  1. I have a Striker 170 now but in the past I have made my own. I used a scrap headlamp from an old mini, this was heavy to start with but i trimmed off what I didnt need, trying to lose some weight and managed to get it reasonable. A mate welded a 6" long x 1" wide metal strap to the rear of the lamp, which i then mounted in a wooded handle with my handprint for a more comfy fit. I bought some double core and a switch, then wired the whole thing up with a 75 watt bulb and a 12v motorbike battery, which was taken off a bike that was going for scrap. In all, the battery was free, the lamp was
  2. Sounds like an Excellent few days you both had. Some true vermin control and hunting meat for yourself. What else would you want. Enjoyed the read too, what are you shooting with? Regards SS
  3. Have good one den, plenty of that strong alcoholic stuff down you. SS :drink: :drink:
  4. Normally you would get it on first renewal, unless you have deer on your cert and then it would be open, sometimes it can be done earlier if you can prove to them an open is more beneficial to them aswell as you. SS
  5. Out Duck flighting last year, started getting dark slowly then it went pitch black within a minute. Next thing we had thunderdrops, along with ferocious thunder, no duck would be flying now. Lightning came down in the field behind us, so we though best to leave now! We sat in the car out on the roadside just outside the farm gates and watched the display of fork lightning, just spectacular. No duck for us though. Regards SS
  6. If you have a closed FAC then yes you can only shoot where the land has been approved. If you want to shoot somewhere new then you need to contact your Licensing Dept and ask if the land is approved, if yes, great, if not then an FEO will have to inspect and pass the land first. Most land has already been checked but some stil remains.
  7. i cant see them i also ment the width of the mounts that go on to the rail on the gun as its only mounts not rings and bases thanks Try this one http://www.litts.co.uk/product_detail.php?id=2021. This link has the dovetail measurement as 0.7" which i believe is 19mm. http://cz-usa.com/product_detail.php?id=18 Best thing if you can is go to a shop to buy mounts and take the gun with you.
  8. You could try here http://www.litts.co.uk, they have the range, if youre existing mounts are 25mm and so is the scope you want then no need to change, if the new scope is 30mm then you will need the same width mounts as you have now only in 30mm.
  9. You can apply for an SGC at any age, you can be given a gift of a shotgun at 14, use one with ot supervision when 15 and buy them and ammo when your 17. With a firearms, you need to be 14 to hold an FAC, 17 to buy guns and ammo, because of the increased difficulty of transfering firearms your probably better off applying for your SGC now and then applying for a FAC when your 17 so you can buy your guns and ammo yourself. With shotguns, someone over 17 can buy them for you and transfer them to you with relative ease. Regards SS
  10. On my .222 I have a Swarovski Z6i 2-12x50, with Leupold mounts. On the .17 HMR I have a Nikko Stirling Diamond, 3-9x42 with Bisley Sportsmatch mounts. Regards SS
  11. is the nikko nighteater a good scope and will it hold its zero on a 22.250 also are they clear optics A mate used to have one on his, got a Schmidt and Bender now, and he never had any trouble with it, it is a good scope for the money, you should have no problems with good mounts with this scope.
  12. I have just gone through all this myself so here goes. First, you will need the landowner(s) to each sign a letter of consent that says you have his permission to use his land, his address and how big it is. This form may help- http://www.cambs.police.uk/information/for...ms/landauth.pdf You will need to put these forms in with your application. When you give the reference form to your referees, provide them with an SAE each and ask them to send them as soon as possible after they have completed them. Once your forms are filled in then send them in, the police will wait for both referenc
  13. personally I like mil dots but also dont mind the ordinary crosshair. The bigger the objective lens the better the light gathering will be but some scopes are designed to gather as much light as possible, I have just bought a Swarovski Z6i 2-12x50 and it gathers light extremely well, another I can thing of off the top of my head is the Nikko Stirling Nighteater.
  14. For a private sale, then the best places are in the back of magazines like the Sporting Gun or Sporting Shooter or both. I have had success with these in the past and often get many, many replies. If youre going to spend that much on a second hand scope, then you should be looking at high mag, Swarovski or Zeiss. SS
  15. Nice going John. You must be getting dangerously low on those Hornady's by now. Regards SS
  16. It sounds like you have it all thought out. Both rifles look good(google'd them), if not a bit long but as long as you are comfortable with it, you could always Bi-pod it. The calibre is loud with and without a mod! but the good thing about putting a mod on it is the lack of muzzle flash at night so you can see the fox drop(and they will!). I'm sure you'll enjoy shooting the calibre and certainly has the stopping power, do you plan to reload? the Remington 50gr Accutips my buddy uses are something like £1 a round, bloody expensive balloons! Regards SS
  17. Not really on a cooking point, but just make sure you have permission from your council to shoot there or you could end up with no guns or allotments. If I shoot pigeon, I normally breast them and marinade them in some Olive Oil, then I line the inside of a flan tin with shortcrust pastry, flash fry the pigeon then put it in the tin add some sliced potato, half an onion or half a dozen shallots, some very reduced stock(beef stock is good, game stock is better),the stock needs to just about cover the pigeon. Cover the top of the pie with filo pastry and brush with beaten egg, pierce the centr
  18. Better to be safe than sorry with the law, You can still have pistols over there cant you? Hopefully it wont be too difficult for you to find out some information, the Wildlife and Countryside Act encompasses the EU Birds Directive and seen as the IofM is not part of the EU, it may well be different for you. Regards SS
  19. Good news jamie, Foxy will have to keep one eye over his shoulder with that beast, my lamping buddy has one and it is almost guaranteed one shot kill, they tear to shreds. Are you going to put a mod on it? And what are you planning on getting? Regards SS
  20. Sounds like a good nigth Mr L, Deker has his work cut out for him! Cheers SS
  21. He looks cracking sounder, sounds as if he good and confident. Cheers SS
  22. Nice and traditional names then. Plenty to choose from if it goes either way.
  23. Not another variety of the Americans. Even more fierce than the greys? Get rid of them before they increase. These really could spell the end for the Red if they can wipe out the Greys. SS
