  3. Nice dogs pall how they bread Bedlington/whippet/greyhound..........and three quarter collie/greyhound.
  4. did you account for any? Nope not a one............never saw a rabbit in this field..........did shoot a few the other day though when out with the harvester.
  5. Few pictures of the dogs as we stood watching the combine going round and waiting for a few bunnies to bolt.
  6. LDR..........your looking at the other side of the county to where i live........but your sure lucky walking into 5000 acres of permission.......Good Luck with your move anyway.
  7. Stood for a couple of hours this afternoon with the shotgun as they were harvesting and shot 9 rabbits as they bolted for freedom. They were all in prime condition and i never saw one with mixy which makes a change around here. Also to top of a great day.........i managed to see the Vulcan bomber as it soared majestically overhead, only trouble was, by the time i had put the gun down and got the camera out it had nearly gone
  8. I had a couple of hours out in the sunshine (that makes a change) yesterday, hoping the dogs might get a few easy runs on some bolting bunnies. Sadly there was not a rabbit in sight.......but it was so nice just to be out and about in the sunshine. It was a bit warm for the dogs, but they enjoyed it despite the fact they had nothing to chase. In one of the pictures you can clearly see a well defined fox run that cut through the wheat........and into one of the "Tramlines" to assist him crossing the field.
  9. What a grand gentleman he was.........we shall never see the likes of his generation again but he will always be remembered as "The Last Tommy"...........God Bless Harry........you did us proud. Rolfe.
  10. Glad i'm not the only one then............yes you are dead right........like Christmas day and a Sunday combined and not a sound from anywhere............one of natures many mysteries i suppose........but it is amazing when you experience it.
  11. It's a mystery for sure.......but like you say it is a fantastic experience.......! The picture is one i took of 100's of my mate holding my two lurchers for a book cover.........bit fuzzy........but captures the night-time atmosphere perfectly..........glad you liked it.......Thanks.
  12. Just finished reading a piece in a book called "The Notorious Poacher" By G Bedson. In it he describes certain nights of the year when nature calls a halt to all activity and everything in the countryside goes to sleep. The farmyard dog does not bark, the night birds are silent, even the wild ducks and waterfowl remain still. The silence of the countryside is uncanny. Long nets can be dropped in what may seem perfect conditions, yet still remain empty. These nights do not happen very often.......but twice.........many years ago, and many years apart, I have experienced such nights. I thoug
  13. He was deleted because despite repeated warnings about using the site ONLY to sell counterfeit copy DVD's he continued to do so. Anyone else doing the same will be removed just as quickly. Rolfe.
  14. I was out and about mooching as i am prone to do ..........when i came across a mass of Blackberries. I have ear-marked the location for about a weeks time when there should be enough ready to include in a Blackberry and Apple crumble. I did think they were a bit early to be honest........but the ones I tested were delicious.
  15. Usually get a few bolt at the end of each cut.............anywhere between 40 and 70 yards as a rule.......but plenty of time for the dogs to pick them up
  16. Just started the harvest here..........but the numbers seem a bit down on last year......that said Mixy has hit us hard here but we shall still get a good bit of sport between now and September.
  17. just thought, dont suppose its the same area? No............these were near Pitsford.
  18. Harvest time is upon us once again so it's time to seek the shelter of some shady tree and watch the dogs work. Mine have been doing it so many years now........they have it off to an art form. Always be careful with with machinery about as it is all to easy to in the heat of the chase for accidents to happen. My dogs are ok in as much they will stand ready to snap up any bolters that make a bid for freedom without the need for a restraint of any kind.....that said.....i keep them under close control when the harvester is approaching. Fantastic sport though watching the dogs working out in the
  19. Do the rabbits squeeze under the bottom rail.......or jump through ABOVE the bottom rail.......you need to know as the set will be completely different.
  20. you don't say what type of "Live Catch" trap you are using........but if it is a cage then it is simple to restrict the entrance with some wire mesh to allow only the target species to enter.
  21. I was called in to survey a large rabbit clearance job for this coming winter...........And i spied these critters on the farm i was looking at...........! The very nice lady said they were Alpaca's..........Never thought i would see anything like that in deepest darkest Northamptonshire Well there's a first time for everything i suppose.
  22. .22 BRNO...........i would be lost without it actually Mal.........simply the best rabbiting tool for taking out the bunnies IMO.
  23. Many about over that way Rolfe? Yeah.........quite a lot of this years young-uns about..........but mixy is an on going problem here and curtails my snaring activities somewhat. So........the rimmy sorts out the good and the bad.
  24. Just had a drive round one of my contracts with the Rimmy to see what was about and ended up with 30+ healthy bunnies. There were a few with mixy about........but the majority were prime young rabbits just right for converting into rabbit curry later. Just a few of the rabbits in the picture.........but they were in fantastic condition.
