Great pictures..........go on just try ONE strawberry -
If you move the spring to the second square in on the door (instead of the first) this really keeps the door shut tight and i have not had one escape since modifying them like that. Yes........they can make a mess of a fence panel.......if you don't get there quick enough to dispatch them.......and i agree that a metal back plate would solve that problem. As for the stick across the door........the old fella also wraps the whole lot up in a sheet till i get there.........and the squirrel sits still and quiet in the dark.........but he has plenty of sticks anyway

As has been stated previously.......I have (and still do) write articles occasionally for the CMW on various aspects of pest control, be that snaring, trapping, long-netting, ferreting etc. There is a lot to write about BUT there are only so many ways you can explain how to set a snare, spring trap or cage trap before it becomes stale and repetitive. I now try and pitch my articles to any new developments within the pest control world, like the breakaway snare for example, or any new cage or spring trap developments that may come along. I always write from experience......(not hearsay) and tel

Just been called out to a client of mine to whom i sold an "Elgeeco" squirrel trap and bird feeder too last season. He calls me in every time he has a catch, for me to dispatch it (for a fiver a time of course ) He has become quite adept at catching greys in his garden........and we have had over 20 to date that he has caught. This old fella is in his early 90's he tells me........so maybe he could be the oldest active squirrel catcher He always pushes a stick through the cage to prevent the squirrel pushing the door up........something i told him to do until i could get there and dispatch

Have a good one mate........... :drink: Enjoy.

Yes........I thought that too.........but i'm no moth expert, someone will put us right I'm sure

I picked up 6 genuine talpex along with some duffus and scissor traps, and have a simular problem to you chalkwarren, too many years on the building sites, using hammer drills has left me with minor white finger (bloody shakes) looks like I need a drink somedays, but I also found them quite hard to set, my tip for setting them, simply get a square of plywood, say 8"x8" lay the trap on this, then use both palms to push the trap open and set it, works for me Yes.......there is a knack to setting them safely and speedily.......something you have to do if you are setting any number where ti

Looks like a great day out Tracey........good on the young un..........bet she'll remember that shot. Yes it would be a pain in the arse having to muzzle load each shot nowadays thats for sure. Great to see the youngsters getting involved in countrysports at early age...... Rolfe.

Just a little teaser for you mole trappers that use the Talpex type traps........spot the fake! There are so many cheap imports nowadays that it is easy to lose track of the genuine article......! These fakes are flooding the market at the moment........be they mole traps or Fenns......and they just simply are not as robust as the genuine article. Yes they will still do the job.......but are are so inferior to the real thing that they won't last 5 minutes under normal working conditions. So.......(in my opinion) it is always better to go for the genuine article rather than a less expensive i

Same as that.......I shoot many hundreds of pigeons every season.........but this fella.... nesting in a flowering cherry tree at the bottom of the garden.......well........I'd sooner shoot it with the camera Rolfe.

Here is a couple of pics from the inside........as has been said they are very good quality and it is quite a large book. left hand side is for date, companions etc. Right hand side has a full page for remarks. Regards. Rolfe.

I have always used K-Otherine (1% Deltamethrin) formally called Crackdown for most of my crawling insect jobs, this combined with Empire 20 (20% chlorpyrifos) as a crack and crevice treatment (When it was still available) cleared up most infestations pretty quickly. I always mixed just enough insecticide to complete the job and then cleaned the application equipment afterwards. If i use Ficam for crawling insects i use it in powder form only. I get through tubs of the stuff though in a good wasp season.........Here's hoping we have a good one this year. Rolfe.

Thinking that myself No, not really as it is in the lawn of the clubhouse and on the practice putting green. The hole the other side of the fence is someone elses property....... So it'll be a quick run through with the ferret then destroy the tunnel system i'm afraid. Rolfe.

Happy Birthday Mate...........have a good un.........and keep on top of Minky :drink: Rolfe.

Maybe the rabbit has.........because he will be waving it in surrender when i run the ferret through tomorrow before destroying and filling the tunnel sytem leading to the bolt hole and re-turfing it.

I am working a few days on a rabbit proof netting contract and have been netting down the steep bank behind an ancient dam. I was asked to inspect some existing netting to repair anywhere that had been breached by the persistent rabbits. The netting was all intact.........but there was still a load of rabbit activity on the lawn to the golf club house. It was then i spotted the bolt-hole a full 8-10 feet form the fence line in the manicured lawn...........with a hole a full 6 feet from the fence on the other side, these little feckers were digging the channel tunnel me thinks It just goes t

They don't last long if I spot the post first :whistling:

Can you keep snaring the same runs?
Rolfe replied to Fat-Ferret's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I always leave my wires down for 3 nights in a particularly heavy rabbit infestation.........then rest the ground for a week or so before setting again. If you leave them down too long you run the risk the rabbits becoming snare shy and also there is more chance of Mr Fox finding a new feeding source. Rolfe. -
Been Whittling All Day..........!
Rolfe replied to Rolfe's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Nah.....there for a lot I knitted last season........some with 1inch mesh for the small rabbits, and to replace some old worn out ones.......your pegs are fine -
I would like one of those, but I think they are way too expensive. Do you know how much that was? No idea mate..........it was in a customers garden on a mole job.......and the duck was sitting on 15 eggs.

Here's a nice des res.........

Try bending the trigger wires underneath outwards a bit.......this should then eliminate the catches too far back along the moles body and take the mole around the chest cavity.

I Have many happy memories of the "Old Arms Park" both the National stadium and the ground adjacent to it. We had many a session in the old North Enclosure........watching England play Wales. It must have been the late 70's or early 's the last time i was there.........i can remember i was still playing at the time and was recovering from a broken leg. I have memories of a lovely little tale from those days.....Myself and a playing colleague were standing on the terraced steps watching a particularly bruising encounter between the Welsh and English and we were the only Englishmen is a sea
