  1. Nice write up and pics, they either have it or they dont, I have one of last years thats a waste of time think it will be getting given away as a pet.
  2. I feed mine on woodies, all the feathers make a great nest for them and very warm too.
  3. Good luck mate hope you get it back, what a pain when the batts go.
  4. Well was planning another trip this morning, the snow was pretty bad last night, looked bad this morning but all the main roads were clear. Unfortunately my mates from Sheffield who were coming down had a worse snow fall and couldn't get down. I finished up just taking the terriers out for a jaunt and checked my snares on the field behind my house, at least I got a couple of bunnies. The dogs marked almost all the holes so they were all down and would have been a good day for ferreting. Never mind they will save for the next journey.
  5. My mate breeds jet black ones that look like mink.
  6. by the way well done, the land looks great for ferreting.
  7. When I was younger I did a lot of poaching, yes really but I was very good at it, not proud of it now but that was in the past. I often went with mates on some of the big estates in and around sheffield/derbyshire areas and never got caught except one day when one of the lads was smoking. The keeper was ok considering and he said that it was that what gave us away, he smelt the smoke from 200 yards away, he also told us that rabbits would be reluctant to bolt if they smelt or heard anything out of the ordinary. I now can believe that after a lot more years of experience and we have a policy of
  8. Yep mate they would sooner see who is behinbd the letter, they are more willing to let you on if they see your sensible and have manners. Take any references from existing farms so they can see it, thats always cute, afterall they are letting you free on their land with a shooter, you could be a nutter as far as they are aware.
  9. I love the fact that we can all communicate from all over, it's great that we can share our experiences and stories. One thing thats strange is the different names ferrets are called all around the country, stinkies, ferts etc we call ours monkies wonder how many different names they are called.............stick them on and lets see.
  10. We are lucky mate, I have some good land to go on, it was hard work getting it but worth the effort, never give up is my motto.
  11. How do people go on when they have no outdoor interests, sitting in front of the telly on an xbox and going brain dead. I cant understand the kids of today, when I was a kid I just wanted to get outdoors, even if it was just walking the dogs in the woods. What will they be like when they get to my age HHHHmmmm about 50 ish.......... I feel for those guys who cant get out because of disabilities when they have always been active outdoors, hope it never happens to me.
  12. Another season ferreting, looking forward to getting out with the lads and nailing some bunnies.

  13. Head strong is an understatement Steve,I got a 13month old Patt I want to use for ferreting, but isnt showing much intrest in any holes, but if she see`s a rabbit or fox above ground she chokes herself trying to get at them, and will chase. Also,Im having to keep her on a lead most of the time as now, shes takin to fecking off and hunting up on her own,and recall can be a bit slack. The ferret training has also un-done since she got a little nip,she just wants to pin and bite them now. Do you think she will come good once she clicks the bunnys pop out around her when she stays near? Doin my nut
  14. Well we were hoping to finish off where we left off last week but there was a shoot today so we had to make a quick change to our plans. Ray put in an appearance today too so there were 4 again, me stevo steve and ray, I thought we should try a bit of land that I had not done for almost 2 years, some at Metheringham and some at Coleby close on. Firstly I had to call at a lake and shoot a few ducks, I managed to get off 4 shots and dropped 4 mallards so that was a good start. We had a look around the lake where its been riddled with rabbits all year but unfortunately there was still far too m
  15. My Patts are awesome marking dogs and will put rabbits to ground from the rough, but be prepared as they are head strong and take some training. You may find a border/patt will be more suited if you dont have the time to train them for (years) as it seems. The patts are excellent dogs but again they are just killing machines and if they get hold of a rabbit you may as well just use it for ferret food if you can get it off them. One other thing they will go to ground without encouragement if they can fit or dig the holes so a locator may be of use when out in the field.
  16. yes it was bloody hard going today, my backs killing. fab write up mate, looking forward to next time :-) Cant wait myself mate see you soon, give me a bell early next week.
  17. Well the shooting season is into full swing and there are a few days we cant go ferreting now, but we managed to get a few hours in this morning. Stevo, Steve and Jamie came down from Sheffield for another bash, not far for me to travel though, we did the hedgerow across the road on Nocton estate and Howards farm. I watch the rabbits out of the bedroom window and walk the dogs up there every day so know there's plenty up there. We did this bit last year and had some excellent bags but they soon re-populate, it also keeps the mixy away thinning them out. All the way up it was heavy going, cr
  18. Yes mate we had them in the van but never took them, our mistake and lesson learned.
  19. "we dont mind digging" seems Danny likes to do it all LOL Y.I.S Leeview Well young and fit what else would we expect, I always do my fair share of digging and we all want the glory of breaking through.
  20. And yes Stevo (middle) has got his eyes closed praying to the diggers god
  21. Well another session, me Stevo, Ray and Danny ventured out to a bit of land I have near sleaford, it was very heavy cover and I really expected to miss more bolt holes than we netted. Having a good start gave us plenty of confidence and after the first 2 sets we had a clean sheet with no unexpected escapees. The 3rd and 4th we were lucky when grass covered bolt holes we missed had rabbits bolted only to go back down netted holes, hmmm lucky or what. When we got the the railway side "Ray and Danny" did manage to miss a couple but Danny made up for it on some awesome digs, and a fantastic dive
