  1. Went out yesterday to a new permission, it is 240 acres of rabbit laden land. . Only problem being a lot of it is in hedgerow Not such a problem in itself but i do enjoy a good dig now and again but the hedgrow makes it nigh on impossible. Anyway, there is also a long nettle cover bank, that is full of holes so we decided to try that, after a lot of stamping and cutting down of nettles, we uncovered the first burrow, sent in the hob and jill and straight away could hear the thumping of the rabbits, next thing, bang, bang, bang 3 in 3 nets one after the other The ferrets still seemed kee
  2. They can live together most of the year with no problems, but you may find they fight when they come into season, around about may-august. If you get them castrated they should be fine all year, and as far as i know, it wont affect their working potential
  3. Hard to tell at this time of year, one day it's hot another it's cold, I would say generaly though 2 days would be max, I'd only leave it 24hrs max. Why not chop it in half and feed em half a day?
  4. Yea, I'd like to know if they are watching me too, cause I was out ferreting today and I spoke to a fella who's girlfriends brothers ex girlfriend used to go out with a guy who's best mate is a member on here and he said I'm being watched too. So Mods if you would like to pm everyone and let us know who is and who isn't being watched it would be much appreciated.
  5. You don't NEED to have a locator to go ferreting, but it is a superb piece of kit to have when the situation arises that it is needed, as Para said, you are going to be more likely to lose a ferret if you don't use a collar. I know that people say ferreting has been done long before locators were around, but eating was being done long before ovens were around, just because it can be done doesn't mean it is the best way to go. And another plus is that you will inevitably get more rabbits, as you will be able to dig the ones out that have been killed underground. You'll make your own
  6. I gut them in the field, and any for the pot get skined when I get back, the rest for the ferrets get put in the freezer with head and skin on as that is how they are fed to the ferrets.
  7. Dog looks great, too many people have an unwanted opinion when they know nothing, bet if you saw the person who commented on your dog, they will own a barrel of lard labrador or some such.
  8. Fair play to the fella, that was impressive.
  9. Yep, i'd go with Stealthy, probably the battery.
  10. To cut a long story short, i split up with my missus about 3 months ago for a while, but got back together, when i came back my best hunting ferret was missing, she said he escaped accidently, of course i was well pissed off. I asked at the rspca, vets, and people i know around where i live, to no avail, anyway, i was in the pub tonight talking to the landlord, that wants to come out onmy permission with me one day, and showed him some footage of the ferret at work on my phone, the barmaid came over to have a look, and when she saw the ferret, she said " oh, i found one like that about two a
  11. So, i went to a Northern wedding last week, of course true to form, all hell broke loose. Anyway, when it ended up in court, the best man said to the judge please let me explain what happened. "ok" says the judge " Well i am the brides brother, and the best man, At northern weddings it is traditional for the best man to have first dance with the bride" "Go on" says the judge. "Well there i was dancing with the bride when the groom came running over and kicked the bride right in the C**t" "Flipping Eck" says the judge, " I bet that hurt". "Bloody right it did, Broke

  13. You " took them out with a shotgun" Do you mean the local yobs?
  14. Sheepland!!, so that is why my ferrets are always getting ticks, i also work sheepland, never really put two and two together though. I use a tick puller, never had any problems so far, but where can you get frontline? is it only available from the vets on prescription?
  15. Sound like a good few hours out, it aint all about the amount of rabbits, it's the enjoyment. Well done.
  16. You may have a problem getting your jrt used to ferrets at 18 months, although not impossible. perserverence and firmness will probably be the key. My Border can be a bit funny with my ferts sometimes when they are in the garden, it starts off as a play thing but gets rougher, and she was bought up with ferrets, But when we are out working she doesn't bat an eyelid at the ferrets, Too keen to grab a rabbit i think, lol
  17. REALLY? WOW!!!, Does it have a camera as well.
  18. Well after a bit of rain to soften the ground a little, i thought it was about time to start getting the ferrets used to being out, i only have one left from last year, Anyway, i only had a couple of hours spare this morning but figured that was enough to start them off. Dragged my brother along on his first time Rabbiting too!! First bury we got to, was a dead simple two holer, the dog wasn't showing much interest, but, hell, it only takes a couple of mins to set the nets, in goes this years jill, and ............................... Nothing! i really need to trust the dogs instincts
  19. I paid £100 for my mark 3 finder with collar, then another 40 for a mk3m collar. Just out of interest, why did you buy the mk1?
  20. We have 2,, aged five and 16 and we don't hibernate ours, but they live in vivariums, pretty much all year, except when we have some real nice weather.
  21. I thought an African Grey had eaten you as I have not noticed you around, good to have you back I hope the food was ok for you and I hope you have learnt your lesson Well thankyou for your concern Mr Harry, I haven't been about much because iv'e been doing that thing that Northern guys find terrifying, WORK!! Someones gotta subsidise the benifits system.
  22. Why do you want an african grey Ian? They are noisy messy, temperamental, shit everywhere, don't always talk, sususceptible to plucking and need fairly constant attention. BUT, I love mine. Because they are also Funny, entertaining and er!!!! noisey, messy, temperamental shit everywhere, don't always talk, susceptible to plucking and need fairley constant attention In all seriousness, they can be a great pet, the congo African Grey is more suseptable to plucking, but there is also a Timneh African Grey (That i have) that has a more even temprement, although not quite
  23. Well done Andy and Mrs, sounds like a good start, and a good write up too.
