  1. Still no sign of the bitch, cheers for the positive replies. Fireman you are not on this f*****g planet mate, this earth is huge , it will be 20ft plus everywhere I'd say, the only way we could have the slightest incling of where to start digging is by putting another dog with a collar on and hoping that the dog goes to the bitch, which with the amount of other occupants I'd imagine are in the earth is a big ask. Plus with the Police, farmer etc etc all knowing what is going on, entering another dog would be seen as willingly interfering with a sett. End of.
  2. Firstly because it's a registered earth, secondly because it's within a stones throw of the farm that owns the land and thirdly because it's absolutely massive, got 40+ holes that are all well used on a steep bank that is about 150 yards from bottom to top. Beleive me mate we're not shy of digging holes, we'd have dug it at the drop of a hat if we had any idea of where about's in the earth she was, the police turned up twice due to the farmer ringing them and wanting the lads off the land. Back to the post, the bitch is still missing.
  3. My mate lost his patterdale bitch on Thursday afternoon while out exercising her. He found her about 4 or 5 fields away baying in a massive earth, but with digging it being out of the question and her having no locator collar on there was nothing he could could do, he left late that night and returned early the next morning but hasn't heard anything since. Checked with all the local farms aswell as dog wardens etc. and put posters up. The bitch is about 13/14" and stocky built, black smooth coated with a bronze cast, she has a white blaze on her chest. She will probably have fresh wounds with

  5. I've had no problem whatsoever with the new collar, the only thing I'd say is a bit annoying is trying to turn it off...

  8. Block headed that dog.! I was just wondering what the other half of his make up was cos he looks like he's built for the job Father: Shaver (full wheeler dog) Dam:Meg (Downsouth's old bitch)
  9. Had many a day out on my own due to unreliable people...it's just the way it is...some are keener than others...
  10. ...only you could think of that lmao.
  11. Glad to hear the bitch OK, had a dog die to ground two seasons ago the same type of thing, mouth full of fur and wedged in tight, I'd imagine both contributed to the dog dying.
  12. Farmer will be happy with you lads today, proper weather for it...

  15. Harry Potter is a good read too, but it doesn't tell you much about terriers!. I've never been big into reading terrier books, but I have read some of 'work them hard treat them like heroes' and it was very good. New Nick Stevens book isn't as good as has been stated, according to a friend who has read it cover to cover... You won't go wrong with a Harcomb book. FTB I'd have to disagree with you on the new Stevens book, its a cracking read and a good insight into the mans line of terriers, it's definitly up there with Harcombe's book 'Work Them Hard...' IMO...
  16. Good do, out myself with a PROPER messer off here tommorow hopefully doing some pest control...
  17. Cracking book, probably the best I've read in regards to commonsense where digging dogs are concerned. Ordered mine, Wed afternoon, arrived Thurs morning.
  18. I don't think J Darcy had anything to do with the book, just published it. Ricky B is who has wrote articles and provided the photos etc., it's not my thing like has been said but was interesting all the same and will go nicely in the collection...
  19. Turning into a good post this, I agree with you in saying that a bayer that gets stuck in when he's getting pushed is the type to aim/breed for, I used to be of the opinion when I first started that rock hard (stupid) dogs that are proper scarred up are the bees knees. But having seen with my owns eyes and dug plenty of game since I've realised that the hard dogs are usually a hindrance more than anything else, they can make a dig more difficult than it could have been with a steadier dog, then there's the kenneling weeks/months after when they are in no fit state to work and the worry of the
  20. about 11 1/2 months now.....its the brother to the bitch you was looking after Thought it was mate, I'm no know it all experienced terrier man, but I'd say hold him back a bit even though he's started well...
