  1. You had a bit of bad luck there with two injuries back to back.........but they will both make a full recovery quite quickly. Injuries to running dogs........especially whippets, usually look far worse than they actually are. I have had real nasty cuts to my whippets in the past........real big wide open cuts..........that have healed up to be hardly noticable.....so yours will be barely visible in a week or two. I also had a deerhound/ greyhound cross some years back that had to have a few inches of his tail.......and that too healed well..........but tails for some reason do take a bit of t
  2. Some people have all the luck God i wish they would come to my door and ask me the same questions.......i would have let them in as well. BUT.....they wouldn't have been able to leave until i had told them in no uncertain terms what i think of them and their animal welfare policies.........what a shower of sh*t. They wouldn't want to come back in a hurry i can assure you. Your dad obviously has a bunny hugger as a neighbour Rolfe.
  3. Lovely pictures and a lovely looking pup.........hope he does well for you.........he certainly looks the part. Rolfe.
  4. Plenty of this growing about this year.......Garlic mustard (Alliaria Petiolata)......if you have never tried the fresh young leaves thinly sliced and in a sandwich with a bit of beef........you are missing a treat. Mildly garlic and peppery in taste they also make a nice salad dressing when chopped finely and with olive oil added. Try mixing some in amongst the salad bowl with the lettuce. Appears from about April to June........but May is about the best time to harvest the fresh young leaves.
  5. Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean , two prawns were swimming around in the sea, one called Justin and the other called Christian. The prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that inhabited the area. Finally one day Justin said to Christian, "I'm fed up with being a prawn; I wish I was a shark, and then I wouldn't have any worries about being eaten." A large mysterious cod appeared and said, "Your wish is granted." Lo and behold, Justin turned into a shark. Horrified, Christian immediately swam away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate. Tim

  7. Yes looks like St Marks...........so called because the adults usually emerge on St Marks day..April 25th. Sometimes seen in large swarms over grassland.
  8. Looking at some other posts it would appear (like here) that this horrible disease is prevalent nearly all year round now. it is interesting to find out that it seems countrywide.......and not just isolated pockets of infection. I wonder if some new, stronger, and more virulent form of the disease has arrived. It used to appear here around August time.......but this year there has hardly been a month when i haven't seen an infected rabbit somewhere.....doesn't bode well for a prolific rabbiting season me thinks. Thank you for the interesting replies. Rolfe
  9. Looks like a badger to me.......? But the ridge (fin) to the top of the skull doesn't look high enough.....would be interesting to positively ID it............but i will still go with badger.

  12. Well it never rains till it pours does it. Just had a walk in the meadow looking for some fresh rabbit runs to put some wires down on...........when the lurcher put up and caught a pretty speedy rabbit........i was well impressed until he brought it back to me. it was in the early stages of Myxomatosis. Shit........been waiting ages for the stock to be taken off this meadow so i could snare it. Oh well...........Happy Days

  15. Why would you want to climb over this stile? In the middle of nowhere.......easier to walk past it on either side Yes.........There used to be a wire netting fence to each side of it which has long since been removed.......just leaving the old stile in place.......wonderful Rolfe.

  19. Well ya see, it's like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In t
