If you have a Grey box or,a Mk11 or MK111 the collars will be transmitting all the time the batteries are in and therefore using power .Take your batteries out of the collar after every use , wipe em over with a soft cloth and they'll last a lot longer . Even with the MK111M collar which can be switched off it is advisable to take the batteries out if its not going to be used for a while .This also removes any nagging doubts about it being accidently left switched- on. Any condensation ,dirt or moisture can cause these batteries to leak power and even cause corrosion of the terminals .

Inan is right . How can you write about the same limited subject week after week and find something significantly new to say? .I have a copy of CW from about 12 years ago .With a change of date it could be re-published next week and I don't think anyone would notice . I doubt that many of the puppies advertised in the classifieds are still for sale though. Field sports articles are like Robin Hood films or Westerns -once someone has seen one or two they know the basic plots of just about every other film of the same genres . Occasionally someone approaches what might otherwise

Grass lol, i am with you mate as you know i am looking to get into the pest control industry. i have on different courses and learning from others, but taking it 1 step at a time. it shocked me to see the number of people on some of these corses that where already trading as a pest controler. with no or very little training, they had no insurance and whernt a registerd company. i have spent about £800 on training to date mostly 1 or 2 day courses and have another £650 to go for my RSPH/BPCA - Level 2 Certificate too many cowboys around in most trades, so why let them get away with it -

Apparently if you actually see or know that the dog has eaten poison you have a window when simply making it vomit-up the poison will do the job. I doubt you'd actually be able to get vit k in the right strength or formulation to make any difference as a n antidote without a prescription . My vet was pretty good and the bill Is'nt a big one but I won't be the one paying it ! Thanks for everyones kind thoughts . -
The 1600's were real wizzy machines . Mine did nearly 200,000 miles on the original engine .She was smoking like a two stroke by then though . The bodywork was no way up to biscuit tin quality though . You must have had a good one ! The estate version was very popular off road choice with keepers on the South Downs which says something for them !

I know how you feel . I've always thought it unprofessional to run-down other people in the same trade . Better to stand by your own reputation than than debase someone else's . I have a comfort zone of knowledge, training and experience of my own and If someone asks me to step out of it I'll happily recommend another more specialist operator rather than take risks . Twice in the last year though I've had to be a "grass" in an effort to distance myself from some shoddy work. Once was when I was culling squirrels for a health authority and I came across some exposed rat bait on site whe -

Thank you so much Matt. . I've spoken to the house holders and they paid for someone to do the job . It's a bit awkward as they are my parents neighbours (which is extra annoying as I would have done the job for them at a very friendly rate ). I'm all a bit numb about at the moment . Daisy seems to have perked up so fingers crossed . Thanks for the good wishes . -
Perfect advice Matt . Please Plucker take note . We all like to try to save abit of cash and feel capable of having a go ourselves but the very fact thatyou are asking for advice indicates that you don't understand what you are dealing with. I used to get a bit up in arms everytime I heard someone suggest that certain pest control products should not be available to the public . I'd liken it to not being allowed to buy a saw unless you were a proper carpenter . Over the last few years though I've concluded that a lot of products really should'nt be

As you may guess from the title of this post I'm very upset at the moment . A few mornings ago I woke to find that my lovely eight month old lurcher pup had snuck into the bedroom and somehow clambered unoticed onto the bed . The bed was also covered with patches of blood . Blood was also appearing from around one of the pup's teeth . My first thought was that a bone splinter had injured her but soon realised that there was no wound . She was also in some distress. No time for DIY wisdom and remedies . Straight to the vet who looked at the dog ,asked about recent behaviour chang

i to would like to know the out come as i use to work for a firm called kestrel pest control and we had the contract with the highways agency on the m4,m3,A303,A3,A34,A27,M27 etc and we use to do a hell of alot of ferreting on these embankments when farmers complain to the highways we use to respond to the callout, if the warrens were on either side of the fence the cost was split. Bearing the mind the amount of courses i had to go on and all the red tape we had to go through was unbelivable. Also on every job TM (traffic managment) had to be in place. so i would assume joe bloggs would not be

according to my missus rabbits can breed all year round as a menstruel cycle lasts for 28-30 days so in theory thats a litter a month. atb ryan123 Tis true.In commercial rabbiteries does can be mated as soon as they have given birth which means that they are pregnant whilst feeding a litter .If not mated imediatly though the doe does'nt come in season untill the litter is weaned at about a month . Light does bring the doe into breeding condition but too much light can actually take a buck out of condition . This means that there is often a few weeks in the hight of summer when

One of the first foxes I snared was a silver- tipped black and a few weeks later I was out with a Keeper from next door when we saw the "shadow "of a fox in the lamp . Took a few seconds to realise it was a black fox . This one turned out to be properly melanistic. It was posssible they were from the same litter. I had the skins from both for a while until the boss shut the farm collie in the Shooting lodge overnight and he chewed them up . Wierdest coloured fox I've seen was a sort of sandy merle . Not unlike a Cape Hunting dog . It was seen once coming out the side of a pheasant Drive

Ha Over the years I've kept and raised all sorts of things in my garden but the only complaints I've had were about the noise a brood of bantam- reared keets made . I think the poor neighbour felt a bit guilty when I told her the next day that I'd given them away. What she did'nt realise was that I'd just about had enough of their racket too !

When the ground is too muddy for my prize Sri Lankan elephant to venture forth I used to forego ferreting until a few frosts had hardened things up enough to get the Seppala -strain sled dogs out. They were the days . Team after team of grinning juks straining in the traces ,hauling load after load of purse-nets and reels of long-netting right up to the best ferreting ground .Weeks later the same teams would carry ton upon ton of rabbit carcases from the tundra of the Sussex Downs to the sheltered Ouse and Cuckmere river valleys where traders would dicker over the price before loadin

Breeding closely related stock is asking for trouble in the long run because not just every good quality but every bad quality will become exagerated. Its easy to see a fine built animal and appreciate its tameness and superb hunting ability whilst fogetting that genetics also affect every other aspect of its brain and body . Not just the bits you can see. Who was that footballer ?. Fit ,handsome young fellow . Turned out he had a hole in the heart ,probably genetic . Did'nt show from the outside . Spose he'd married his sister . Twice as likely that the kids would have

Anyone who's been keeping up with the news will probably be aware that the Farm Watch sceme in Sussex has being doing overtime lately . Before anyone says something like, "The cops should be after real criminals not bothering lads with lurchers " I'll just say that this is not what this post is about . It's not an oppertunity for a rant it is just a blooming good true story that has really made my poor mates Christmas . A couple of months ago a friend -tree surgeon by trade - had his trailer stolen after the farm gates had been pulled off their hinges . It had a clamp and chai

Great sentiments . Whatever some of us feel about the war does'nt change the fact that there are men and women from this country stuck far from home . Most people with friends and family in the forces know about the "Blueys" that can be sent to troops on active service. For those who don't, they are simply blue( surprise surprise)open envelopes that you write a letter or maybe get the kids to draw a picture on then fold and seal. Simply address it to your chosen recipient using their name ,number and overseas posting address and pop it in a post box. The Blueys are availabl

Just thought I'd post this one again so that Runfor his life could acuse me of being a fraud again . So .This is my little dog jumping over a gate with a rabbit in her mouth.Nothing really outstanding about that . Most folks lurchers are capable of the same I'd guess so quite why I'd bother to fake the picture I don't really know. Ok so the bun was slightly myxi but it was alive and yes I sharpened it up with my edit thingy but Runfor trust me it happened Unfortunatly the boll*cks you accused me of has sat on this site for all to see for over a month without me noticing

Nothing wrong with rehoming a dog somewhere where it will actually be welcome and loved despite its percieved shortcomings .One man's meat is another's poison and all that . The problem is that so many people expect instant success just because they have bought the trendy cross of the moment . The one that everyone says is the bee's knees and that all other kinds of lurcher are just not up to it. How often have we heard something like , "I had a saluki x whatever but it was cr*p so I swapped it for a beddie x grey x bull [bANNED TEXT] my mate was gettin rid of ". These ge

It's been said but even if you rely on wood it is well work getting a bag or two of coal just to keep it ticking over at night or when you go out. There always seems to be point of no return when big ,hard logs -despite having cheerfully smouldered all night- just refuse to perk-up in the morning when you open the vents .

100% right and I know what type I would rather be feeding. If I buy a puppy and he is not up to the job I bought him for when he gets older, should I have to keep this dog for his whole life time? No! I bought him as a working dog and if he dont work what good is he to me?? And before everyone blames the owner for the dog not working right, that is the true in some cases but not all. I definately wouldnt keep a working dog that wasnt up to his job out of sentiment, if you have a dog that is a good worker and a pet then alls well and good, but at the end of the day if you want a worker i

Believe it or not I made a phone call and have actually spoken to a human. This lead me to also sending an E-mail .Nothing like belt and braces . Either way I am now awaiting some sort of clarification from the Highways Agency. Remember ,whatever answer they come back with it will only apply to motorway banks . Most trunk road verges remain in private hands or under the control of local councils. If I do get a response I shall pass it on .
