  1. Yep and a hide and a selection of calls .Pack of sandwiches and a flask.Daybreak is the best time .Set up every and anything you shoot as the more critters on the kill ,the better for luring in a corvid .Good luck mate .
  2. The leg was a fresh clean break ,origin unknown mate . Martin-different place mate .
  3. Depends on the quality of the ploughing John .Charlie can run a furrow and be lost from veiw .Cheers for the concern mate .
  4. Good to hear mate .Nothing worse than having had a good outing, then the sour taste of [literally ]of not being able to get shot of the spoils .Result .
  5. In the past weve had some real cheeky digs ,wearing flourescent jackets no less .We dug up a road on a country lane ,one night ,years ago and thats still talked about now as the road keeps settling Nowadays i think twice as the hassle can far outway any pleaure ,trust me .
  6. Out last night on my usual Tuesday lamping session .Took Josh off the site with his lurcher as backup ,should i wound a fox .The place we were last night is a dairy farm that has had problems in the past with foxes chewing on newborn calves .This has stopped but recently ,the farmer has seen a 3 legged fox around the buildings and doesnt want a reocurance .Walked most of the land without so much as a flicker ,then found a fox in a plough field .He was at a fair range ,maybe 300 yds .Squeaked and he came forward a bit but very clumsey on the newly ploughed field .Obviously the one as he had
  7. Iamduvern -mate you are right ,saves a lot of hassle in the long run and its only a phone call .
  8. To anyone who works ,enters their own terriers ,this is the worst scenario .Seen a few dogs start well but take to digging and baying at feck all to pass the time .Too many short digs causes this IMO.
  9. Welcome mate .Oxford eh ,the home of the fallow deer and a good population of fox too .Hope you get that .223 .
  10. Had the tikka a while mate ,with a t8 on the end .
  11. What youve all lost sight of is the fact that a digging dog is the ONLY terrier worth breeding from .ANY terrier will bush ,given the chance but the best go a lot better and stay 'till dug to .Regardless of what your preferences are ,the terrier that i know and want is one that is happiest underground.Got no problem with anyone using a terrier soley for bushing as long as that person dosnt think he /she has a first class example of the breed and try to pass it off as such .True terriermen dont rant and rave about the digging game for nothing ,it is THE test of a terrier .
  12. Out with the lamp around a chicken farm that i do.Squeaked in 3 foxes at once from a cold call but only one was committed so to speak .He raced up the beam to within 20 yards but unfortunately he was smack bang infront the farm house and so had to let him go back a bit .He wandered to the left and i knew he was about to get my wind so i took him on the run or trot as it were .The shot was into the ground by then luckily and he died on the spot .Saw plenty of deer which pleased me as i have time off soon Found he had a bob tail which may or may not be the one seen on a neighbouring farm as a

  14. Good going Shell.Good to see a mix of dogs too .One for every occasion .Well done you and the team .
  15. Nice one mate.Always good to get amonst them.
  16. Wont mention the tally so far as it seems to be a sore point at the moment .
  17. You are getting over excited.... and I talk of England...... 50 is not a big score and it is not boasting ..it is called Vermin Control and is required by many landowners......and many of them also want to know the numbers so you have to keep score!! You seem to be talking/suggesting sport, you and many others seem to get confused with sport and control! There is a big difference!!! Vermin controllers do not spoil anything for anyone..it is a job required of the countryside, just like ploughing the fields, harvesting, etc!! You simply have to work around it!!! It sounds t
  18. Had a call late last night about a fox that has taken to pheasant poults in a big way .Maybe upwards of 25 poults found scattered about with heads off near a pen .The keeper was up until 12.30 with the electric squeaker on constantly but tiredness forced him to bed .I woke up and straight out at 2.20 am and walked through the wood to where charlie has been causing a nuisance .A light was left on in a shed ,for me to see where i was to head for .My prefered method was to get out and lamp the area which hopefully has done the job .I spotted a fox on the side of a patch of rushes ,one squeak an
  19. .................................What annoys me ,as a controller of foxes ,is the dog lads that run foxes for fun with second rate dogs that have no hope at all and then consequently make that fox lamp shy for the rifle . You see, it is a circle that happens everywhere .Only those willing to put in the hours will get a good tally and Foxy is one of those lads that do the hours .Nothing wrong with keeping score as it gives you some idea of whether your doing a constant control job or whether you need to step it up on last years performance .If you are trying to control foxes with the use of a
  20. As someone who works dogs ,both terriers and lurchers and shoots aswell ,i can comment fairly on this .There is a world of difference in killing a fox for sport or carrying out all year round control .We hammer the population around us but there is always the same the following year ,if not more .For a dogman to say theres no skill in lamping with a rifle , then they surely havent done any which puts them in no position to comment in the first place .All methods have a place but the gun is what keeps the population in check .This government has had a big part to play in shaping what is now t
  21. Rats in number ,cant beat it .Second only to that purist of sports ..................................digging .
