  3. Tuesday evening saw me finish work earlier than usual to get down to Martins in daylight for an evenings stalk.Martin decided on a plce that ive been before ,several times ,and where he shot the strange malform earlier in the season .The ground lends itself to stalking perfectly as the hedges are hazel which overhangs the fields nicely to walk beneath without creating a silouette .There is a natural bowl here that the deer love on warm evenings but to night they were out in the pasture,4 all told ,a young yeld doe ,a doe and twins and a buck that was annoyed by the twins attention it seemed as
  4. Years ago when i were a lad ,we used to do a place that was heaving and i mean heaving ,the grass was like a bowling green and this was the farmers mowing grass .We relentlessly did it every Friday night with dog and .22 but never made an indent .My lurcher at the time was a terrier cross long dog ,a stamina machine if ever there was one .One night we tured up with dog and gun and started a circuit as we always did but that night was different .The wind was strong enough to prevent my mate from holding the .22 steady so the dog ran everything .Squatters were aplenty and these she nailed i

  13. Same old ,same old ,not your ground so dosnt affect you .Stick to what you know and let others do their thing .Its different for areas where theres a lot of hares ,they are a pest and need controlling plus theres a pound or two to sell them .Get off your high horse and get real .

  15. A look out last night on two regular patches and a result off each .First farm is a dairy place ,the farmers wife does a few rare breed chickens for showing and of course the fox control is ongoing .Tried the water meadow at the bottem of his ground first and saw the familiar orange eyes of charlie at extreme range .I squeaked and it came running .We saw it leap a ditch and scramble over some sheep netting .You could say it was committed I was down on the 'pod and shot it at about 6o yds ,a rangey, looking youngster .Did the whole farm but saw only hares ,loads of them . Onto another place

  18. Phone call from a farmer to say that there was a lame fox about and could i come to sort it out as well as any more that might be seen.Hes trying to set up a bit of a shoot so fox control is high in the list of priorities .First fox seen was on the lower ground by the river and it came screaming in so fast i had to shout at it to stop ,a cub ,but it was the last time it would do anything as i shot it freehand at 30yds approx .The next one was near his cubicle shed and was a cautious animal ,obviously interested in my squeaking but not enough to commit to travelling any closer .We walked to wit
