  1. Spot on that. I used to try hammering pups with commands, obedience etc. Now my approach is completely different. I just treat them like pets. Play and fun walks. Get them out in all different scenarios and scents when you are fun to be around the recall sorts itself out. As for sit my daughter has taught all my dogs that with left overs from her plate. Lol
  2. Thanks fella appreciate that. She didn't look quite as well turned out at the end of the walk. We had to crash through some tight cover when I lost my bearings and her jumper was full of thorns and nettle spikes so she had to wear my tshirt. I got some funny looks walking back to the car with no top on in October ?
  3. My daughter has been away for a week with her mum and only got back yesterday. Obviously she was dying to get out with the dogs so it was a bonus when the busher gave us a mark and crashed into a piece of cover, lurchers on standby, rabbit out and scooped up by the brindle bitch. She was chuffed...
  4. That pretty much covers mine. Got a big one in the motor and smaller one I keep in my bag when lamping.
  5. Manuka honey definitely works. I've not had any wounds that big but used it loads of times with good success.
  6. Nice pics mate and a nice little pack of runners.
  7. I would correct her but yeh she will calm down and ferrets are pretty tough. You're best correcting the pup before the ferret does though.
  8. Single handed they aren't too bad. They aren't shake and kill merchants. They are happy to retrieve alive. But if the 2 of them get something in cover together then it's game over. I imagine they would be good on teeth if it was legal.
  9. Looks a nice strong pup that mate. Be good to see how he levels out.
  10. Yeh she's a lump NL. 45lb. She was part trained at most things. Recall, retrieve, jumping, entering cover. Just needed bringing on a bit.
  11. She worked her little socks off today. Must have knocked 5 bunnys up out of tight cover. Runners were unlucky not to get to grips with one but that's how it goes. Good fun watching them hunting the woods... Busher took a bit of stick around her eyes today...
  12. Yeh she's bang on ferreting mate. Great with ferrets and reliable marker. I am sold then mate cracking dog. Could taking shooting and all sorts. I guess the bull slows the cocker down a bit because my pet one has only gone one speed and thats a run lol even at 10 Nah mate the bull ain't slowed her down. She runs everywhere at full speed and doesn't know what walk or rest is. Lol. She can shift aswell. She nearly caught a rabbit in the open the other day. She just couldn't stick with it on the turn but was up its arse on the straights. Was something to see. Lol.
  13. I'm not sure boring is a word I would to describe the plummer I had but each to their own ? Mine screamed like a banshee in cover on rabbit or fox and was never yappy otherwise. Silent in the kennel or when travelling. You must have seen some shit plummers mate. But I agree for the bushing game purpose bred mutt is the way to go.
  14. Yeh she's bang on ferreting mate. Great with ferrets and reliable marker.
  15. Yeh it's swings and roundabouts. I wasted a lot of time waiting for the plummer to thoroughly check every nook and cranny. Even when the lurchers weren't marking I would let her do her thing. But it was good to watch her work so left her to it. We can cover more ground with these bull cockers in the same time. My brindle bitch has got a very good nose so I trust her 100%. If she walks past then it's empty. If she marks then something is at home. She hasn't let me down yet. Hoping this busher going the same way.
  16. She quarters fields and woods like a spaniel. Doesn't go too far and keeps coming to within about 10 yards as if to say "is this okay what I'm doing?" before carrying on. My plummer went into every bit of cover wherever you were. Whereas this bull cocker will walk past 20 thick bushes or bramble patches without even looking at them which concerned me at first but I've come to learn she knows there's nothing at home. If there's something home she smashes through regardless how tight it is. Really surprised me given her size. The brother is the same. They're still young yet but will see
  17. Cheers mate I'm happy with her so far. She's bushed a few bits and bobs. Taking her on a mates shoot at Xmas to do some beating and picking up.
  18. She's 15-16 months Nothernlite and Lurcherlad. Got her waiting on command too but still hit and miss when I throw the dummy. She just wants to go. But we will get there. She goes left and right on hand signals and I'm working on the stop with a whistle. Not really needed for bushing but nice to have a bit of control and good stimulation for her. Jok must of been a bad pic of ferrets you seen. They are fat as butter. Rabbit, pheasant, hare or duck everyday...
  19. Been doing a bit of retrieve work with the busher today, thought I would share the videos... Water... Woodland... Cover... Then finished off with a spot of jumping...
  20. I wouldn't keep a dog what couldn't catch a bolting rabbit, useless fecker ???
  21. I would get him to the vets mate. Could be injured.
