  1. Just as an example, my old bull dog is slowing now, so I dont lamp him much anymore, but his nose is so good, and his desire to hunt and find is awesome, so he still has his use in driving game and vermin from cover, a job which he can do at his own pace, and though Ive had 8 hard years out of him, he should plod on doing this sort of stuff for at least a couple more I reckon. But every dog is different. Just look after them as well as you can, all the best of feeding, plenty meats/bone/fats etc and treat them as well as you can. It doesnt take money until injuries occur, but if your dogs catc
  2. Nice stamp of a bull/grey that, good luck finding the right bitch
  3. I didnt hear that shite yesterday, but im sat in a bar just now, and earlier on they had radio 2 on the telly in the bar. It was a show called 'what makes us human' For an hour it was just Some bible basher going on about jeesas said this, jeesas said that... f**k my life. This country. Get me the heck out of here!
  4. Thanks for the input mate, the underwater stuff sounds good, as im wanting to get into my harpoon fishing, and I do a bit of cliff jumping and stuff too. But no doubt it will spend most of its life strapped to a dog! lol
  5. That really is a nice drawing sandymere. Really nice.
  6. Im in Canada for the autumn, hunting, taking the dogs over, so I will hopefully get some footage over there.
  7. Ive ordered a go pro black, might make for some interesting vids when hunting abroad, or rabbiting here as you can strap em onto the dog easy enough. Would like to knoow others opinions, experiences with this video camera Cheers DnN
  8. Instinct is just that... instinct. You cant train it into any dog
  9. If the deer is easily held, then I point its head face down, chin towards the body, insert knife between skull and last vertebrae, sounds time consuming but easy and quick if the deer is not strongly thrashing. Otherwise Im in at the front of the chest, straight into heart/arteries, as you have to bleed from there anyway.
  10. A knife. I liked the story about the rugby tackle fail. I had a deer come straight at me the other day, but it was a red, i started screaming and waving like a nutter, it glided off the track 20 feet in front, (that was close enough.).. over the roughest shit imaginable for any animal to run over, brash matt - yards wide and yards deep.
  11. Even the bigger dogs still need proper technique to be decent. Getting dragged by fallow doesnt need to happen (not far anyway). Any dog should grab a hock or whatever, but as soon as possible it should be under the chin.
  12. Had a few, but few and far between. Had a silver one aswell, probably rarer than albino.
  13. Thank god for cold peroni by the pint, after a long sweaty day on the hill

  14. Not really going to compete with a garmin, but could be useful for some folk im sure.
  15. Chilled out at home, tuned in in the field... thats my experience of the good ones anyway. Too many folk prepared to wait for ever nursing a shit dog along in case it throws the towel in, yes the big ones need that bit more time to mature, but the crosses should be firing on all four ciylinders by 12 months or they might as well go in a hole in my opinion. Too much of a 'label' going about, being late starters, and too sensitive. Cull the shit, and get some decent blood in your kennels.
  16. I think over these rough as feck mountains, the more deerhound the better! The rabbits are huge up here too! I am planning on putting my 1/4 deerhound to a full bred in November, so 5/8th deerhound, should suit me spot on. Ive looked into a few options for the stud, I am drawn to the knights errant x doxhope jisteen bred dog, but not set in stone yet. DnN
  17. Could be anywhere, unless you visit the same moor all the time, heather all looks alike, yes tommy you can walk about all day and have the place to yourself, brush would be useless up there L.C. it was like walking through a wind tunnel No mate, when ye live on the fells, they all look very different.. anyway, nice ground for a ratch, and cracking pair of dogs you have! all the best
  18. You got that book together mate?? Is it the article compilation or new material? Drop me a PM if you could DnN
  19. My kind of ground that, in fact, looks familiar!
  20. If its bred for the job, go for it, if not, forget it. As to create a working version out of a non-working dog would be many many years of hard work in the field, as well as the countless litters needed to be bred, you would need a big hole, and lots of bullets mate, thats all Im saying.
  21. Its been a long time since I hunted up Ennerdale, takkes a decent pair of lungs to cover them fells, but when theres a hunt on, the adrenaline helps!
  22. Yes mate, logo's, company names are all good. Once you go ltd you must register the name with companies house, and it must be unique. But they aint too bothered when your a sole trader.
