  2. Well done to everyone who entered the competition.......The standard of the articles was very high and all who took the time and effort to take part are to be congratulated........Really well done to you all.....Some budding authors there i think. Good luck to you all and may the best man or women win. Kind Regards Rolfe.
  3. Are they urine pillars ........as these are usually the result of House Mice activity?......or are they a build up of smear marks caused by rats?.......Maybe a clearer picture would show us more detail Regards Rolfe. Edited to say: Is that a little mouse in the bottom picture........looking over the middle black mound.......can you see it
  4. I find them less likely to kink, they hold their shape better.......easier to re- tension (and hold the tension).......and longer lasting. Regards Rolfe.
  5. Six strand every time for me Roger.......22.5 inches long.

  7. Yeah......I know Holcot and the surrounding area well.........I was at the Steam Rally the other day........I live virtually bordering the Althorp Estate........ The golf club is one of my pest control contracts. I lamped and ferreted all over the Althrop estate in the 7os,me and the late jim chambers had some very good bags there,in Febuary 77 we ferreted 100+on two consecutive days at Harpole and Nobottle,it was alive with rabbits all around that area then, whats it like now? Still plenty of bunnies about.........I regularly take 2000+ Rabbits a year from the golf course alone and ha
  8. Well done Lass.........Did the pup drink those three glasses of beer to celebrate his victory......no wonder he looks bemused. It looks like you all had a fun day out and that is what it is all about..........the rosettes are a bonus. Rolfe
  9. Yeah......I know Holcot and the surrounding area well.........I was at the Steam Rally the other day........I live virtually bordering the Althorp Estate........ The golf club is one of my pest control contracts.
  10. Lamping also means on the look-out for women in my area..........always makes me smile when i read someone is off lamping. Rolfe
  11. Nothing to do with hunting whatsoever.........but I was out with the harvester waiting for some bunnies to bolt and was intrigued by the stonework in the wall I was standing next too. It forms part of the boundary wall to the Lord Spencers estate (Princess Di's Brother). I just love the different sized stone in the various courses all done with Lime Mortar and hundreds of years old.........but still in near perfect condition. Rolfe
  12. Just a couple of pictures of the dogs waiting for the action to start as the rabbits vacate the crop ahead of the harvester. So many young pheasant poults were in the crop though.........made the job of anticipating a bolt much more difficult......too many false alarms Rolfe
  13. Just found this magnificent specimin.........not sure if it is a "Parasol" type mushroom or not.......Daughter has my mushroom book so cant double check it yet
  14. Just spent a lazy couple of hours watching the combine working its way through a field of wheat.....such times are to be savoured I think....Time spent doing things you enjoy is never wasted Not a rabbit bolted for the dogs.......but hey...they had a good run and a play after the last cut from the combine. I will be out again today........when hopefully the rabbits will make an appearance. I'ts my fault really i suppose........i shouldn't have done such a good job of clearing the rabbits early in the season Rolfe
  15. God..........they look good enough to eat Tracey........never had them without apple as well but i bet they taste nice. Natures wild harvest is there for everyone to enjoy.........don't know why people don't use it more. I am still picking mushrooms.........and soon be time for the elderberries. You have your fingers in a lot of pies Tracey don't you. Regards Rolfe.x
  16. HG.........you go and enjoy yourself mate..........all us muppets will still be here when you return from your hols, well some may not be as i may well have deleted some of the annoying tits You will miss the kids for sure........but don't forget to enjoy yourself and to make time for YOU. Have fun and take some good pictures and don't go falling down no hills. And one other thing "Never test the depth of the water in the lake with both feet" Regards Rolfe
  17. Just buy a jar of mild curry, korma etc.......or such like from the supermarket and add it to the pan of diced rabbit that has been sealed by frying in a pan first.........leave to simmer for an hour...add chopped mushrooms to suit. Jobs Done. Rolfe.
  18. Have a good one Mate........enjoy it. Regards Rolfe.

  20. To sit as a valuer on the Antiques Roadshow and to tell some toffy-nosed twat that their painting is worth F***k all.
  21. John do you know the "Greenhill" (i think that is the name) method of removing a pigeon breast with just bare hands and no knife involved? I use it all the time and can remove a breast from a pigeon in less than thirty seconds and it makes light work of a bag load of pigeons. If the procedure is carried out correctly you are left with the pigeon breast in one hand and the rest of the bird in the other to chuck in the bin. Rolfe.
  22. Just returned from a steam rally where they have all sorts of old farm junk for sale and auction. I was looking for a "Spud Thistle" for Snareman.........But alas there was none to be found. What i did get though was.....Another lovely little small vermin gin trap.......in perfect condition, A Victor Conibear trap also in good nick, A hammer that would be useful for trapping (Not a true Trappers hammer though.....may be a flint knappers hammer) A fabulous old ratting and rabbiting book.....full of old recipies for mixing and making rat poisons all probably highly illegal now And last but not
  23. Put a Fenn trap in a tunnel at the base of a favourite tree........no need to bait it........they will investigate anything new. Rolfe.
