    Is that the old MK1 Vulcan Geordie?Had the MK2,loads of gear with it,duck,pheasant,Pigeon(feral and woodies)collared dove,Rabbit,rat,few hares,even had a woodcock once Was it the mk1 or 2 that never had a safety catch .Shot loads of squirrels with mine .Now use a webley axsor .22

Until you have had a day on several hundred rats you probably think ratting is small time but a day on the rats where they are swarming is as good a tester of any dog.As good as a reasonable dig anyway.     which breeders ?     The word is recessive genes.-What I understand this to mean is -Somewhere in the gene there is the chromasome for a deformity.Breed a recessive gene to a dominant gene and the dominant overrides the deformity.Breed 2 recessive genes together eg merles ,silvers and the deformities will show in their offspring -1generation later.

    I average between 100-200 a year so I can comment on this Peg.I suppose Im lucky in having a place to insinerate them .Nothing pisses the public off more than dead foxes in the countryside{around us anyway}. WhitbyWich-Thought there were some guidlines in place for you hard working wire checkers about disposing of carcasses. Just because I go lamping in a short skirt and stockings does not make me a tart you bitch. :kiss:

    We do a chicken farm and it seems to be the worst year ever for rats {I mean heaving}. Our best tally is 603 .Fair play to you Bandit.Are there any organic ,movable sheds on your ground.?Was it from a couple of permanent sheds they were cleaning out ? Foxdropper.

    IMO its best to get a youngster out on its own .Older dogs may teach the pup that rat is fair game but may also put the pup off with bad habits like jealousy, barking or eating rats .I like to work the pup at its own pace and hopefully produce an individual and not a shy pup that lets an older dog pinch its kill.
