  1. To obtain an explosives certifiacte you will need to either download a form from here http://www.met.police.uk/firearms-enquiries/forms.htm or ring your licensing dept for a form. This is only if you want to purchase and keep black powder only. You are allowed 5kg of Nitro Powders which is more than you will need at one time by far. Most are sold in 1lb tubs from the States. I homeload shotgun cartridges for ducks and geese with mainly steel but some Bismuth for my 8bore, I have an explosives licence as thats what I use in the 8. There have recently been some new regulations regarding the
  2. Just add the crows that you shoot to the pattern at intervals, Face the pattern into the wind as normal, instead if using a shape like a horseshoe, I find that crows prefer a random pattern with the birds scattered within a small area, put the odd bird the other way into the wind so it doesnt look too religious. A dead rabbit with the gut cut open or some other bird with the gullet cut open may help to attract the first ones.
  3. Great Shooting SNAP SHOT, Putting the rest of us to shame. Not much will escape with shooting like that. ss06
  4. Great post John, As you know I have been following this saga in chat and you finally got him after much trying! Confidence restored. Good Shooting John and a great read. Great to beat your PB. Regards ss06
  5. Is that a wildcat round? How does it shoot, do you have any information on it? Is it also called the .22 Rocket? From what I can find its also known as a .22/.303, a 303 case necked down to .22, Is this the case. Regards ss06
  6. I do an awful lot of Crow shooting and there is no doubt the best decoys are dead crows. The best decoys otherwise are flock coated ones, they can be made to bob or can be bought as flappers, a rotary machine is also good but it will need to be turned down to around 25rpm to work on crows. A pattern could be in a horseshoe like pigeon but i find a fairly random pattern the best. Crows will see you a mile off, so you will need to keep perfectly still until it is too late for him, your hide will be the same as a pigeon hide, a net set up against a hedgerow. You can not use electronic callers
  7. I had a phone call this morning from a farmer friend, he keeps a lot of different kinds of poultry as well as 400 odd free range laying hens. He had lost 25 hens in one pen to a fox last night and wanted me to see if i could nab him. I went down during the day and cleared up the mess(nice guy that I am, he is busy with his lambs) and left three good sized hens out for bait with their gullet cut open to make them a bit more attractive. So having done that, I came home and did other things, one was clean the centrefire, as I was doing this I remembered that it has a set trigger, which I had co
  8. He has the Heavy Barrel Laminated, looks good and works well, (would have to suggest more of a range gun), it's too heavy by a mile for me, I'm just a big girlie really, want someting light and easy to cart around the fields! You may have already looked here but its the lightest rifle they do it seems. http://www.howa-rifles.de/howa/hh-houge.htm Available in .243, as its in German Im not sure whether it would cost more to have a non standard calibre. Regards ss06
  9. That looks like a nice combo Deker, as you say the only weak point being the Scope. Good Quality components otherwise. I had a look at the Howa range in Litts, the last time I was there and they seem to be very solidly constructed as well as having a good feel to them. The thumbhole stock with a stainless barrel makes for a good looking piece of kit. Doesn't Mr Logic have a Howa? Regards ss06
  10. This is truly shocking that not just one person but many so-called art lovers could walk by and watch this happen. They say cruelty to animals is wrong and that animals have rights not when its art apparently Disgusting ss06
  11. ss06 i have been reading a lot about shot size and load size.from the info i have given you would you know what kind of shot and load size i can use for my gun.would it differ if i am shooting game or clay?.What would you recommend. For clays yo are more than likely to be using either 24 or 28 gr 7or 7 1/2 shot. If you were to shoot game then things change a bit. The main reason you will shoot steel is for duck, i would recommend Express Hunting Steel or similar in shot size 4. This will normally be 32gr and will cleanly kill duck. I would not recommend using more than half choke with
  12. next tuesdee at about 6 oclock is it in aunty gladys,s house in peckham by any chance Either No. 10 Downing Street or Television Centre, as yet to be confirmed.
  13. If you have the land for an FAC then go for that aswell, shotgun certs dont require land just a good reason. E.g, If you apply for both you will need a letter from a landownder saying you have permission to shoot on his land and with the rifle you want. A good reason could be destruction of vermin or fox. A good reason for your shotguns could be clay shooting, rough shooting and vermin control. As long as you have the land, the reason and the security then you should have no problems getting both at the same time, however, it may be easier and more beneficial for you if you have your shotgu
  14. Before you go through the motions of filling in application forms and sending cheques, give your firearms licensing dept a call and see what they say. If you are a member, give BASC a call and see what they say also. Seen as these offences both involve wildlife and firearms they may take a bit of interest. Regards ss06
  15. All steel shot designed for clay shooting can be fired through your gun with no problems as they are a light load and have a plastic wad to stop the shot coming into contact with the barrel walls. Unfortunately, yes it does mean that the gun cannot fire high performance steel shot or 3" cartridges. Without seeing it or the proof marks i cannot tell exactly how old it is, but it would be no more than ten years old. They still make guns in 2 3/4 so it could be nearly new. If you want to know exactly you can contact the importers, GMK Ltd, and ask them , they can tell you from the serial numb
  16. That means the gun is 2 3/4" or 70mm. It will fire all standard steel shot up to 70mm or 2 3/4". 18.4 is the bore size, which is .724in this is the normal bore size for a 12 bore.
  17. That mass produced chocolate cake rings a bell with pink custard, Angel Delight was another one. Lamb Twizzlers too, made me ill one day never touched them ever again. Seem to remember most of it was terrible for you, i must have been in the middle of traditional school dinners in the 50's. 60's and 70's and the real bad stuff of the 's and 90's.
  18. I agree completely as do others on here, All the pics should either include a legal means of despatch or not be posted at all. As you say, dogs with rabbits or rats and foxes, deer and any other quarry with a firearm,
  19. Well said, Thanks SNAP SHOT, Its just defies common sense to post pictures and words which would harm the future of fieldsports in the short and long term. This is a great resource why spoil it is my question, why stoop to the level of an Agent Provocateur or any other plant when we should be able to spot them a mile off. I agree that some people who use this forum are complete beginners and need to gain knowledge, that is what other members are here for, to enlighten others from our contextural knowledge but when a member posts rediculous and obviously rigged questions we should be a
  20. We are all still learning erk, The Beretta 686 has many different models, if i assume it is a game/sporter model then a fixed choked gun will be 1/4 and 1/2 and normally will have a 3" chamber(this will be marked on the first few inches of the barrel at the top). If it is a three inch model you will have no trouble firing all standard steel shot. The trouble comes when you want to fire 3" High Performance steel if the gun is not proofed for it as the high performance steel works to a much higher pressure. The High Performance steel shot mark is a Fleur de Lis, this will be marked on the bar
  21. Looks like you could be overtaking your dad before long with shooting like that. Well Done Sounder Jnr  ss06
  22. What did I say yesterday in chat sounds, "No more fires Yet?" I wander who kept you in chat the previous night till all hours Well done and keep it up. ss06
  23. In a single barrel the most i have seen is 32", and they normally come with full choke. I have shot 34" over and unders but they are rare and pretty pointless in my opinion. Best thing to do is have a look around on the net and see what you come up with. Any reason why you want as long as possible? Cheers ss06
  24. Hi ss06 i have changed my mind and bought a second hand beretta 686 insted as the lamber was sold. The Beretta has full choke and i was told that this will have no problems with steel shot by the seller.I spent 300 pounds more then what i set out for but hope i made the right decision. Thanks for your reply. Is it a 3" model? When you say the Beretta has full choke is it a fixed choke or multichoke? What are the barrels choked at/what multichokes came with it? You have made a good decision in going for the Beretta as long as its cared for it will last forever. I am a bit dubious about t
