  1. Tucked a Bisley right behind this chap's elbow and he didn't move!! He just came spinning down.......
  2. I have done. I have been discussing this for over 20 years. there is nothing at all wrong with body shots. An animal hit in the chest is going down, no matter what calibre you shoot with. All along i have stated that it is not the calibre, but the placement. Body shots kill. Yes. They kill effectively. Ive been at this game a little while now, and ive dropped a couple of criters on the way, and i've seen hundreds of body shots on squirrels, rats and rabbits. I am of the opinion that a .22 dont kill quarry any deader than a .177. You hit the zone and its good night vienna. the hard part is h
  3. After a fortnights damp fog the sun finally put in an appearance. If theres one thing i've learnt in my years on this earth its that squirrels just love a sunny day, and today was no exception. But today was not just about having a rake about, i wanted to look further at the effectiveness of a .177 with body shots. I have heard quite a few lads saying that the .177 is no good for body shots because it lacks the punch a .22 has. So, today, where ever possible i took a body shot. Twelve silver critters fell foul of the Fn12, and i guess 7 or 8 were body shots, and not only that, they were body
  4. I use a Metz 70 MZ 5......its pretty powerful.....
  5. Presentation box that will, hopefully, save the book getting any bumps in transit.
  6. I think the idea was that he is re-locating them rather than kill them. Despite what many think, the traps don't 'cut to the bone' and the rubber jawed traps that guy was using only holds the foot, not damages it.
  7. Hi, Jim Meads has a couple of good ones out, try amazon. But also Lynn Harbour (sp) has a new book out about lakeland hunting. Try that if you can matey. It's meant to be good. Hope this is helpful
  8. Glad you appreciate them matey. But don't forget, they can never be a substitue for getting out there and having a good old mooch with your own dog. I remember when i was fifteen, and lamping mad, time passes very fast, so do as much as you can , while you can, 'cos one day you might end up old and want to tell the young ones how things were much different when you were their age!! lol All the best..JD
  9. is it bout your antics or anyone in paticular ??? just wondering bud A bit of everything. A few stories from other lads too. Might make a change from the smellies and undies this xmas....
  10. It's 'Of Dogs and Deer'...A bit different than what's been done before. 69000+words. Lots of action. Presentation box and all that jazz. etc etc...
  11. you can send a cheque...if its easier. Payable to J Darcy, to Po Box 546, Leeds LS5 3WW...
  12. Duck Sauce ruined a classic! Sacriledge.

  13. Well, don't let my poor results put you off. But, if you want to have a go you need to manually focus the lens at a predetermined point then use a high F value, then the highest power your external flash has. Then pray. lol. I'm just being realistic matey......
  14. Well HBG, action lamping shots are the holy grail of photos. Theres only one thing that is harder and thats Deer Coursing photos. Problem you face with lamping pics is the lens wont focus fast enough for action pics, and, if by a minor miracle it does focus, the action is 95% of the time too far away. All i will say is good luck! Ive been trying for about 22 years now and i've only just started to get some average ones. I wish you well, but don't build your hopes up too high matey.... JD
  15. Quicks have a really poor selection of broadheads,I was using their indoor range and went for a mooch in the on-site shop, they had 2 types of broadhead,I asked the price, the guy immediately said we dont sell them in the UK,they are export only, that despite the fact you can but dozens of makes online, doesnt make sense. so they've imported them to export them again!!! I didn't think they were anything special, not especially knowledgable either. But, still, that's life!
  16. I never rated Quicks........ Yes, it is perfectly legal to import bows and anything else along those lines into the UK. This includes broadheads and arows as well. You need to choose a bow to fit your body and then choose arrow size/weight to fit your bow. Then you have to tune it all up. Its not as simple as what you may think. Bowhunting is illegal in the UK, but it is legal to use a bow and arrow hunting coimbination to practice with on targets for when you go abroad to hunt with a bow legally.
  17. Plenty of meat on that one...
  18. J Darcy

    hares

Its perfectly legal matey. If anything, you're doing the hare a favour.
  19. All i use is a .177 and i get my fair share of tackle...... All i can say is, if your getting runners you want to leave off the live quarry until you get your gun to hit where its pointed...or learnt to shoot . You hit something right with an air rifle doing even 9ft/lb and its going to heaven. There's alot of bullshitters have strong set-in-stone opinions on topics when they haven't had enough experience to give a valued opinion on. No matter what quarry , you hit him where his kill zone is he's going to die. JMHO JD
