    Shooting one summers evening with the .22 and mate back ended a rabbit which struggled to thge hedge .I ran in to get it same time as a badger came out to grab it .For a second or two we had a tug of war but he realised hius mistake and was gone .I put it down to this was the field we generally did the cleaning in at the end of the session .

    Cheaper the box ,less the depth it picks up but still fine for most terrier work .

    Don't like approaching staffies either .Walking terriers this afternoon and a women with a handy looking staff coming other way .All off lead .Pup runs up to it and hackles go up on staff ,pups mum running in so time to gather all up as she's feisty at best .4 terriers on staffy not good .

    In my youth i used to get about with a few lads who used to double all the time and one thing I remember was that on the breakthrough it was always same dog up with quarry ,how substandard can it get for the rest to be behind every time.That dog up front wouldn't stay solo though without the back up .Some pro terrier men were notorious for it years ago and no doubt it still happens today for reasons they try to justify .Says way more about the man if he sees his terriers as individual masters of their game and accepts only the real deal ,single handed workers that stay til dug to ,whatever the

    The last few replies to your question are about what lads prefer nowadays but doesn't answer your question about who strives to breed or keep a type that is the same as the same type many, many years ago.IMO only a few men can honestly put their hands on their hearts and say they do and those men are a few Jack Russell breeders and a few Fell breeders.     What has been apparent over the years is lads not keeping so many .In our hay day (f**k me feeling old )we had 11 workers between two of us ,with always something to dig to .Havnt seen kennels full of terriers for years ,not workers anyway .Back then we had a hard ,rough type that needed the rest but I've leant towards a more versatile type in recent years .Saying that ,the bitch took a right pasting few weeks back but stayed to it, more the quarry being of a hard type.What I have learnt over the years is that there are dogs that want the aggro and create their own time off and there are those
