Hi some of the ones we do have 100 plus holes, its a daunting task but we tend to run the ferrets through netting in roll over fashion, we then get a few bolt at the end. We use at least 4 ferrets and just hope they dont kill in, its a risk you take. Spades at the ready and all that, I dont mind the odd dig its part and parcel of the game but 8 foot digs are a bit of a mare, we had a ferret go out of range on a 15 foot box last week for a good hour. Another thing is make sure you get a good marking dog its pointless spending all that time netting for ziltch.

Reckon we could have done many more in the wood but the lads had to get back to Sheffield.
-
I didn't do it on my own, here are the lads, Stevo, Ray and Shaun, good grafters too.

Well I thought I would have hung up the nets a few weeks ago but my mates cant get enough. We had another day out and had some good fortune. Having just aquired Nocton Farms for my ferreting we went on there for another bash. We firstly did a hegerow that was pretty easy as hedgerows go, just a few digs to half growns but the rest were big fat ones. The odd dig was in the field away from the hedges so were really easy, the rest were only 12-18 inches. In a 50yd stretch we had 28 so decided to leave the rest to re-populate for later in the year. We then moved on to a small wood that looked pre

Dont use fens for rabbits mate its just a waste of meat unless your using them for ferret food. Get a ferret, snare or shoot them.

First outing on Pigeons
stevethefish replied to Treacle Trackpad's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Hi, use as many deeks as you have and keep adding, use angel wing on some of the shot birds and experiment with patterns. Main pattern for me is horseshoe with rotary in front about 25-35 yards from hide which is set against a hedgerow whenever possible with wind from behind. I never have a roof it limits the swing and amount of birds you can shoot. Keep absolutely still and head down until the birds are within range, only then lift the gun to shoulder and shoot. Pigeons will see the whites of your eyes, hands, and anything you dont want them to see and it will spook them unless they are havin -
Where have all the pigeons gone,,,,,,,,,,,
stevethefish replied to Dumpling's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
They are still around mate but pigeons travel huge distances sometimes. I have had it when thousands are hammering the crops week in and week out and then the just dissappear without a trace. You dont really want these huge flocks anyway they spook to easily and you finish up waiting ages for them to return after your first shot. In a couple of weeks you should see them start to return ready for mating, they will be in smaller flocks and will be more willing to drop in for a chat. At the moment there are thousands around here and have been all winter, they have been a tw@t to shoot on the rap -
Yes you can through the smoke of burning cars, with the sweet smell of burning rubber and sound of the police sirens, makes me wonder why I left really.

mine get them sometimes when I get them in the fen traps on the garden, (live in the sticks surrounded by fields) they will eat them ok but will leave the tails. Just wash your hands well when you have picked them up, ferrets will eat anything, I cant believe some say theirs are veggies and wont eat meat.

No mate its not the place, its some of the arseholes that inhabit it, I would like to name some names, thieving scum, but I will sit cross legged and take a deep breath and humm. I have lots of good friends there and 2 of my oldest kids and grandkids live there, so don't take it personally if you live there.

I agree, sometimes you have to carry on, most farmers see rabbits like some see rats, dirty verim that are cutting down their profits and desroying banks and dykes. Some of the farms I go on the warrens are out in the fields, a sprayer got stuck last year when the ground collapsed, a lot of expensive machinery at the mercy of those lovelly, furry, cute, sweet bunnies.

stevethefish replied to silkmen's topic in Fresh & Salt Water Fishing
A feature for angling times produced a couple of big fish in the good net full, these are a couple. -

They are not as good obviously but for a young un these are ok and cheap. http://www.dragoncarpdirect.com/products/%22Modulite%22-6-%252b-1-Seat-Box.html I told a friend about them he bought one and was very happy with it. Reckon we will have some good bags next season, I have just got loads more land to go at and its not been done for years. I can walk out of my door and be ferreting within a few seconds, I watch the rabbits out of my bedroom window grazing in the fields. Its a bit different from when I lived in Sheffield, all I saw there were twockers and cars getting burned out on the school field.

My mates from Sheffield asked me if they could come down for a last fling at some rabbits on a couple of the large farms I do pest control on, so I thought why not. We started off in a small wooded area where I bolted 6 rabbits from a 6 holer last week and took about 8 or so from 2 warrens. We then moved on to a hedgerow that has needed doing for a while and took quite a few and only lost about 4 from hidden bolt holes. Amazingly we only encountered young in 2 of the warrens, unfortunate but the farmers/keepers need me to thin them out as they are a real problem around here. We had the old bi

I would settle for the old white notes, they are worth a fortune now. That would be a VERY nice day out ferreting to find a load of cash stuffed down a hole, but knowing my luck it would either be fake s**t or old notes from years ago which can no longer be used

That could have been nasty, you always are the criminal untill they know otherwise
-
Quite an arsenal the rabiits have then, they might be planning to overtake us.
-
Some really nice dogs there, the patt is an awesome dog my 2 are good out and good house dogs too.
-
Lets stick to the ferrets now, less of the private lives. :bye: :whistling: :whistling:

Sign of the times, too much on tv thats the problem. Have they been watching dancing on ice?

Ooops, that may be classed as politically incorrect, sorry to anyone who wears a turban who is not a terrorist.

Wondered why the rabbits had turbans on
