  1. I have the litter sister to this dog in my kennels, isn't as strong as the dog in the pics, same colour though...like Downsouth said out of a good bitch...
  2. I don't really rate Chapman's books, 'Work them hard...' by Harcombe is the best book you'll read on working terriers IMO, 'Dig Deep...' by Darcy is also a quality book as are the two little terrier volumes he has. Avoid Frain books...SHITE.
  3. Yes it is mate...Will be reviewed shortly in the countrymans...Nearly 200 pages and 48,000 words very comprehensive covering 14 terriermen in the first volume, with another two volumes planned...All top digging men.Plenty of quality pictures. I got the letter through the post today about the new book, looking forward to it as it looks and sounds good, also gives Darcy some competition... , the terriermen mentioned sound reputable except that D.C...king messer... :tongue2:
  4. Is it a book on terriermen Pick and Shovel?? Well said Busterdog, a lot of good lads are pulled to bits on here and not on here to defend themselves...
  5. MESSER...you've only hijacked the post because you're wanting one of the pups... , and them Hurworth foxes?? I didn't think they had a hunt with the amount of charlies that reside there.. :whistling: .
  6. Yeah I know mate, but the difference between your kennels and a lot of other chocolate dogs is that yours are worked hard season after season and produce workers which is a lot harder to breed in than the choccy colour is...
  7. I wondered why the you had so many choccy's in your kennels Buster, you bloody show pony...
  8. IMO the ideal situation is to get in the right circles with the right lads and once you can be trusted and a spare pup comes along you might get offered it free of charge, but it's difficult to get into them circles. I paid £150 for each of my first two terriers, both from different breeding, but both really well bred which I thought was a decent price for well bred pups, I paid £200 for my third terrier which was ten month old when I got it and also very well bred so was a decent price I thought. The first dog died to ground in his third season, the second dog entered easily and hasn't put a
  9. Interesting stuff Duckwing, nice to hear stories from years past, also living near the areas you mention...seems the north east has been a hotbed for digging dogs in the past...
  10. It's the best book you'll read on terriers/digging IMO, really top quality...
  11. I've never seen double peg nets before, I can't see how they would purse as efficiently as a single peg one?? I get my nets made 8 foot long in a variety of colours including pink off a strange welsh fella...
  12. I have the Lowa extreme hunters and they've impressed me when digging and just general mooching, my mate has the Meindl's and can't fault them so I suppose either boot would be a good buy...
  13. I agree with Moo, digging topics are scarce between October-February on this forum, as soon as the Spring comes they start to appear, it's the same where I live...alot of lads go missing during the winter but as soon as the warmer weather comes they're 'flat out'...i like to call them 'Fine Weather Hunters'...
  14. A cracking post there Spiderpig, that's the type of post that makes this forum worthwhile...
  15. Heard about the bitch going , hope you find her mate...
  16. TIDY MATE, LIKE THE LOOK OF HIM, WAT AGE IS .. ALL THE BEST MATE TDJNR 16/17 month, only a first season pup mate
  17. My 'Gouldy' based pup, similar stamp to that 'Kimbo'...
  18. Not trying to put you or your dogs down Dev, but that works out at roughly 10 digs per dog all season which isn't a lot in fairness, wouldn't you rather have 2 dogs with 20 odd digs a piece? 3 of them only started this season, one pup had 3 digs towards the end of season, 2 other pups had 7 digs each, my bitch had 12 digs as she missed the first part of the season due to pups.and my dog had 19 digs. dogs are easily lost rabbit hunter as im sure you know,if i had only 2 with 20 odd digs each then i would now be down to a single terrier as i lost my dog after his last dig. it suits me much

  20. I prefer to couple terriers, but I've found some terriers will sulk and pull back if they're coupled with a stronger dog, it is ideal so you've got the other hand free to carry digging tackle etc.
  21. My mate has one, they're solidly built but IMO the spade head is too big and clumsy...if that was adjusted and made smaller they would be handy bits of kit...
  22. I've bolted a couple from drains where you could hear the fox running up the tube in water before hitting the net...also had a young pup out last week, after checking earths all morning we came to a kicked out one holer in a dyke with very fresh signs so showed the dog and he went beserk to get in on the lead, however the entrance was half filled with water and looking in with the torch it went like this for about 3 foot before the tube rose up and was dry, we collared up the pup and let him off and he just didn't have the experience to put two and two together and go through the water, so we
  23. Looks a nice dog there Drifter, and what a shame to lose him like that, I'm just waiting for Busterdog to breed me one like that...
