  1. Looks like an earth dog to me lol... I'd invest in a locator collar at the very least, if you want peace of mind.
  2. Im heading the same way I reckon, I've seen a few, that were very good on the moors, for all game and vermin. I wont be putting a greyhound over mine, but Ive got a few plans regarding the next generation of workers, (nothing concrete), Ive got to see how she goes on these boar and if all good she will be a finished dog this time next month. DnN
  3. Just make it fun! I would wait until your training has got the pup sitting, staying, retrieving well, and learning hand signals well.. Get a friend to stand 50 yards away, and when you hoy the dummy, he shoots, then on command send the pup for the fetch. Gradually bring the gun closer to you., keeping things fun for the pup, no dicipline, allow for a bit of loss of concentration etc If the pup gets frightened you might as well then put the dam gun to its head, i dont know about you, but I couldnt be arsed with a gun shy dog. haha lucky Ive not had one yet. Just kidding. Or am I? Happy Chr
  4. I agree completely, and I doubt very much that I will ever be without one again. Well said, and merry Christmas. DnN
  5. Nice stamp of a dog, the sire. Hope the pup keeps you smiling.
  6. Get your lurcher to catch its own meat... best price and best quality!
  7. Fallow will be brought to a bay, with hounds, if they dont bring it straight down. I would have liked to have hunted those little muntjac, with the old bushing pack. I bet they are great fun in those brambly woodlands down south.
  8. I was always planning on trying this cross, but I changed career so that sorted that out lol, I cant imagine them lacking energy lol all the best with the pup Willow. DnN
  9. Roe will run in big loops, bit like a hare, but may cross water etc, you would never bay up a roe, they run till they drop dizzy, and once you are used to certain areas, you and the dogs learn the usual circuits they take from cover, and if hounds stay on them they circle back eventually. Years ago it took up lots of my time. Red deer run miles, and will eventually bay up, they often enter water, and often the deer will head for water to loose the hounds, they glide over the shittiest land and are very strong with good stamina... Fallow are similar to reds in that they will take you m
  10. There are also grants available for farmers who plant game covers that also benefit wild birds through the winter.
  11. Cheers Johnny, Im away from home just now, but I will be back home next weekend and i'll post a few up.

  13. Hello folks This is my wirehair bitch. So far she has made quite an impression on me. And by far the best all rounder I've owned. Good hunting all DnN
  14. Yes, with great results. But Im thinking mine broke the mold somewhat. I did use my cocker to produce some excellent fox bushers, one litter were russel/pat x cocker, the other terrier/beagle x cocker, all worked fox relentlessly. Most pure spaniels are naturally very close workers, ie, they dont follow the line very far at all. (mine would push them out of cover, and kill them easy if wounded etc) The added hound or terrier blood will give the spaniel more range, following the line keenly, and with the bonus of voice, giving tounge on a hot scent is a huge asset that pure spaniels d
