sweeter than a teenagers kiss. Then one day i got it chrono'd, and it was doing 10ft
  10. Those black cock are hard to get near. I've tried a few times, but only managed it with another man's help.
  11. It's a very good book and one that will remain a timeless classic. The amount of times i have looked at that gazelle and saluki photograph as a young lad.....
  12. We spent the last couple of winters in a defender. If you went through any depth of water, mere puddles, the wiring loom would take in moisture and cut out. Very very bad design. That motor spent its fair share of time getting towed 100+ miles back on the back of an RAC wagon! The mechanic couldn't fix it, no one could. The problem has been solved now because it was nicked, never to be seen again. what age JD? Newer ones seem to be pretty sorted on keeping going forward, my guess is your talking about a TD5 with ecu under the drivers seat..... ??

  14. I have found that with the Mitubishi's the MPG can vary dramatically from vehicle to vehicle. Other than that i think they are a superb motor and a very comfortable drive.
  15. If you kill a fox another will fill the void. Better to make your garden fox proof IMO. Prevention is better than cure IMO.
  16. Well done that man! Keep at 'em...
  17. Don't support them....Don't give the BBC your money.
