  1. Must tell this true story regarding crossword clues........! Many years ago a sitting in the pub and the landlord was doing the crossword as he always did and leaning on the bar. He would always shout out the clues he couldn't get in the hope that someone knew the answer........ Well............the clue was....."Nearly a swear word that holds water"........! Quick as a flash a bloke in the bar said "Bucket" The correct answer was Dam.............still laugh about it to this day Rolfe.
  2. could be an otter ditch, ive seen them regular out on stones in the rivers . My first impression was Otter spraint.....due to what appears to be fish scales and bones. Rolfe.
  3. Most dogs will jump for the sheer fun of it............treat it as a game and start them off low........and gradually build up the height. Don't push a young dog too hard too soon..........as muscles that are not fully developed can sometimes get damaged if coming down from a height. Rolfe.
  4. On the golf course where i have the pest control contract........it cost the club £120.00 a time to re-sharpen and re-set the gang mower blades after running across molehills containing unearthed stones. Since i have been in charge of mole clearance........this hasn't had to be done Rolfe.
  5. She's just over two years old mate.......and a superb bitch that jumps like a dream. Rolfe.
  6. Yes well done bill mate...........i can only imagine what her parents must be going through. Rolfe.
  7. Very similar to my lamping bitch......mines 3/4 bred.......plus a splash of beddie somewhere they tell me. Rolfe.
  8. I have always kept beddie/whippet types as ferreting and net dogs.......they are perfect for that role. If you are after bigger quarry then you must adjust the size and type of your dog requirements accordingly. Rolfe.
  9. If it stinks to high heaven Ditch then it's a mink scat.............otter spraint has a quite pleasant odour. Rolfe.
  10. I always charge an hourly rate.....this is by far and away the fairest option for all concerned. Rolfe.
  11. Ditch.......if it has fish bones in it which it looks like, and if you're brave enough to smell it it will smell like jasmine tea....quite pleasant in fact.............it may be otter spraint.
  12. Soil from mole hills picked up in the silage making process can lead to fermentation of the stored product that MAY lead to listeria in sheep which in turn MAY cause them to abort lambs. Rolfe.
  13. Nice pictures Lass.........well done. Rolfe.
  14. Yes pigeons always land into the wind........hence with the wind at your back the birds are comming front on into your pattern. Most shots can then be taken straight in front of you above the decoy pattern. It's not always possible to get the wind at your back though, so sometimes you have to set up the decoys to the left or right of your hide and to shoot them as crossers. My nearest decoys i set about 25 yrds out and then the furthest no more than about 40 yrds.......this can vary though depending on the wind direction. Most shots will be taken around the 30 yrd mark. If you have the decoys
  15. i CAN HONESTLY SAY I HAVE NEVER YET FOUND ONE AFTER BROCK HAS TAKEN THEM, I ALWAYS JOKE WITH THE CUSTOMERS THAT IF YOU OPENED UP A BADGER SET YOU WOULD FIND MOLE TRAPS ON THE MANTLE PIECE AS ORNAMENTS. oops sorry about the shouting, cant be arsed to retype. Well on one of my contracts i found 3 duffus traps in a single day outside a huge sett in a sandy bank. It had over 20 holes scattered over a wide area. Strange thing was........although i had lost duffus traps........none of those i found were mine. But they are now Rolfe.
  16. Try to position your hide with your back to the wind where possible, this means you can have the deeks facing you. If you set them out in a rough U or V shape, the incomming pigeons will have a clear place to land at the point or front edge of your pattern. This way you can drop pigeons in the same "Kill" area most of the time, which helps when picking up later. Rolfe.
  17. Well believe it or not i lost my first Talpex trap to old brock yesterday...........plenty of prints around the trap site to identify the cuprit..........searched the immediete area but no signs of the trap. If there is a sett nearby i often check these as often old traps get unearthed as brock refurbishes his home. This is only the second trap i have lost this year to badger predation. Rolfe.
  18. Yes.........nice to see the boxes fitted at the same time as the new rabbit-proof fencing. To many people tend to fix them in place as an afterthought..........well done. Correctly sited on existing rabbit runs (old entry points) they will account for many rabbits that use that route. Rolfe.
  19. There has been talk of introducing a numbering system for Larsen for ages, but as yet, as far as i'm aware, there is NO legal requirement to do so. Rolfe.
  20. www.killgerm.com This is where i would start to to investigate training etc. in your area. Rolfe.
  21. Thanks Moley.......i'll give him a call..........Regards........Rolfe.
  22. Oh ye of little faith........... If you look closely at the picture you will see a breeze block wall on the right hand side. The nest was in a sand storage bunker on the golf course where i have the pest control contract. It was under a coil of plastic land drain pipes in the corner, and she had dug through a short length of sand to make her stop. Hence no soil in the nest as the nest was perfectly exposed when lifting the pipes my lurcher had marked.........it's a wonder anyone bothers to post pictures at all really Rolfe.
  23. Haven't got a phone number Moley have you? Rolfe. Which one Rolfe, i do not have the Bristol one but i could find the Helston one if you wanted it. yes mate that would be cool.........pm me it if you like.........thanks
  24. Definately biting Ditch.............i had a fenn double entry with a squirrel damaged the same as yours.........pair of pliers and some patience soon had it working again.
