  1. thats good advice for anywhere in life PMSL
  2. simple answer is........yes. you can train a dog not to kill a ferret, my dog thinks the ferrets are higher up in the heirarchy than him, he moves out of the way for the ferrets and if a ferret starts to eat his food he will move away until they are finished. he will play with them but he often ends up on his back with the ferrets jumping on his stomach. he is as likely to bite them as he is to bite me!
  3. unfortunately i cant play it cool, i have a short fuse at the moments with xmas and various other things happening. problem with it being travellers is that ive had family fueds with them before and it aint fun but on the other hand i do know a couple of big lads from a different family of travellers which i could try and use to persuade the lads. im thinking if all else fails it'll be on with the balaclava's (i look like a member of the IRA in it ) and taking a few friends round. either way ill keep you informed, cheers ben
  4. In the last few days my partner has seen my old lurcher which was stolen a year a go. he was stolen when travellers came through the village, along with several other dogs, she has seen him just a couple of streets up from were i now live and she stopped the guy to ask for the time so she could start chatting with him, apparently he's a traveller which is staying in darlington for the xmas period only then he'll be moving on in a couple of weeks. my dog is easily recognisable but unfortunately he wasn't microchipped although i know the owner of both parents and also most of the siblings of my
  5. i also think stoats, had a stoat run down a warren i was working and rabbits and my ferrets bolted....ferrets wouldnt go back down afterwards!

    the ban

the government has cocked up big time on various topics which relate to hunting and i feel confident that it will no longer be enforceable in any way within 2 years. there is a lot going on behind closed doors at the moment which will mean the whole WCA is starting to fall apart. only time will tell though!
  7. what you trying to say mate.......... im that sad that id post a message at that time of night for the crack !! you cant even see on that pic the compound where i keep my dogs. It was took when we were out between 7.pm and 9.30pm when we went out and i also have terriers so to be honest neighbours are used to hearing dogs barking. Update today is you can see where they have been through neighbours garden and leant wood up the fence to climb over. We have reported it to police last night and been round somecamps looking for it, but it could be anywhere by now. really helpful pos
  8. unfortunately im away elsewhere this weekend but if theres invites for a later date id love to come along and have a laugh, cheers for the invite though as most ferreters can be tight gits
  9. ive heard that something was in the pipeline for years, so far nowts happened and if it does ill be sure to go to bristol and go into defra and smack the f*ck out the people responsible. its been ok for thousands of years, how can it be wrong because of few ignorant people not understanding.
  10. i always take what i need plus another 1/3 of what i need to account for unforseen circumstances cos knowing my luck if it can go wrong it will and when it does go wrong it goes proper tits up, i dont do things by halfs
  11. i go with this method, dogs dont have revenge in them luckily, i feel its the safest way especially if you get the dog when its still young, i did it and now me lurcher and ferrets are willing to play with each other but he knows what will scare them and make them attack so he's pretty careful which is comical since he's bloody clumsy. also used this method with my old falcon, steady as a rock, bought in a friends young setters and one by one let the falcon just pinch them on their nozzle....worked a treat although the key to all animals is to never leave them alone together. cant be too safe
  12. i've got one, theyre good little rifles, theirs a few little drawbacks, one thing is that with my scope on top i need nimble fingers to load it up and when your fingers are half frozen it can become an annoyance. another is they aint too strong when they come out the box, although with a bit of digging around you can find places that have tuning kits if you need it. one place is t.r.robb: 01268 752888 ask for the ProTuning Kit & Video on tuning, servicing for £50. but as i sau apart from their little flaws they are a cracking little rifle and great fun to use. ive had more fun with mine th
  13. rabbit liver should help, all the goodness in it should give the poor mite a boost
  14. this years looking more promising for a good hard frost compared to the last couple o years here. getting pretty cold at night, hopefully we'll have a frost soon....dreading another year without a frost to knock the cover back.

    nylon nets

you must be taking the p1ss, how the hell do they work, ive had rabbits hit nets that have snagged and not closed and the rabbit ran straight through it, flung the net outa the way! cant see how theyd work with no drawcord
  16. even honeybrook are a rip off, they go for £20 for 1500 at the hatcheries! (i think cant remember of the top of me head but its around that)
  17. if its their first time they wont know exactly what to do, after a couple of times theyll soon get the idea the rabbits are further down, just give them a chance to get into the swing of it...doubt itll be a problem long.

    nylon nets

i cant see it working properly, i think it could swivel and stop the net closing properly, plus im a follower of the old adage 'if it aint broke dont fix it!' normal rings have done good enough for centuries!
  19. i used to use a lot of day old chicks for them as i always had them in stock, although i warn you not to use honeybrook chicks as the condition of them can be appalling, i would suggest getting in touch with a hatchery and getting them from there, theyre a lot fresher and also much cheaper!
  20. the way i was taught to tame ferrets was to hold it in me left hand and lick my right hands knuckles, they love the taste of saliva, move it towards your knuckles and if it goes to bite then flick its nose, if it licks it soon realises that that not biting is better than biting, once it doesnt bite your knuckles start licking your palm and let him lick there too, soon he'll be more interested in licking you than biting you and i know which one i prefer. there are countless ways of training a ferret but i think your looking into the whole domination and ambushing thing too much, my ferrets pla
  21. how can you call people like me a hypocrite? i do not hunt out of season, to do so only gives the anti's more ammo, i do not condone anyone hunting out of season and not only for legal reasons but also out of respect for the quarry. plus ignorance makes it worse, the fact theyre going out hunting without even knowing about what theyre hunting! f*k me next they'l be putting up trophy shots of a barn owl they shot! So its ok for mb to break the law but not these 2 lads come on which is worse? they ve both broken the law but one is praised and the others crucified Y.I.S Leeview i praise
  22. how can you call people like me a hypocrite? i do not hunt out of season, to do so only gives the anti's more ammo, i do not condone anyone hunting out of season and not only for legal reasons but also out of respect for the quarry. plus ignorance makes it worse, the fact theyre going out hunting without even knowing about what theyre hunting! f*k me next they'l be putting up trophy shots of a barn owl they shot!
  23. theyre lagamorphs, main point here is this only gives the anti's a sh*t load more ammo! its risky the whole sport and it dont matter if theyre only a week out of season THEYRE STILL OUT OF SEASON! hopefully the landowner will remove all rights to these lads, many of us on here constantly try to put the best image of our sports forward as they are all at enough risk as it is without pr*ts breaking the law and bragging. as for rabbit season, its only a voluntary season and done mainly to conserve our sport and give the rabbits a break, hunting can and is done all year round but during summer it
  24. errrrmmm...generally a rabbit warren and some nets... no training necessary for ferrets, although if you want you can always give them some piping to run about in.
  25. myxamitosis is a disease, was natural to our rabbits american counterparts the cottontails which only gave them a minor illness, someone brought it over here and released it to our rabbits on purpose and the results of it are devastating, its passed in a variety of ways and in the 50's destroyed the idea of eating rabbit which had for a long time been the staple meat of the uk (which is now chicken i believe) it kills the animal slowly, robbing it of its senses and causes pain and suffering, the rabbits eyes go all gooey, the anus and genitals can become swollen, the rabbits muscle rots away,
