  1. Depending on what the gun is prooved for, the chamber length and what steel cartridges you want to fire the answer will differ. If the gun has a steel shot proof mark and a three inch chamber, then it will shoot 3" high performance steel. The steel shot proof mark is the Fleur de Lis and a 3" proof mark will be 12x76mm. If the gun has neither of these marks and is 2 3/4" chambered then it will be able to fire standard 2 3/4" steel cartridges through no greater than half choke(recommended by most). All steel shot is protected all the way down the barrel by a thick wad to prevent barrel wear
  2. WILF is right, how much do people on here actually want to prove that they have killed. The majority of people who genuinely use this site will know when things dont add up. The pictures which are posted on this site are asking to be used by the anti's who will change them to show things in their favour. As we post this and continue to post pictures of sometimes dubious acts on here, the anti's could be preparing a case file for use against all aspects of our sport. Shouting F**K the Ban and then following it up with evidence to prove the ban is being ignored is just aiding them further.
  3. Yeah, I shoot a couple for different things, a Hammergun for the occasional pheasant shoot and my Baikal for vermin, i like shooting with both of them especially the Hammergun, A Westley Richards 12. Oh and a S/S Belgian .410. Cheers ss06
  4. Nice shooting sounder, the only good crow of any kind is a dead one. ss06
  5. There is a fair selection of 6.5x55 ammo about, they come in a few weights, I have seen 140, 150, 165 gr. The 25-06 has some smaller bullet weights from 70gr through to around 120gr It may be worth trying to find somewhere to try one if thats possible, testimony from others is all well and good but theres nothing like hands on experience. The .25-06 in my opinion is a nice little round which isnt used much and occupies a little niche in the market, sounds like a good fox round as well as being deer legal. Might be worth a look at the more obscure calibres depending on how available ammo is
  6. The police have special guidance and procedures to securing shotgun cabinets in unusual or difficult locations, these guidlines are normally used for those who live in Caravans as the cabinet needs to be secured to the chasis. Have a look at Basc.org.uk and look in the shooting section, this will give you the information and guidance which is issued to the police as regards this type of thing, the easiest is to secure it to an internal wall made of stone or brick. Give your firearms licensing department a ring and ask them your best course of action. As Ratman says, the best way to
  7. You will have a problem doing any better than a SAK for £30 on a HMR. You may just improve it by 1 or 2db at best but it will seriously cost you! Is the £30 sak proofed for use on .17 hmr?? because they are asking £60 plus at litts of newport, but these are marked--proofed for .17hmr. Just a thought, this could be a new topic Does a moderator have to be proof marked to be put on ticket?????? Cheers, Keith £60 in Litts! They dont normally rip off like that. You would have to look on the individual moderator to see whether it has been proofed for an in
  8. Do you have a 6.5x55 Swede, Deker, it seems to be very popular on here and it was used as far as I know for shooting in biathlon before the .22 r/f rule came in. Softer shooting than many deer calibres so im told and is chambered in a variety of rifles, the CZ 550 has a detachable magazine. The above could also be said of the .25-06, which i have fired, it recoils more than say a .243 but nowhere near as much as the .270. I know Tikka make a T3 Lite in this calibre.
  9. I saw my first swallow about two weeks ago when out with the gun. flew straight in front of me and sat on the telegraph wire.
  10. I think if my keeper caught them then the police wouldnt even be involved He's not the sort of man to involve the law when things get out of hand, he is perfectly capable and willing to sort it himself, i think of him as a victorian keeper born in the wrong age, but he'll do anything to keep the shoot going. Not the best image for shooting, but he is winding down now so i dont think he is all that concerned. Regards ss06 p.s everything said above is absolutely true of the police, take the easy way out.
  11. What length is the barrel now? Is it a 16" Varmint heavy barrel? I have one and have an ASE Ultra mod on it, i doubt you could get a T4 to fit as the barrel is so thick unless they make one to fit them. The ASE does everything i ask for, no muzzle flash at night, disperses the sound a bit, the .17 is supersonic so youll never get the noise down a lot.
  12. To be honest the only thing i grumble at where the Chinese are concerned is the amount of Lead they are using for cars, batteries etc when they have no cars to use the road, the increase in demand for Lead has made prices of shooting commodities skyrocket, this is a worry and grumble for anyone who clay shoots and who takes part in target shooting with factory ammo. They just seem to be stockpiling all the resources they can and starving the West of them. Just my little grumble. ss06
  13. Over the last fortnight on the shoot, we have had a number of distubances on one of our farms, these have included people shooting illegally at night and then trying to break, enter and steal farm equipment from the yard. It has confused me no end as the police will not give us clear details. I had a visit from two officers three days ago, as did my headkeeper as we are the two people who shoot there the most. The police asked me what shooting i performed on the ground and when, which was reasonable as well as if i had a .22 'Rifle' no mention of whether air or rimfire, or centrefire for th
  14. Fairly conlusive fishfish, I think i would add speed cameras and the police who act like tossers when they stop you with a lamp and gun, licenses dont seem to matter, your a criminal if theyve stopped you. One thing, why are gamekeepers on the list. Cheers ss06
  15. Not all Welsh Pubs are like that, its too close to England!LOL Someone else can have charlotte church, we dont want her, Katherine Jenkins though, different matter. I think singing has to be in the top three things. ss06 p.s yes, there are too many women with black eyes, should see Cardiff and Swansea on a Saturday night.
  16. And a very good cheese it is too, see we got something right. Caerphilly cheese, rugby and Gymanfa'r Ganu. Three things to sum up Wales.
  17. I have shot two Lanber Sporters a 28" and 26", both shot and pointed well, they would do you well at game and sporting clays(bit more tricky for trap). Even so, if i were you i would certainly have a good look at the second hand Berettas and the Browning/Winchester/Miroku family. You could pick up a bargain on a second hand gun, ending up with a better gun.
  18. Depending on how many you shoot in a session , then you could either bury them as mentioned or burn them, personally if i shoot a reasonable number in a session then, I normally use them as bait for foxes on my permissions, 2 or 3 in a carefully selected spot. On the largest of my permissions, which i shoot more than a thousand crows a year, it is a purely arable farm on which the farmer likes to see the odd fox and expecially birds of prey, so he asks me to leave them all in a pile for them. On other farms my prefered method is to burn them in a Rubbish bin style incinerator. ss06
  19. Well seen as i live in Swansea and there is bitter rivalry between us and the Bluebirds, I may join you moose, except ill be shooting not hunting.
  20. Wabbithunter, Sorry to put a bit of a dampner on things but by far and away the best method is to go in person to ask for permission, the landowner can then judge your character and integrity, it also gives you an opportunity to impress your values on him such as responsible, safe etc as well as an opportunity to show him your insurance details and firearms certificates. I am uneasy with the idea put forward by My Dogs Aguire, I wouldnt want an armed man on my land especially in Northern Ireland(no offence intended), people are understandable uneasy about guns over there with you. Just som
  21. As a previous post said, you would want the best ammo possible in that sort of situation so wouldnt you prefer to take your own with you, a brand that you trust and your rifle shoots well? The problem i can see with buying ammo in the chosen country is you dont know what brands they have and the rifle may not like them which may put you in a sticky situation. I believe you are allowed to take 50 rounds of sporting ammunition with you when you fly but you will need to ask your airline what their regulations are. This should give you piece of mind that the bullet is going exactly where you ar
  22. I realise that the people in the stands are passionate becuase they are soaking up the atmosphere and they are regulars who enjoy giving their team encouragement, i was thinking of the people who are sitting at home watching it and those who dont watch it at all. I think quite a few are disheatened with it unfortunately. I love the last night of the Proms, whenever i watch it, I think to myself "where else in the world do you see pomp and circumstance like this, with millions of people joining in, nowhere!". I end up singing to myself and i dont care what it sounds like. Roll on September.
  23. Well, that is where we differ and neither of us are likely to change. I think our anthem is so stirring and moving because it is loved and sung with a lot of passion by a lot of people. I get the feeling a lot of people in the UK feel GSTQ, is a little outdated and colonial but i still find it stirring, on the rare occasions i hear it played properly, e.g last night of the proms. Regards ss06 Cymru Am Byth, Nos Da
  24. I take it you know what you call a sheep tied to a lampost in Cardiff WILF? A leisure centre.
  25. Im just proud to be where I am mate, typical patriot i suppose, its why i think that a national anthem should be played when a national side plays no matter where it happens to be, we are two different countries after all. Its also why i agree that the English ought to have an anthem of their own to distinguish from God Save the Queen, which should be for the Whole of the UK when we play as one team. It doesnt bother me what the English anthem would be, we have ours and i can safely say the majority of Welsh people love it and stand by it. Oh and for the record im not anti English, just aga
