Thanks for the kind words Tracey.........Just need to re-stock up on the Chinese style marinade powder nearly run out.........how you fixed Trace. Regards Rolfe.x

Tracey.......Make sure you don't go for a long walk off a short pier.......especially after your newly acquired taste for strong cider. Have a great time with the family.........and sit and with your feet in the water and chill.......only not from the pier........your legs aren't long enough. Regards Rolfe.x

Lass.......glad you really enjoyed your stay........Traceyg is going for counselling as we speak and the pyschiatrist say's she should expect to make a full recovery in the fullness of time. The landords from the pubs you visited have withdrawn their applications for transfer on the understanding you never return to the premises again. Glad you got home ok.........and you enjoyed your stay. Regards Rolfe

Plenty to keep you going rolfe. Is that you first or last name ? My last name is rolfe and i know that this spelling is quite unusual. Marky r, rabbit meat is full of protein but not much in the way of carbs. Have read stories from years ago from people dying from malnutrition during the gold rush whilst eating mainly rabbit. Neither.........it's taken from Frederick Rolfe.........the king of the Norfolk poachers........made famous in the book "I Walked by Night".........Check the family history you may be related

2 Hours

I have just spent the last 2 hours dressing out last nights haul of bunnies that were shot with the rimfire. Personally every rabbit I shoot is never wasted, they end up as ferret, dog, or food for myself depending on the state of the carcase. Take a look at the pictures and see how a pile of bunnies turns into a convenient food source. The good meat I strip off the bones and freeze for my own consumption.........there is about 20-30lb of chopped rabbit meat in that picture......and that will make me many curries, stews, and pies in the coming months. The bones that have the meat removed are e

Thanks for all the replies folks......Yes Woodga.......I would think I average about 100 rabbits a week with the rimfire on my contracts and I would be lost without it really........ as not all the land lends itself to snaring or cage trapping. Some weeks I shoot 300+ but others i may be lucky if I get 50 if the weather is bad. SS.......you had to see Stork to believe it........standing in the doorway of my fourtrak peering over the hedge, and the keepers fixing the red filter on his eyes.........then when he heard them squeaking.........I said it's time to move I think.......or you'll want a

Dunno.......never counted them. A lot we couldn't pick up as they had kicked themselves down the holes, but one that kicked itself deep underground.....suddenly shot out of a hole like an exocet missle......and promptly lay dead as a doornail on the grass....now that i did find quite amusing. Rolfe.

Went out last night for an Hour with Stork from the THL with the rimmy around my golf course contract. As the surrounding fields had just been cut i knew the rabbits would be sitting out and slightly confused as to where the cover had gone that they had been hiding in for so long. Apart from Stork nearly getting squeaked in by the keepers out foxing on the stubble......and being lit up by the red filter lamp.........and nearly 243'd through his hat it was a good night. Just that i find the Rimfire the most versatile tool in my pest control armoury. Rolfe.

Thanks for all the replies guys and gals.......TM he's Beddie/Whippet.....with just a touch of Greyhound. Best all round net and rabbit dog I have ever owned.....Such an intelligent dog. Rolfe.

I was driving past one of the farms i have permission on and noticed the harvester was just on the last couple of cuts. I had the lurcher with me, so I jumped out of the van and hoped the dog might get a few runs. He knows the harvest game like the back of his paw now.........this being the start of his third season. He was soon watching the wheat for signs of movement......then he carefully positioned himself where he thought the rabbit would bolt. It is a dangerous game at times when using a lurcher around a combine........so unless the dog is well trained it is best to keep a dog on a lead

Well when the Tartan Terror finally appears Tracey.........offer her a can and a cake and see what she goes for first. It's been a while since you had a bun in the oven i bet Tracey. Regards Rolfe.x

Tess..........I just wonder what a claustrophobic ferret would be like as a worker.......if it has a fear of enclosed spaces? At least it should leave the buries pretty quickly Regards Rolfe.x

HG.....You are not alone with those types of feelings .............often I sit all alone at night and contemplate where my life is going and how things might have been different, and sometimes I sit for hours just gazing up at the stars and think......." I must get the roof fixed on this outside shithouse" Rolfe.

Might have known that twat "Odd Billie" would be there.......spouting to his his bunny hugging mates. Didn't know Rory was a twitcher though........you live and learn. I understand that the LACS had a stand there as well.....so just as well I didn't go Those wooden bird carvings are something else though Tracey......... A good few hours work has gone into those, some of the old wooden carved duck decoys are worth an absolute fortune if you can find some quality ones. Glad the kids enjoyed it though.......and I think you have a budding photographer there........really nice pictures. Well d

Yes i have seen it many times........all the fatty tissue and membrane are a vivid yellow colour.......i am not sure what causes it though........because all the rabbits from the same area are usually quite normal. It would be interesting to find out what does cause it, maybe someone has an idea.....i don't think is is caused by what they have been feeding on though. Rolfe.

For those of us who are old enough to remember the "Penlee Lifeboat Disaster" and the sinking of the Solomon Browne, it is an absolute disgrace that those guys should have to face disciplinary action for trying to save lives. These guys risk their lives for us........and as in the Penlee incident........often GIVE their lives trying to help others. Last year whilst on holiday in Cornwall i made a point of visiting the old lifeboat station just outside Mousehole and laid some flowers in remembrance of these brave men.......And that's from someone who lives as far from the sea as you can get.

Been picking plenty of field mushrooms already.........but Puff Balls thickly sliced and fried in bacon fat are superb.

John I would doubt a mink.......or several mink even......could reduce the rabbit population so dramatically in such a short period of time. On several of my contracts I trap mink on a regular basis and have not noticed any huge reduction in the rabbit population. Unless there has been an outbreak of some disease (mixy or HD) then human intervention is the most likely cause. Is it possible someone could have ferreted, snared, or even gassed the area......I wonder? Regards Rolfe.

Well looks like me and you Lass.........hope you don't snore Rolfe.x

How could you .......you wicked women you. Just look at poor Molly's face Bet they aint as pleased with their new accomodation as you are.....Mind you........Lasses face will look similar when she peeks out after a night on the cider. Regards Rolfe.x

Nice pictures Woodga.......I have a railway embankment that is riddled with rabbits to do as soon as the stock is off the field. Last time I snared it i put 250 wires out along its half mile length, in three nights I took 187 rabbits off the field, and old Charlie had his share too. Nice to see you make the point that it makes little difference if the wires are dull or shiny bright.....they are all the same colour after dark Thats a nice bag of bunnies anyway by any standards well done to you both. Regards Rolfe.
