  1. Bring em on young and give em some hard graft, if they take to it they will ferret for life.
  2. Well we had a later start today with it being sunday and we would be ferreting around the landowners house. We were ferreting around a irrigation lake where the rabbits were doing a bit of damage on surrounding fields. The first couple of sets were not too bad just a bit heavy on the cover but LOADS of holes, we only took 60 purse nets thinking there would be enough, WRONG!!!! I had made a prediction that morning I stuck my head out and said 50 today lads, yeah right was the reply, but wait and see I said. As we dropped the first ferrets in they started bolting immediately, we didnt get time
  3. We have had mixy around here for the last 3 years, we lost loads but it seems to be cleared up now with just the odd one that has recovered with the obvious scars. It is still over run with them in areas though, we are still getting 30+ on most sessions, I reccied a place this morning the keeper wants me to hit. I was amazed at the size of the warrens and the amount of rabbit damage in the area, my patts marked so many holes it must be heaving with them. We will find out tomorrow, it may be hard work as they all seem to have in excess of 60 holes and could possibly be interconnected, the long
  4. Hi mate good pics and result looks like you had a good time. Some think you are not allowed to feret roadside verges, but if you have permission from the adjoining landowner that is fine, just for the sceptical ones!
  5. Ha ha! he always finds something to do when theres some digging to be done, he was gutted when we left him digging that 4 footer the other day. I dont mind it, better digging than sat waiting for hours, I would get bored like Ray then.
  6. Yes mate tape worm eggs I would bin it personally, cant imaging having to pull a 5 foot tape worm out of my ring piece. I know cooking kills them but its just the thought, or on the other hand dont wash it and give it to someone you dont like.........only kidding. Did you see the worm in the intestine? you usually get a watery yellowish liquid in with them.
  7. Good advice from doddsy mate, make sure you cover up and keep totally still, pigeons have awesome eyesight. Try making a makeshift hide from tree branches and anything you can find during the day ready for the afternoon, just make sure you know where they are roosting though, usually the tallest trees or some thicker patches.
  8. Thanks guys, I am hoping to do a dvd on our exploits sometime, any ideas of what the content should be would be welcome.
  9. We are spoilt around here I guess, its all on my doorstep and crawling with rabbits. The only thing is it can get quite noisy, this one was pretty high today they weren't coming in to land just training. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl8Yzbq4uIA
  10. Tilly enjoys the day out, Stevo will be gutted when she has pups so will we, she works hard for us, well guess she wont be mothering too long. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPPDC85eiGM
  11. Ha ha ! we made an effort this time, we are not miserable really, its a laugh a minute all day with us.
  12. Always use collars, if the ferret kills or hold the rabbits for more than 5 minutes the spades are out. We do it for pest control to get rid of rabbits for keepers and farmers so waiting is not an option for us. Can you imagine what the farmer would say if we were sat drinking tea talking for 2 hours in the same spot, not seeming to be doing anything? If you do it just for a few bunnies now and again or just for something to do for a couple of hours fine! if you came out with us you would have no hesitation about using the collars. We dig to save time, sitting drinking tea waiting will not r
  13. Hi John were you from, we have had mixy around here for a few years but they still coming strong and recovered well. nice one lads im glad your having a good bit of sport iv had one of the worst seasons ever the best weve had this year is 25 wich is good but its been hard
  14. Well we had another session on Nelstrops farm today, we planned to carry on where we left off the other day on the old sets on a dense hedgerow. It started really bad for us, not only were the rabbits totally reluctant to bolt they were very deep. We had our first dig within 10 minutes of arriving, I know some dont like using locators but the truth of the matter is they are invaluble on sets like these. The average depth of the rabbits was just over 5 foot and with so many holes it needed plenty of ferrets introducing, we opted for 6. The first kill was about 3 and a half foot deep under the h
  15. Whats it like on fuel mate? looks awesome.
  16. Well someone said that we should all smile on the pics, how is this then, any improvement?
  17. Think you got a problem, on some of my land I shoot I have AWAC's flying over, landing and taking off all the time they are only 50 feet high when they pass over just dropping onto the runway at RAF Waddington, they do scare the birds and even the ear defenders dont stop the noise plus the airwash from the engines blow the deeks away. Filmed this one today while ferreting, we were a bit further away and it was higher than where I shoot pigeons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl8Yzbq4uIA
  18. Hoping to get plenty of vids done when my new sdhc card arrives for my camera, the old one is f**ked, lesson learned dont buy what you think are cheap good quality sdhc cards, they dont exist, just crap cheap chinese copies that dont work right.
  19. A big black and white thing with a long nose!
  20. Thats a novelty, bet they dont see them every time. Sounds like a grass snake or maybe an adder, lucky escape.
  21. Its a pain when the ferrets refuse to come out when you have recovered the rabbits after a dig, sometimes squeeling them out works, it worked today eventually.
  22. Steady day with some hard digging involved, I will alter the images on the next pic wait and see!!! Should have had a lot more though mate, that digging cost us loads, plus some bad netting and searching.
