Plastics tend to shine a lot if they get wet........so flock are better. But best of all (and i have always done it) is to use the real thing.......! I always keep 8-12 of the best pigeons from a previous shoot to use as deeks. Better than anything i find, and i always snip off one of the legs of each of the frozen birds so i know which are the fresh ones after a shoot Rolfe.

They look similar to Hog Rings.......but mine look like staples in a long strip......which i fix using a special hog-ring stapler. The cage making ones i use are J clips........these are compressed using special pliers.......but i have not seen any like that before.

Beautiful Constructions.........!

Pinch what you like mate -
Although i have to destroy these nests as part of my job.......i always admire the work that has gone into their construction. This one clearly shows the wasps have been chewing stained fence panels and silver birch trees to make the wasp "paper". This one i removed from a hedge today.
-
Took this today in my ivy covered garden arch............Hedge Sparrows nest with three eggs.........the colours are something special........!

Yes.......One of Phil Haynes "Poachers Pocket" Breeding..........the best all round rabbit and net dog i have ever owned (and i have had lots of rabbit dogs over the years). Soft mouthed and lightning quick around the purse and long nets.

I am a full time pest controller i make my living removing unwanted pests be that rabbits, fleas, cockroaches, rats, mice, wasps etc. Unsavoury as some people may find it i am paid to do a job and i do it as quickly and humanely as i posibly can. I run a trap line all year round on a golf course contract and remove in excess of 2000 rabbits each year, Cage traps mostly.....this combined with night time shooting keeps the rabbits under control. Clients pay me to do a job.....and if that includes removing young rabbits then so be it........!

Yes........doing it for a living is different from doing it for sport.......i have to remove every rabbit i can....big, small, they all have to go. The ferrets killed a few little un's down the holes.......but they never stay on a kill and i had NO digging to do......the jills i keep just never stay on a kill .........and for that i am eternally grateful.

Had to go and clear the few resident bunnies from under a couple of trees in the grounds of a large country hall. The trees were right beside a recently installed lake.....that already had a large family of Canada geese set up home. The ground was pretty hard under the trees so i netted a few holes..........and wrapped the quickset around the rest. I slide the gromets down the poles on my system so the net stands barely 18 inches high.........this gives some added kill (bagging). Finished the day with 6 big uns.........and a couple of little uns.

Well it had to happen sooner or later........Old Rolfey has succumed to popular demand and dressed up as a Victorian Poacher for a sequence in a DVD production about rural Norfolk's history. I have been asked to dress up in a pilots uniform in the past........ but that's another story. So.......I had to mooch through some woods, take a few shots with the folding .410 poachers gun, and generally look a scruffy itinerent type character........bit like Bill Sykes. I had to meet a Victorian lady in the woods (stop it) and hand over a rabbit and pheasant for her to secrete under some sacking in a

Apparently he asked another Mod to delete his account.......and he did so.....That's as much as i know.

Had a nice little job this morning.......really simple to do. Place a ladder up to fascia board level, remove the end board, clean out an old starlings nest, quick blast of Ficam D in the void to kill off any creepy-crawlies, replace the stop-end and fit a piece of wire netting under the tile to stop the birds getting back in.........Job Done..! I was there and back in less than an hour and charged the customer fifty quid.......she was well pleased, especially when she told me she had been quoted.........WAIT FOR IT............£700.00.........YES YOU READ THAT RIGHT.....£700.00 for the sam

No.......most of the wasp "paper" was from the surrounding silver birch trees.........you could smell the fresh bark on the nest........incredible constructions. Of course all the kids got their own piece of wasp paper to keep as a memento.
-
Bit bigger than a good sized grapefruit.........they were not amused that i was about to remove their dwelling
-
Had a mum panicking on the phone...........kids found this very active wasp nest in the playhouse. Pretty aren't they?
-
Have only seen the ferrets lass..........so that was what i was refering too :whistling:

It is one of the most painful injuries you can have in my opinion. I have had a lot of rib injuries during my rugby playing days, and like has been said......they take an age to heal and (don't laugh, sneeze, cough or even fart),,,,,otherwise you will be in agony. Good news is (provided you have been checked out) that it does eventually get better albeit very slowly.
-
Is that what is also called a Slow Worm.........don't get to see many my way unfortunately.
-
Nice Handful ........and i don't mind nips :whistling: .........it shows they have some go in them they should turn out some useful workers. Rolfe
-
Well done to the boys Tracey..........a lot of hard work has gone into that success story........lets hope they reap the benefit of all that hard work come shoot day. Provided they can shoot straight that is :whistling: Rolfe.
-
I have had that happen a few times when a badger has been the culprit.........pulling at the snared rabbit.
-
Had another busy morning........guy in the village had another squirrel in the "Elgeeco"....cost him 15 quid so far this week for me to shoot em Had a panic call about a swarm of bees on the golf course........found the buggers had taken up residence in an old ash tree......so they are safe there. Had a mole in a womens garden.......nowt special there.......until you walk to the bottom of her garden......She has a river (and fishing rights) running past the end of her lawn. Heaven.

All in a Mornings Work for a Pester
Rolfe replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Thanks mate........I will start taking the camera more often on jobs.........i take it for granted the things i have to do in a days work.........but it can be interesting for others to see what goes on. Wait till later in the season when the wasp nests are HUGE then i'll get some nice pictures for you. -
All in a Mornings Work for a Pester

Trust me pal if you got the potential and interest in engineering then go to uni! It will be the best years of your life! Ive literally just finished my degree, graduate next month, and i dont want to stop beeing a student, lol. Once you've got a degree behind you think of it as a solid foundation for your future, even if you dont want to follow it up as an engineer, its a good qualification. You can then play around more seriously with the idea of becoming a pester and if it fails you will have a bloody good qualification to fall back on. You know it makes sense, lol.
