Hunting feral's.... broken to domestic...
dogs-n-natives replied to dogs-n-natives's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I raised and released them to hopefully meet up with them again lol the area I was in (12 years ago) had few foxes. I would think that once out of the home/farm environment for some time they would be viewed like any other fox, couldnt say 100% if I ever did meet them again, should have tatooed them! -

Im sure there could be accidents if the pet version was found in among the wild -
Its not a dig at the site Ian, but thats why I dont post anymore.......

Report them, we will look at them.mate. Remember that time I had two digs in the same earth, got two dog fox...with my cousin who is also a member on here... I had grief of a certain member, which escalated into very threatening PMs sent to my young cousin, at which point I sent you the PM which my cousin recieved, as it was pretty thretening, not just to him (young boy) but to his home, his dogs and his family.... Nothing was done and the dirty roid rageing peado continued to post his ego inflating bollocks posts, some so called 'hard man' sexually threattening young boys, and their famil

just out of interest if you took the same dogs to someone else farm / land that owns goats would they have been ok with them?? only reason i ask is that i know a few dogs that good with their home cats but if seen 1 in the street / feild / woods ect would'nt think twice in giving chase etc. Yes Im often around farms with goats, my sons grandma has goats... I used to have goats... lots of farms I work on have goats... the dogs wont even look at em, can even sleep in the same barn as them, but as soon as they get a whiff of ferals, its game on. They know -

Yeah, I dont have cats myself, hate the damn things... but i have a few mates with cats, and their dogs live fine with them, yet will kill any feral they meet no questions, thats lurchers as well as terriers! Hows it so hard for some to believe? -

Im not saying i just brought home a brace of foxes and chucked em into the kennels mate.... These were new born cubs, and I had em in the house, i brought each dog in in turn to meet them, it was no different to any other stock breaking training, some were less bothered than others about them. The terriers all were dug to regular. I know an old boy that had a pet badger, yet his terriers all dug them regular, same with a well known otterhound pack that had a pet otter at the kennels -

Fair enough.... and yes they must know the difference. -
I used to put up a post or two when I could be arsed... but the ammount of shit you get sometimes., makes the whole thing frustrating. I have no issues posting topics, as I like reading about others days/nights out, so liked to contribute, however theres so many dickheads about it did my nut in. Like you say anyone with any sense can conduct their hunting 'within the law', and have no issues posting topics. But I feel most are put off, not by the legal aspects, but by folk who should be on our side crabbing genuine posters

It always amazes me when folk cant get their heads round the fact that you can have your dogs as steady and stock broken around all stuff, bombproof with other dogs, poultry everything. Yet a feral version of an animal would be hunted like any other wild animal... the dogs know the difference. If you put the work in early in the dogs life to break to stock, you will never loose that. I used to hunt feral goat, yet the dogs used would never look at any farm goat, and we even had goats at our house, the dogs lived with them no issues.., Ive even had arguements on here with other goat hunters s

Good work mate.... what other breeds are in your lurchers?

A few Greys this morning
dogs-n-natives replied to FOXHUNTER's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
well i am ashamed to say, i have never tried grey squirrel, but since moving to herts, and with the place being over-run with them, plus the nearest supermarket being waitrose and not being able to drive, i think it may well be on the menu some time in the very near future, ecspecially after buying myself an airarms s410 I'll trade you some deer hinds for a bunch of squirrels if I can come and shoot some! me and les got these in a couple of hour's duncan,we,ve got a right little spot for em... OOh I bet those squeakers are delicious deep fried mmmmm -
Add white pudding, mushrooms, toast, hash brown and a fried tomato to that and you're nearly there! Got to be topped off with cracked black pepper and HP sauce too... Nail on head there Mal.. fecking hell I bet everyones slavvering at the mouth over this thread.... I know what direction tomorows breckie is heading in... shame I only have half the shit in the fridge.,

Should make very handy lurchers, all the best with them -
Thats nice to hear coming from you, thanks, your spaniels were a joy to watch hunting those reshes after bunnies, I never had mine trained to that level, but he certainly was a grafter, never a dull moment with spaniels . I will be without a gundog this season But im picking up next years hopeful this evening on the way back to the Border.
-
Yes, lovely dogs but you have to keep on top of them. They are always looking to bend the rules. So true
-
I always kept spaniels in the past, but my cocker was hit by a car and killed a bit back, a sad loss for me, he was a great dog, and even excelled the springers I had before him. He was a roughshooting dog, shooting and beating dog, foxing, marking, squirrel hunting, mink hunting, wasnt the steadiest for rabbit shooting but could have easily been if I wanted him for that, great in water and handled all game, excellent on long retrieves. But they need a solid training plan, then the more time spent with them the better they are, they dont know the meaning of the word 'quit' lol they would go all

A well put together litter thats turning out well, credit to MOO and the pups owners they should be putting plenty in the bag this season for you lads. I have a similar bred bitch here deer/sal/grey she's 3 and she has done me proud so far... got me in trouble this morning lol but by feck I dont go hungry!! Good luck with all the saplings this season, DnN
