  3. what a load of bollocks. mute dogs where nigh on useless. and rarely lasted long. and the only reason they are tolerated today is the fact that they can be found fast and then got to before they expire. and thinking back to when terrier work was an art form is not fantasizing its remembering the good times had with good company and good dogs. and when i was younger it was the same as today one dog in then locate it and dig it out. the only difference i see is it was harder to find the terrier so a little more was needed from man and dog.and a good voice being one of the main requirements. it w

  8. Years ago ,trust me nobody put a single dog in places you would today .Earths were trenched to find a dog in a deepish place and sometimes ruined. Its very nice to fantasise and reminise about the good old days but lets face it, today with the collars we have now ,one dog ,one hole is the hoped for result however deep .Yes the collar does allow the use of mute dogs but all mute dogs ive come across are mute for a reason ,a mouthful of charlie.
  9. Worker to worker is not enough to perpetrate what i look for in a working terrier .To breed from a dog just because it stays is not enough to keep things right long term .Im talking about the breeding of any old terrier that makes the grade just because it stays.Such dogs of unknown breeding are bred every year with unknown results. There will always be a worker amongst a litter bred this way but only good for the short term and soon fizzles out ,leaving the owner to talk of days and dogs gone by and not the here and now .Terrier men that breed consistently good litters ,and there are many abou
  10. From my point of view there is nothing unethical about cage trapping cats in the garden .Most creatures will not return to the scene of a bad experience once released. The bought deterants have limited use as curiosity gets the better in the end .Cats, either tame or feral are the absolute easiest animal to trap with a suitable cage ,prebait and you have him.Combine this with a traumatic release and you wont see it again ,ever .
  11. Its all very well the rest of you talking about breeding from the finest specimen from mankind but the thought of all those blonde women queueing up for me is tiring enough at my age .I need sustinence not punishment.

  15. Took Hywel out for a stalk Sunday afternoon to try for a follower .He arrived as planned at 2pm and we drove to a place of mine that i was certain would fulfill the need.Stalked into the wind and towards the left of the permission as i knew from experience that the wind would be slightly different over the top .Got to the tast field on the top and saw a buck and doe lead down over the hedge. They saw us too and were up and gone, not that i would of taken the doe this late in the season with a buck in tow .Anyway to cut a long story short we stalked the whole 800 acres plus without seeing anothe

  20. The farmer had lost 12 up til then and i pulled seven from the earth ,most unrecognisable due to the efforts of the cubs and sand .Unavoidable this time of year .
  21. We've had 4 calls so far and accounted for them with the rifle but no doubt there will be more .Last year was bad with us made to look silly on new permission until we dropped on a tiny place just outside the farmers garden! We had one also last year where i retrieved a few dead lambs out the mouth of the hole before digging.
