    Courtesey of Martin again. Drove the 20 or so miles to Martins and from there to some of his excellent ground.First place is where Martin shot the freak head a while ago .Glassed a buck lead down but unfortunately the wind was all over the place here and the buck plus a doe unseen were up and away before we had chance to stalk in .Martin had a call with the buttalo ,not for roe as the ruts well over here but for any munties around the scrub land which this area abounds with .A muntie buck barked straight away and was moving in ,unseen behind a hedge .We expected it to appear at the junction

    If the doe is dead ,the kid will stay with whatever will put up with it .There was a roe kid last year that lost its mum on a nearby estate , and attached itself to a fallow doe,only parting when the roe rut came along as it was a buck .

    Not knocking your judgement mate but the state of the animal you described is not that of a RECENT rta .The insides would be still bleeding ,the belly blue and a graze mark of some sort externally.What you described is an old injury or simply old age.But that aside he was a truly magnificant beast .

    With pressure on deer at dawn and dust then daytime is a very viable time mate.The deer on my ground are active 24/7as i dont pressure them at any one time .Roll on the doe season i say

    Probably the last calling session of the rut,and what better than to spend it on someone elses ground Went down to Martins Wednesday and on to a piece of his ground near Keynsham,a cracking bit of ground with popular stands in blocks.Rides cut through makes for good stalking .Stalked up to a corn field ,careful not to bump the doe feeding in a gateway near us .Got into position and called .Martin was the other side of a hedge to me .The doe feeding near us came running in and only calmed down when her two kids appeared at her side .A very good buck trotted along a tramline at the wood edge b

    An old boss of mine ,when things wernt going according to plan would say "dont worry ,ive f****d up bigger jobs than this boy" When pressed for time on a job ,if anyone said "yes but Rome wasnt built in a day "he would reply " maybe not,but i wasnt on that job "

    Good post mate .Correct carcass handling /treatment is second only to shot placement.With dealers insisting more and more on head/neck shots i cant help thinking there will be more walking wounded though .Only my veiw ,just lucky that the my dealer excepts all clean carcasses however shot .

    Down south its been the best ever rut on my records .Best for me that is not the bucks .c Called 17 so far ,shot 12.One more week of peak action and thats it for me.
