  1. Yes........that's the good side of pest control........not so nice treating a house full of fleas or cockroaches though . You can still do your pest control as a hobby..........but if you get the chance to go to uni........then you must take it. The pay will be better when your qualified thats for sure. Rolfe.
  2. The phone rang at 7.15 am......."Can you come and do a wasp nest for me.......it's in the garage and i can't get near me freezer". 1st job booked in. I just had time to check some rabbit cages on the golf course that i had placed in amongst the shrubs in the flower beds....no rabbits this time.......just a young blackbird that i released. Deadly catching places these, no bait required........the rabbits just use the gaps as run throughs.......so i place cages to intercept them. Mobile phone goes off.......It's the old guy in the village........can you come and shoot a squirrel for me. I sold h
  3. Yes deffo a badger skull........tell by the raised fin on the top.
  4. Did you hear the 'Ninety Nine' call yesterday during the match?! The Infamous 99 eh............Willie John Mcbride's Tour if i remember.......? What year was that Malt.
  5. Another Crash Helmet Wasp Nest.......this one had been left in the loft.
  6. Net it over...........had to do it with mine. It's about the only sure fire method.......well apart from one other.......but that's against the law Rolfe.
  7. I have used all types of pegs over the years........but always seem to go back to good old Hazel. Easy to work with in the green, drill a hole for the net cord, job done.........and simple to replace if needed.
  8. The wasp season has started here........did a couple last week and did three today......here's hoping we have a bumper year. Here's one i did earlier........hanging outside under the apex of a house roof, about the size of a grapefruit (which is what i would expect this early in the season). I always marvel at the wasp "Paper" which is just chewed wood from trees and fences........look at the miriad of colours from all the different stained fence panels it has been taking wood from. Truly wonderful constructions.
  9. Yes........Bill lives just a mile from me and i know him well, he does my insurance and most of the NPTA public Liability insurances. Nice bloke.....give him a call and he will advise you on the best policy for you. It is not cheap though....... Rolfe.
  10. Good bit of work there mate.........i am sure it will work just fine. i would worry about losing those pegs before i got to the trapping site though Simplicity is what i look for nowadays, and i agree with some of the others that three boards work ok for me..........although i do permanently restrict the entrances of mine to suit the target species. I have bigger ones for mink and squirrels to take Mk6 Fenns........and smaller tunnels for the Mk4's for rats, stoats etc.
  11. Terrific pictures (4th one down is a cracker)....As an interesting point the "Hedge Sparrow" is also known as a "Dunnock".......and a "Hedge Accentor". Is there another English garden bird with more names???.....cant think of one. Rolfe.
  12. Happy Birthday Lass...........Have a good one........Oh.......and by the way......enjoy playing with your Beaver ;) Rolfe.
  13. Sounds like they may have had a faulty batch come through the system then. Yes Killgerm are a first class suopplier so don't let this put you off because i have been using them for years without any problems
  14. Did the faulty traps have "Talpex" stamped on them......? I will be speaking to them a bit later and might be able to get to the bottom of it for you. I have a few thoughts on what might have happened.......but need to confirm it with Paul Hoyes first. Rolfe.

Thanks Sue.........We do try hard to please all of the people all of the time ....but sometimes it just aint possible because you can never reason with someone who won't see reason Rolfe.
  16. If there are any rabbits about.......then a mink would certainly be in a wood........but so would a feral ferret or polecat. Rolfe.
  17. Mink.....Feral Ferret........hard to judge exact size ?

    Too Hot

Yeah i agree with those sentiments.......too hot in the day to take them far.......my rough coated fella does suffer a bit in the heat........but his coat comes in handy on cold frosty ferreting days. Sooner have it hot rather than wet and cold anyday though.
  19. Does anyone know how to contact Phil Haynes at Poachers Pocket Lurchers? Does he have a website or anything? Thanks. PM sent
  20. I know it is of little consolation right now.........but you DID make the right decision. It is heart breaking to have to do it but i have been there a couple of times in the past.........and in never gets any easier. Things will look brighter in a day or too ........so don't be too hard on yourself. Rolfe.
  21. Yeah i did..........if you look real close you can see the teeth marks
  22. Just a couple of pictures to show how to intercept rabbits that run a fence line using cage traps.....although i have baited these with carrots there is little need too once they have had a few catches.......the scent alone will entice them in. Note how the cage under the bit of hedging is virtually invisible from just a few feet away.
  23. The tree surgeons are on site at the Golf Course.........and had just felled (in sections) an old dead ash tree to the side of the lakes dam. Unbeknown to them, a feral honey bee colony had taken up residence in the decaying trunk, but they pretty soon realised when the bees started swarming about There were some quite large slabs of honeycomb that fell from the rotten trunk.......but most was covered in decaying timber and sawdust........so wasn't a lot of use to anyone. I did manage to grab a little taster.......and it was delicious.....yum yum.......honey at it's best and freshest. Shame
