  1. If you want kits and youre up north i have some kits that ill happily give you when theyre ready
  2. As i said in a thread on here, is it possible for the admin to make a sticky thread of people who are willing to offer their vasectomised hobs services to bring other peoples jills out of season. It would be an extremely useful service for everyone on the site, simply stating the offer and area theyre in. Soon i will be having one of my hobs snipped and i would happily offer the his services out to anyone who needed it. Any thoughts people?
  3. Just a thought for the admin of this site, could we please have a vasectomised hobs services offer sticky page, as it would come in handy for a lot of people on here, as it is im going to get one of my hobs snipped soon but if i knew other people with one in the area that would have been my first course of action.
  4. I will have some kits soon, youre also welcome to a few, im sure i can knock you up some spun poly nets for you too if required. Dont give up the game due to c*nts like them!
  5. I dont think its a Hob/Jill decision, but rather knowing your ferrets and using them depending on their working habits and traits, generally i leave the house with 1 hob and two jills, i have two teams like this and like i say, its horses for courses
  6. thats something you should have asked the vet while there. No idea whether he will still be capable of bringing a jill out of season, you can try though
  7. Normally, in the past ive had the jills come into season a couple of weeks after the males, however this year the hobs came into season a month ago and the jills are showing no signs of coming into season yet. Got me wondering, anyone got jills in season now?
  8. Last month i was paunching some bunnies and found them pregnant, just a bit early on, went out the other day and one of the bunnies we gutted had nigh on full term babies in her. This season has been weird with its weather and they really are breeding all year round now!
  9. One of the first ferrets i ever had (and the best i had) was due to get her teeth pulled by her owner who also claimed she was vicious. I got her off him as i couldnt see it done and she was the sweetest, most intelligent little companion. Never bit me in her life
  10. As said, steel, fully welded. Tbh i didnt even know brass was an option
  11. Unfortunately not, ill check with my mate though, he should have a few about the right age. I'll pm you his details if he has any available
  12. I made this mistake early on, made about 30 nets which are emergency only now and if you're not quick enough they soon get through
  13. I always take between 3-4, 2 ferrets do most warrens fine, the other two are backups and also for when the first pair get tired
  14. If its only every now and then it could simply be the ferret itching its underside, they seem to enjoy doing it on carpets. If its persistent, take it to the vets, better safe than sorry
  15. some ferrets seem to work deeper than others, some have better focus on the rabbits, theres so many things it could be. Its always worth having a jill too, i personally like to have "teams" i have a jill that never goes too deep but another jill who does, and my hob is an all rounder, give it time and you will learn the ferrets behaviours, not only that you have to consider the chances of wild stoat and foxes in the area, numbers of any predators can wipe out rabbits in a certain area. It could be simple lack of knowledge of the hobs behalf, its always good to have a pro in with young ferrets.
  16. Well call me paranoid but anything that isnt 100% never gets fed to the animals, i just wont risk it. Me being me, id have the only ever case of tapeworms in ferrets. Thats my sort of luck. My babies are worth too much for that
  17. luckily, ive recently started wearing latex gloves when i prep the bunnies, just saves the smell getting on my hands. Safe to say i cleaned the cutting surface straight away then chucked the gloves straight in the bin too
  18. Just been googling it since you said and from what ive read that was definitely what it was!
  19. I was just in the shed prepping some bunnies and as i was cutting the saddlemeat of one of the bunnies (which appears in perfect condition and no damage of any kind) all of a sudden a cyst burst. Straight away i thought it was unusual as the cyst was so deep in the meat, i have seen cysts before but they tend to be much closer to the skin, so being unusual i pulled the meat apart to look inside the cyst, inside was what looked like several small white eggs. Safe to say i threw the rabbit straight in the bin, not risking my ferrets or me for anything. So my question is, has anyone seen this an
  20. Me and my mate go out ferreting together and every single time i try roll a fag rabbits bolt, its got to the point if nothing is bolting my mate insists i roll up! After a few days out hunting he turned to me and said "got good and bad news, bad news is by end of the season you'll have cancer, good news is i will have sh1t loads of rabs"
  21. Always remember there are no set rules when it comes to animals, you will be learning every dday for the rest of your life and will still encounter new things on a frequent basis 20 years down the line! Always remember to use your locator (and turn the collar on before you put the ferret in the hole...i made that mistake just the other day ) pay attention to how you set the nets, at first it can be tricky, in time it will come with ease. When you get permission, always have the farmers back, report lame animals, broken fencing etc. Always have a spare net on you, when a bunny bolts you need
  22. So whats your favourite method of eating the bunnies. I normally am a fan of the slowcooker, nice stew, or cooked in cider. I just tried one of those cook in the bag, in oven so maggi things tonight, herb mix tonight, chucked diced rabbit in and it came out delicious. Tomorrow im going to try a bbq one. So what is your favourite way of cooking it?
  23. they were stolen from darlington, county durham and ive heard of a lot of other animals getting nicked atm including dogs and birds of prey, just keep your eyes out
  24. I recently discovered a charity called the real junk food project, they intercept waste food and instead of going to landfill they cook it in their cafes, the cafes are a pay as you feel, meaning that you pay what you can, it means the cafes are supporting the poor and needy. I found it to be a great idea, but being as skint as i am i decided instead of donating money, i would donate some rabbits from one of my freezers. I took them in and they were very greatful, so now those rabbits which cost me nothing will go to feeding those in need. If you find you have more rabbits (or any game) t
  25. Just to let people know there are some animal thieves around, my mate just had a couple of ferrets stolen from his garden the other day. Keep an eye out and make sure everything is locked up!!!
