  1. What a sad loss.. like has been said, he was a fountain of knowledge, and was never short of time to give good advice. Will be greatly missed
  2. I know a bunch of oldish lads in Scotland that have kept the same line since the late 60's (so they say) dont know how much out-crossing has been done but looking at some old pics they type hasnt changed much since then thats for sure.. they are deerhounds (not pure). So thats 50 years +
  3. I see a few in daylight hours, but its remote up here, little to bother them.
  4. Has J carried on the line from the old dog? It would be a sin not too, that kind of longevity is testament to a very well put together dog. Jims had snipe to a few bitches,,, and his young dog is snipes son. Great night fellas, old snipe still keeps doing the job, deffo a credit to jim and his care of the old dog,,,keep the threads coming loftie,, a lot better seeing this stuff, than all the arguing on the other lurcher section Hats off to you lads, Jim and the others, all the best for the up n coming generations. Top dog men
  5. Got a slight gripe about your topic's title though (not a jab at you)... ''what a lakeland should look like'' As that implies looks mean something..the lakeland terriermen I know personally wont consider looks, but do consider size, coat, and obviously ability first and foremost. The ammount of different looking terriers in their kennels shows that typey lookers are not the order of the day. Some of them tiny wee things, others with heads like aligators... what they look like today matters not. What they work like, matters a lot.
  6. Theres some nice books out at present Tam, of which you may know, regarding the Lakeland fell packs... loads of great pics in them. In certain kennels old strains live on, and similar types are found today working the rocks and earths. i enjoy reading up about the old days, if only we could all go back a hundred years!! All the best

  10. I wear a good waterproof cammo jacket, shirt underneath. Tweed breeks. Gators and boots. Tweed hat. If not too wet, tweed jacket instead of waterproof.
  11. Cheers mate. Just was worried in case he had not healed properley more than anything. He only got op last friday so wanted to see how long other ppl would wait before putting him with others. yeah no bother, hope it works out good mate
  12. Like you say, their kits, so wont get preggers even if he still has a bit juice left in the tank. Just put him in and see if gets on ok with them, watch em for a while, wait until they settle down, should be fine from then onwards.
  13. Heres to a speedy recovery Craigy.... all the best!
  14. Haha Ive been wearing wellies all summer! Been one of the wettest summers up here, lucky us ey! Im sat in right now, because Im rained off work AGAIN! Please, let the sun shine, oh lord, just for a week!
  15. Just make sure you know what you have to do, dont leave any boxes unticked. Keep to the law, and follow all regulations. You will have a great trip, with nothing to worry about.
  16. You cant get done if you dont break the law. simple. If dog is marked up due to working legal quarry in another country, you simply need to prove veterinary treatment has been/is being given. You cant get done for doing LEGAL pest control in other countries.
  17. Looks like a bramble basher that yen skycat! Nice pic
  18. Cracking, thanks for the help lads. Aye I thought it would be a load of rubbish! But another piece of paper to stop folk claiming against companies etc When lifting, I find it best to take your legs completely out of the equation...lift with the back, in a twisting jurking motion, cant go wrong!
  19. Hi Folks Im needing a manual handling certificate for work, anyone on here got one? Wheres the best place to obtain this? What is the course/training like? Any info would be much appreciated. DnN
  20. Speaking to a keeper yesterday, who keeps and breeds this cross, he says he would never get another labrador. The pointer adds a great quartering ability, and uses airborn scent much better than MOST labs, you also get a toughness that isnt present in the average lab. Ability to track and hold wounded boar or deer is bred into the gwp, and they take to hunting toothed or dangerous game easily .... Now Ive seen some good labs, that would make anyone happy, but sadly not the norm, and you wouldnt expect it in a lab anyway, as they are first and foremost a retriever, not a hunter. Like gets said
