  1. personally Id rather have a days mink hunting.
  2. Pickaxe and Mik-Regardless of the fours and against tail docking ,I would not like to see yet another liberty taken away -enforced upon us.Personal choice is eroded every day in this excuse for a democracy,so let the breeder decide I say .Terriers look hideous with arched tails in my opinion.
  3. DONT LET ANY VET TALK YOU INTO DOCKING A DOG WHEN ITS OLDER .loads of problems with healing . The art of docking tails is not a mistery.Any terriermen worthy of the name will dock his own pups and I suspect the same applies to the gundog breeds.
  4. What i want to know is will they work week in week out to fox and stay to be dug to like other breeds or has this been largely bred out of them .Not knocking other forms of terrier work I just want to know. Dont be shy ,say it as it is.YES OR NO .
  5. Good for you .The question is do plumbers make good earth dogs ,if given the chance,or are they too special to be worked in this way ?.After all, they are still terriers. Did the geat man breed away from earth going stock to create the best ratting dog alive or has the JRT influence ensured there is still the desire to do battle underground? ps not a dig at anyone ,if you pardon the pun.
  6. Several years ago I owned a cracking lurcher,grey/collie to a whippet/lakeland.She was mustard on the roe but hadnt seen any bigger deer until one night I picked out a fallow buck and doe ,feeding alongside a river.I was up on a bank overlooking this and decided the time was right for her introduction.Slipped the dog and was concerned to see the buck stand its ground and thrash its antlers .The doe was off but the dog decided the buck was her target. We were a bit near a private estate  and so rather than let the dog make any noise ,I decided to lend a hand there and then .I was beside
  7. Just a thought -Would it be the same with no laws to break?Adrenaline would be a thing of the past.
  8. You kill that fecker as soon as poss mate .It will find a way to lift the bar otherwise and be gone.
  9. Personally I believe the dog fox plays no part in the rearing of cubs.
  10. It is not the dogs fault if shallow digs are the norm.A stayer ,in my book anyway is one that keeps the quarry where the dig was started and does not allow the quarry to push past .Time is irelevent to this terrier as it knows what it has to do.
  11. All seems a lot of work for not much gain .Throw them back to fight another day.
  12. Seen a couple of silvers but not gold!
  13. Dogs are carnivores, and do not need vegetable matter or carbohydrates of any kind. Stick to fresh raw food and you're laughing. Not entirely true mate -dogs need to obtain vits and minerals from green stuff and deprived of this they will gorge on grass ,given the opportunity.Rest of your post spot on.
  14. IMHO a dog is a stayer if it stays until dug to -any depth any length of time. Some shallow places can take a while to dig around us and the opposite also applies -some sand holes of 7foot can be reached in under an hour .The main thing with any terrier is that it does whats asked of it ,no messing ,no popping out for a breather .Also to be a purist ,only one hole should need to be dug .Many times I have seen lads put a dog in then its on with the box after a couple of yips .A hole is started only to hear the fight move elsewhere. This is down to impatients mostly and not a shit dog.Let the dog
  15. Searching for cubs is very frustrating mate ,especially if thier not big enough to be out and about.I have found them in places with little sign of there being there and in so tight that no terier can get there.Only thing for it then is to gas Im afraid.
  16. Mate, the shovel is the sort widely used by groundworkers as the shaft is a none electric conductor.
  17. BOW RANGE -You lucky sod .Get yourself up a tree before you call.Never try to call a fox that is looking at you .They never respond and it only serves to educate him that the call is part of you .
  18. Darcy only pays a pound a shot mind?
  19. The trouble lies in the very fact that one persons world beater is anothers waste of kennel space.A group of lads into a bit of hunting may bolt 10 foxes a year and dig 5 and believe they have decent dogs. When it comes to breeding a litter ,these lads will rarely look outside thier local gene pool for a sire. The terriers they breed are very much a gamble to buy but are advertised as 100 % earth dogs?.Personally I would not buy a terrier from anyone that I had not seen both parents work and to a standard I like .A second rate bitch CAN be improved by better stock over her but this is the long w
  20. Got to agree mate .Ive seen some really bad bites from rat but Ive also had some cracking days out too.
  21. dead animals dont bother me.pics of dead couple of month old cubs with 2 more in a cage with dogs straining to get at them a foot away ,with the owner boasting about dogs performance is crap .my dog got 6 foxes and 4 are cubs that prob just coming out of earth.if you got a prob with foxes and are dealing with them you not gonna rear 2 more are you. :realmad: if you have a livestock killer you deal with it quietly and dont flash it on websites for antis to use stating where they found it.at the end of the day you either respect the wildlife /countryside or you go out and kill everything your ch

  23. Ive spoken about the greyhound before and was overwelmingly proved wrong but this time Im right . A GOOD quality greyhound is a joy to be out with. They are mostly of the size ideal for taking any quarry,24-27inches.Ive seen some real nailers on fox and good meat providers on the deer.In small fields at night ,they can be very efficient lampers of anything.Until youve worked the real thing then dont knock it .
