  1. Live cage trapping is the answer........not snaring or ferreting......that way you can be reasonably sure you are getting undamaged rabbits........But as someone else asked.........Why do you need to re-locate them?......surely you are creating a problem elsewhere...... even if you were successful in introducing them to another area.
  2. Either an Imbra or a Juby i would think you are talking about Fathom.......they are no longer made but are still legal to use in this country provided they are used as the law states. The Imbra is on the left and the Juby on the right.
  3. Couple of dogs there Tracey that would be glad of the new found permission as well Just need to get the boys to survey the paddock to find out the most productive option to nab all them tasty bunnies. Long net seems a nice idea I must say........but if the paddocks empty and shooting is not practicable then a few wires should soon thin them out. Failing that.......a couple of days ferreting will be the answer. You always seem to fall on your feet Tracey......lucky bugger........apples where there's orchards eh! Well done anyway.......Happy Hunting. Regards Rolfe
  4. Due to unforeseen circumstances I have a weekend camping pass for the Midland Game Fair....Normally £60.00 each ....... I am asking £40.00 for a quick sale..........PM me if you are interested......I am in the Northampton area but will dispatch by 1st class post on receipt of payment. Rolfe.
  5. Yes...........should be no problem at all........the flies eggs are only on the external fur so the meat will be untouched. Regards Rolfe
  6. So how was prison Lloydy......... Seriously mate..........nice to see you back Rolfe.
  7. Looks like she has been feeding Kits as well........
  8. Well thats a the best bit of plucking i have seen for a long while..........he's got more patience than me thats for sure. Not badly shot up either..........that'll taste delicious......yum yum.
  9. Flanker............yes that is spelt right .......Anywhere in the back row......No8 was my favourite.
  10. Last season I had to tackle some pretty large rabbit contracts on my own......as my usual band of helpers were otherwise engaged. It really made me appreciate my Beddie/Whippet/Greyhound Lurcher and the stirling work he does around the the long net and purse nets. Old Rolfey is getting on a bit now......and isn't quite so fast as he once was around the nets(my ex rugby playing mates will say i never was fast ).........but the dog gets there and holds the rabbits in an instant till I can stagger up to him out of breath. He and the ferrets have worked together that often they never bother each
  11. You could always use the rat bait i use Tracey...........it never fails to attract them.......
  12. Tracey..........if he's that good he can come and work for me when he leaves school Takes some doing......... getting rats in a cage WITH bait.........let alone without. Still........two less to breed eh! Rolfe
  13. Welcome Wendy........Enjoy your time on the THL with us. Rolfe.
  14. Just done a complete survey of a field I have been waiting to snare whilst out for a walk with the dogs. The sheep have been off for 3 weeks now.......and the rabbit runs are prolific and as straight as an arrow in most cases. I am just waiting for the right night to hit them hard........I have been holding back because of the wet weather.......and also because Mixy has hit us pretty hard here again for the second season running.......That said......only clean rabbits make well used runs like those pictured..........Watch this space. Rolfe
  15. yeah......hooped up a bit in that picture........it was about 30mm long with a yellow stripe along both flanks.
  16. Another one to identify please.........you can't see it too clearly but he has a yellow stripe down the side as well i just wondered what he will turn into.....moth or butterfly? Rolfe.
  17. Cheers for that Malt.......I returned him to the garden anyway........hope he survives. Rolfe
  18. Just found this little character in the garden.........just look at the "Face" on him........reminds me of a dog.....but can't think what sort The clever lads on here will know what he will turn into......is it a Hawk Moth of some kind?
  19. Roger......as you alluded too...........it all depends on the rabbit traffic and perceived numbers of same. I rarely put out less than 50........and anything up to 250-300 if the runs are numerous. On average i suppose 150 at a time more often than not. I like to leave mine out for 3 nights maximum(some prefer 2).........then move them....most rabbits will have been accounted for by then if you have done the job right. Any longer and Mr Fox or Badger will have found a new feeding area.....having been alerted to the area by snared rabbits. Often i will "rest" an area for several weeks before re
  20. Once the Mk 6 is set to the catch position (IE the trigger is engaged into the trap plate).....the safety catch should just be able to flip off.......i can't see how you are having a problem........got any pictures? Rolfe Sorry no pictures ,it seems the trap frame moves forwards causing the safety to jam tight when under tension, I thought this was a common problem? You are sure you have engaged the trigger into the plate.........and it's not just being held by the safety catch?

  22. Sell them......yes i do.......i also cook them and freeze the meat for the dogs........fill the freezer with enough rabbit meat to see me through the summer months.........and save them for ferret food. No rabbit no matter how big or small is ever wasted.
  23. If asked to do it.........I will work at the rabbits all year round BUT....most of my clients wait till the season starts because they don't want to have to pay me for 3 days vegetation clearance before I can ferret the buries. if its cage trapping or snaring though.......then thats a different matter as i carry that out all through the year.
  24. Well Guys and Gals......The rabbit season is about to get under way and I for one have been busy sorting and repairing nets, snares, cages etc. ready for another profitable season. The bookings for rabbit clearance are already piling up and as many are twice yearly contracts I am nearly fully booked already. It always seems funny to me that when I ferreted for nowt..........I could never get any permission.........but charge them a ridiculous fee.......and I turn work away. Anyway........just to remind any newbies out there to make sure you hang your nets up to dry after each ferreting trip
